And right there, that strikes me as what could be part of the problem. The social justice crowd is inherently a group that run on and is fueled by control and reshaping of society to shape their particular vision of reality.
Consider, for example, that the BLM and Antifa movements have "Defund the police" as one of their major talking points. But that the larger black community, the people they claim to support, by contrast actually want as much or more police to keep them safer. The people who claiming to be the 'sensitive' ones are acting in direct contrast to the people they claim to represent.
I said that I "have friends who work in social justice." I could have said "I have Black friends who are out protesting police brutality, getting maced and shot with non-lethal rounds in the process, that posted some words and phrases they'd really like to see go away because it reminds them of generations of trauma." But that seemed both on the nose and wordy.
I live in Minneapolis. My friends have some pretty damn good reasons to be upset. And no, they do not want more cops.
I don’t think anyone is going to go back and edit out any instance of “##### Galore” from the movie and I think that’s a little overkill. Similarly, you shouldn’t have to go back and edit every instance of Mafia in this entire forum (if that’s the route everyone elects to go).
I’m all for making adjustments going forward in order to make people more comfortable, though!
The name isn't really an issue since English is not our first language, and he is at that wonderful age where he understands that sex is a thing people do but hasn't quite understood why yet. It's the whole "man forcing himself on woman with violins playing in the background" bit I am uncomfortable with.

Ah, understood. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen Goldfinger, so I don’t really recall what you’re referring to, but James Bond has always seemed very pushy towards women. I seem to remember the Roger Moore Bond being this was.

That's why I linked to the scene above. And yeah, misogyny is unfortunately a core aspect of James Bond - in recent years it has at least been downplayed and acknowledged as problematic, but in Goldfinger he basically rapes his way to victory which was supposed to be a good thing.
I'm all for getting rid of the word. In a lot of games, I tend to reference the removal in some unique way, depending on the game theme. In the last mash-up, players were deconstructed. I did use the term in some of the roles this game, so I need to discipline myself more.
Now that I think about it, I tend to use the phrasing "With X players remaining, Y votes are needed for a majority." I think the term only really ever shows up in my roles. But I do think I waffle between using it to vote when I'm playing and sometimes just saying the word "Vote."
I am also fine with retiring the term "Mafia." It could be just as simple as replacing the term with the faction name. For example, I could have referenced them in the last mash-up as "Relic Hunters" or "The Creators." Something along those lines.
I agree but I feel it’s what you tried to do with me regarding the use of the word “Mafia”.
I don’t mind removing “lynch” - my original comment didn’t even say keep it - but I do think something like “remove” or just “vote” is the way to go versus a form of execution.

Just watched the scene. Very much a rape situation and is a bit uncomfortable to watch. I am glad that in recent years they have tidied up the film character a bit to not be the pushy and apparently rapey character he once was.
Anyways, Vote to Eliminate makes sense to me.
Using Removed may not be the best because I know that some mods like to use characters/roles in other games of theirs and they have used Removed from the game! as a way to keep that role alive rather than killing the character.
Glad this is being discussed. I'm in favor of that. It's always uncomfortable when it's used to eliminate someone playing a POC character, too.

It would probably be trivial to rename the forum the Werewolf game forum. Not sure I want to go through all the old chit-chat threads and rename them all to "Werewolf chit-chat", but on the other hand they aren't getting bumped anymore so it probably doesn't matter.
Yeah, I would not suggest going back and trying to rename all the old threads. I mean, most of the game threads are titled "mafia" so trying to change those would be quite an undertaking. And people refer to it as mafia all over the place.
I also wouldn't expect you to try and go back through every thread and do a find and replace on "lynch," either. That would be silly.
