When I heard that Edgar Wright dropped from AntMan over "creative differences"......I pretty much wrote that one off. I love LOVE Scott Pilgrim and Hot Fuzz (and the others). Still haven't seen The World's End but it's on my "as soon as it's 10.00 BluRay at Target, I'm buying it" list. That or Netflix.
I think last time I was in Target they had his "trilogy" (Dead, Fuzz, and End) in a set for around 20ish bucks?
Well I just got back from Transformers: AoE and if I didn't know better I'd swear Kevin Smith had a hand in writing this film. REALLY, lots of swearing, snarky comments about of other films, and a pretty good jab about M.Bay's style of film making. Even the end was a sly nod to another director who get's beaten up in the press

Zack Snyder
, the stand out IMO was TJ Miller because you could tell the guy improvised all of his scenes. It was also great to see a dark side to Optimus Prime LOVED it when

Prime finds out Ratchet dies and his reaction is "Autobots don't kill humans but, THE GUY WHO DID THIS IS DEAD".
. Their is also some retconning as the film tries to pretend Revenge of the Fallen never happened which I was completely happy about seeing as Transformers RotF is a turd sandwich wrapped in a used douche.
I just watched Pacific Rim in 3d. I'm at a loss for the praise that is heaped on this movie. With the exception of Ron Perlman and Idris Elba this movie was a total waste of time.
The fight poses the pilots do is cringe inducing, and all the fight scenes are so dark.
I can't fathom how people can bash Transformers and then say this movie is amazing. The 2nd and 3rd Transformers movies are godawful but not any worse than this.
I have a soft spot for Del Toro because of Hellboy and his love of Lovecraft but come on, this doesn't need a sequel.

Wait... did you watch it wrong? Because this movie is, for me, the Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Drift of Giant Robot movies. And YES, it needs sequels. Like 8 of them.
I have no idea about the 3D though... I've just never bothered with it except for Gravity.

Every genre should have its own Tokyo Drift. I'm still waiting for one to fill the Steampunk Schoolgirl Vision Quest slot (damn you, Sucker Punch - we only had one shot at this!).

Could someone explain this to me? I've seen Tokyo Drift, but I'm not understanding the reference. Is it to imply that every genre needs a crazy, off the wall, silly movie like Tokyo Drift?

It's just that Tokyo Drift is Karate Kid is Clash of the Titans is Hackers is... every basic hero arc movie.
And Pacific Rim used the same arc to showcase its magical giant robot fighting to satiate my need for a live-action Evangelion.
Also, I love Tokyo Drift from start to finish. It's absolutely charming and terrible and beautiful and perfect.

Also Pacific Rim has a great message (beating giant monsters with the power of EMPATHY, suckas!) and great visual queues. No, seriously, it really does.

Yeah, I thought the Transformers movies were not bad (really, each is just a 2-part G1 episode buried under 90 minutes of crap, so meh, it is what it is)... but, I really did not like the implication...
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
That Optimus Prime is a kill-all-humans bitter burned out hulk of a Prime.
That really bothers me, which is why I have not, for a change, leapt at the chance to see the movie. Even though it does have Grimlock and the rest.

Not only is that pretty funny, but the author noticed almost all the same things I found wrong with the movie.

I feel like that was my biggest problem with the movie. How can I cheer for heroes when there are no heroes in the movie?
