The Falcons landed their dropships on a large plain south of an enemy base. The base, according to the scouts, was a rear-echelon repair and resupply base manned by second-line troops with a limited amount of front-line support and two large gun turrets. Much of the equipment was observed to be older model units and some hastily converted IndustrialMechs. Forgoing traditional Clan doctrine, the Falcons deployed one Star of 2 Heavy and 3 Medium Mechs to take the base, with an infantry and vehicle force following once the base was secure.
The Falcon Star approached the base from the south and caught two light patrol Mechs off guard. The Mechs fell easily to the Falcon force and no alarm was raised. The Falcon warriors made it to just inside the base's inner perimter before being detected. The brave Falcon MechWarriors proceeded to pick their targets and lay waste to the base. Once inside the base, the Falcons faced strong resistance from all manner of enemy units. The enemy was not shy about charging and ramming and generally used swarm tactics to try and use their numbers to their advantage. The battle was fierce and bloody, but in the end, the Falcon prevailed.
At the end of the battle, the Falcons held the base with the two surviving Mechs from the Star, a Loki and a Gyrfalcon. These same Mechs survived the RD campaign and were given the honor of leading the assault against the new enemy, HK/DF. This trust in these warriors was not misplaced as they accomplished the primary goal. The Goshawk fell and the pilot killed, while the warriors piloting the Mad Cat IV and Raptor II (which was also a RD campaign vet) ejected to safety and were recovered by the Elementals leading the CJF forces into the base. The enemy swarm tactic proved effective, with the Raptor and Mad Cat being pecked to death by small hits and heat troubles while the Goshawk fell to a blistering barrage from a DF Mars tank.
The victory was not total for the Falcons, however, as they failed to stop the HK Command vehicle from escaping the field with a pair of escort infantry. This secondary objective would have yielded valuable information and extra resources, but alas, it fled before the warriors could take it. VTOL patrols have tracked it to a nearby bivouc and an attack is already being prepared and bid.
The Raptor got 7 kills (356 pts) before it fell, the Loki 16 (856 pts) and the Gyrfalcon 17 (846 pts). The total DF/HK force massed 2058 points vs 1238 of CJF forces.
Battle 2 - Capture the HQ vehicle and destroy the defenders.
(ooc - this was a very fun battle to play and I almost got worried that the Falcons might not take out the rear turret before the turret picked them apart, but the Gyrfalcon was equal to the task, being able to stay outside the range of the weapon while plugging it with withering fire for a couple turns, venting, and then firing again. The Loki helped where it could, but it had already taken some damage and lost its pulse SE. The Goshawk landed several MDFAs, but two shots from a Mars tank and a charge by a DF Mech put it out. The Mad Cat and Raptor lingered for a long time but never could free themselves from enemy basing and heat problems doomed them both as they got pounded when they shut down from failed rolls. The Gyrfalcon also landed several MDFAs (MDFA FP in play) and the Mad Cat tied up several opposing units so the Gyr could maneuver for shots or DFAs. Cannot wait for the next battle!)
Indeed i am... : ) Thanks! by the way, do you know where i can get good info about the Clan? (CJF) I really wanna try learnin more stuff about the Falcons, terminologies, etc. Thanks! :D
go to the classic battletech website. They have some really good info there and their links are pretty good too. Whenever I have a question, I usually go there to search for the answers. The WK site, under Linknet, also has some interesting information that is updated to the WK timeframe on CJF (Touring the Stars articles I think?). Even the various CBT related wikipedias are not too bad for general information.

This battle saw myself leading two stars into battle against a heavily defended HK outpost in an attempt to capture the HQ vehicle we had tracked from the first battle. Not wanting to fail a second time, I lead the forces personally. Recon patrols determined that the HK camp was located inside a canyon with high walls surrounding it and only one way in or out. It was the perfect place for our assault and also a perfect place for an ambush.
My Vulture IV lead the way along with a Marauder IIc, an Eyrie, Vixen, and Raven. The second star consisted of CBA, Elementals, an R10, Manteuffel tank, and Hadur arty. The HK/DF forces deployed quickly, sending VTOLs and infantry swarming out of the canyon. I detected their tactic quickly as they rushed numerous Light Mechs, several fast vehicles, and more infantry out of the pass in an attempt to swarm us. The Eyrie fell quickly to the charge attack of a Df Locust after being hit by another charge attack and a critical from a strafing VTOL. The Hadur quickly got into a battery duel with its opposite number, a DF Hadur. The Vixen and CBAs moved up the left side, the Marauder and R10 taking the center, and my Vulture, the Elementals, and the fallen Eyrie on the right.
Learning from past battles, I ordered the Raven equipped with Repair gear and one of my best pilots. The first two waves of enemy units did quite a bit of damage, but the speedy Raven was able to repair much of the damage, both to my Mech and the Vixen.
The enemy forces moved three Mars tanks to block the entrance to the canyon and proceeded to wipe out the CBAs with An-P shots. The Elementals also suffered under this withering assault. The Hadur helped where it could after salvaging the opposing arty, its AP shots raining down on the Mars tanks. The Vixen and my Vulture moved forward to demolish the tanks, which were quickly replaced by another formation, this time two Glory tanks and a Sekhmet. I ordered a step back to cool down, knowing they would not pursue. My surviving units came together and moved into firing positions, taking down the tanks blocking out path.
However, the enemy still had two tricks up their sleeve. One was a pair of JES II tanks firing Streak missiles from behind cover and the second was a lance of fresh Mechs, including a Jupiter. The former Jade Falcon Jupiter stepped out and put a world of hurt on the Manteuffel. A coolant truck pulled up behind the assault Mech and did its magic. The Vixen tried to pump some damage into the Jupiter with its RISC APM, but missed and the Manteuffel exploded as the Jupiter finished it off. My Vulture slagged one of the JES IIs while the Marauder finsihed off the last Glory and one of the Mediums that raced out to charge the R10 and prevent it from escaping with the damaged tank.
In the end, the Falcon forces prevailed and my Vulture obliterated the enemy assault Mech with a pair of PPC Capacitor shots on subsequent turns. My Mech overheated and shut down, but the biggest threat was down and the rest of my warriors could handle the task until I was cooled off enough to rejoin the battle. The Vixen raced forward and based the HQ while the Marauder and the Raven finished off the last opposing infantry. The battle was won and the enemy forces wiped out.
Information captured inside the HQ provided us with their next plan of action, an effort to retake the base they lost in our opening assault. We are not sure why they want it, as the techs inside the HQ were in the process of destroying the computers and papers when our infantry ripped the doors off it and began shooting the surats inside. There appears to be some significance to that base and i have alerted our garrison troops to the coming battle while dispatching a star of front-line Mechs to assist.
(ooc - This battle was pretty fun and I really thought that the HK/Df tactic of using their lighter, faster units to cause asm uch damage as possible until the larger units could position themselves was a good one. Most of the heavy units stayed inside the cover of the canyon and made us come to them. As speed was critical, the CJF units had to move swiftly and were able to break the enemy assault despite their hidden JES IIs and late round Mech assaults. I lost some valuable infantry though and a good tank and that might hurt in the end. The DF/HK forces still outnumber the CJF forces in total forces and the next battle changes places, with the CJF units as the defenders agaist a HK assault force. Should be fun, we are getting it set up this afternoon. I shifted my CJF tactics some by including the repair SE gear on the Raven and that helped keep some units on the field longer than they might have otherwise and definitely saved both the Vixen and R10 from being destroyed.)
Another great experience day for me against oliverb and a friend of his, jim.
It was a great learning experience for me. I never really got to play against a great and dedicated Wolf player. He used the BR/SW SA (which was the only really reason why he had BR units) along with the CW Thor and a BR Vixen. That time i wanted to try and experiment with two light mechs. I used two Vixens (one to tag the other to kill) I never really liked using TSEMP-L but that time i wanted to try it out. Basically, i used the TSMEP to shut down an enemy mech for 3 damage then use the other Vixen (w/ PULSE-L) to attack heavily. I nearly took out the BR Vixen but the Thor reduced the Vixen with the TSEMP so that when i used it on the BR Vixen well it took only a point of damage. Then the PULSE hit for 6! so that was 7 clicks (to slavage) Then using the SA, he recovered to a non-salvaged status. After that, the Thor just ripped through them. The artillery support i had didn't do much since it was based by a minigun cycle that run past my infantry (CBA w/ AnP). Lesson learned - Don't push the two Vixens without sufficient infantry pressure in a combined arms game. Also, i was really under powered by the damages his Mech can do (particularly the Thor) It went passed itz prime but still a killer! The Vixens are great mechs to hunt rear arcs and kill, but without good infantry cohesion, that lost me the game.
Second and Third round against the Ares Poseidon. I used a triple mech formation here with an artillery support and highlander Hoverbikes (lack of cheap fast moving infantry to put along with the CJF Long Tom). I used the CJF Goshawk and the two CJF Vixens mentioned earlier. Keeping him moving and moving with the artillery and heating him up was the tactic i used to win. First round someone gave me tips, the second round i just followed the tips and adjusted some style. I used the artillery to bring him to a DFA range. After that DFA hit from the Goshawk, i place the two Vixens behind him (rear arc shot) along with the infantry support. After a few turns of hitting each other, eventually the Ares was swarmed up and destroyed by the Vixens. Lesson learned, proper complimentary mechs and units help.
Hope to hear comments on other ways to fight againts CW stuff. I lost to the Thor and the Slayer. (one big mistake, the two Vixens and the Goshawk were separated that time against the Slayer).
The battle against HK continues. Battle 3 saw the Falcons defending their newly-taken base from a HK/DF counter assault. One star of second-line Mechs and two stars of infantry and vehicles, most of them second-line units as well were left to defend against a mixed company of enemy Mechs, vehicles, and infantry. Lead by a Hellstar, Black Knight, and Thunderbolt, the HK/DF forces advanced on the base. The CJF Stinger fell first to a ocmbined assault from enemy forces.
The battle looked like it might turn in HK's favor, but it did not. The CJF Griffin and Ocelot held their lines, with assistance from the infantry and vehicles. The base commander, in a Gyrfalcon (Chistu's Gyr), held the left flank and picked apart a DI Schmitt tank before it closed range. The Ocelot managed several successful MDFA attacks and the Griffin pushed hard to hit with its big weapon. Eventually, the Shadow Hawk IIc and Griffin fell, as well as several infantry and vehicles. On turn five, the reinforcement Star arrived, but remained unused at the rear gate of the base. That turn saw the game change in CJF's favor and HK sounded a retreat. The Ocelot finished off the Thunderbolt with a MDFA and the Gyrfalcon felled a HK Mech and the survivors fled the field. In the end, the base was held, but with significant losses, the equivalent of almost two stars of second-line units. The reinforcement Star never moved or engaged, allowing the garrison troops to handle the situation.
After the battle, techs and officers searched the base and discovered a data crystal that had been left in a little-used terminal. The crystal contained the battle reports of the HK forces since they landed on the planet. Rumors were noted about a large, mystery Mech unit operating in battle against the Republic troops on-world. The Republic forces claimed to have severely damaged it but at great cost. It was then that the HK forces landed and routed the remaining RotS troops. Captured RotS troops told of a three-legged Mech that towered over all other Mechs and was able to easily destroy anything short of a Heavy Mech. The Falcon officers thought it all rumors until they got to a battleROM taken from a Mech engaged in fighting the unusual enemy Mech. The reports closed by saying that the Mech limped away, severely damaged and that the HK forces have not witnessed it, but were investigating a large cavern near the site it was last seen.
Battle 4 saw a Star of BattleMechs and a mixed Star of infantry and vehicles sent to the location of the cavern. They encountered stiff resistance outside the cavern and had to fight their way to it. The Jade Hawk and Thor both acquitted themselves well, as did the Thunderbird and Purifier troops sent to the field. One Purifier point, a R10 APC, a Hatchetman and a Blade all were destroyed but once again the HK forces were forced to retreat, but this time, instead of fleeing, they went inside the cavern. Falcon forces called for reinforcement and are in the process of repairing and resupplying befoe heading into the cavern and a certain trap.
Pheonixhawk, any battle between Clan Jad Falcon and House Kurita is bound to be deadly and casualty heavy. Both sides are a committed, (mostly) short-range force with absolute dedication to their goal, and have no fear of death.
It would be like asking forgiveness from hornets.
yech.
At the end of the day, any survivors could easily declare that they have faced the deadliest opponent, and would not be lying.
