*grumble* So I go to the mall for lunch (shut up, they have a decent cajun-in-name-only place) and my card gets declined. Worryingly, as I should have four figures int here still. Check my text, and it states I'm several hundred overdrawn.
Yeah, I thought things were going too smoothly.
A check online shows the claims check is no longer in my account and was never even pending. Which is odd, as I -saw- it pending yesterday.
Turns out, there's a systems glitch, and they -say- it should show back up later this afternoon. But if it doesn't, I'm looking at eight overdraft fees and a possible bounced multi-thousand-dollar check. So my bank -better- get this fixed... I ain't giving up this new-to-me van.
Did I use enough '-' marks in this post? I can -try- to do more...
In positive news, my board game package came in the mail today. I got Castle Of The Devil, Escalation, Last Night On Earth, Village, and LNOE Hero Pack 1. Yay!

The alst time I heard something like this happen, the bank waived all fees and whatnot. The only issue might be the bounced check piece since the place you wrote the check to might charge a late fee. I'd even try and get the bank to reimburse that. It was their fault, not yours. If they don't fix it, go to another bank. Or at least threaten to.

I haven't gotten a chance to play LNoE Hunger expansion yet. We've been too busy with Risk Legacy.

So... I have found a new show on TV called "King of the Nerds." Interesting first episode, very much in the vein of trash reality TV. However, something struck me as very odd. At the end of the show, they had a "nerd-off" to determine which player would have to leave the house. The game they played was chess - and none of the guys and gals were adept beyond the novice level. In fact, one of them (the winner) trained by playing rounds/learning from a computer program.
I have to ask myself whether this is a generation gap issue. I grew up with kids and we all knew how to play chess. Mind you, we were not experts or highly competitive, but even now I know my way around a chessboard. Is it that kids nowadays play too many video games or other forms of entertainment and chess is passe? What do you all think?
Guess I'll keep watching the show. This week's guest judge is George Takei. All the same, I continue to wonder how this is a show about the King of the Nerds and even the would-be kings don't know much about the ancient Game of Kings. Go figure.
(Yes, I do own a chess set and my daughters will learn to play when they become of age to do so.)
Fun fact: "King of the Nerds" is hosted by Robert Carradine (Lewis) and Curtis Armstrong (Booger) from the Revenge of the Nerds films.

I played chess as a kid, but it's been a while. You'd be surprised how many people don't know how to play. And keep in mind the show is really crowning the "King of the Nerds who were willing and able to go on national television and get made fun of." I seriously doubt the talent pool included all nerds everywhere. I mean, I wasn't invited.
Then, freakin' Penny Arcade said , and I paraphrase, "This isn't as bad as I feared. It's actually... decent. Maybe that'll change later on, but it's actually decent."
I may have to watch it.Apparently, the first challenge was everyone divided up into two teams, leaving one person left over... who then won, because nothing is nerdier than being picked last (or not at all) for teams. Reading that brought back flashbacks of second/third grade...

This is true. The one who did not get picked ultimately decided the fate of the rest of the episode. Though she was one crappy chess play advisor. I say that the show deserves a chance. So far it has entertained me more than Arrow. Make of that what you will.

Correct.
Many banks nowadays will normally honor the check anyways and not bounce it, and then if you're overdrawn, they charge you the NSF, instead of you dealing with the vendor.
Basically, the banks want to collect the NSF's, instead of having someone else getting it. The upside for you is that if it's due to a bank screwup, they should be waiving that. The downside is the number of people who depend on their bank to just decline stuff when they have insufficient funds, and then suddenly they're deep in debt.

Made it to San Antonio safe and sound. Just finished unloading the car. I am in love with our new place will post pictures later. For now I am exhausted
Tuesdays I take a French class. This evening we met to cook.
Basically I paid more for a meal I had to cook myself (and do the dishes afterwards) than it would have cost me in a restaurant, with the added aggravation of having to listen to a sommelier go on and on about a beverage I don't even like.
Sommeliers are the lowest form of con men.
