This may be one of the dumbest attempts at "Gotcha-ism" I have ever read on one of these threads. first off, you're a newbie here, and sorry if your political leanings make you feel unwelcome. I think we have a pretty rational and overall understanding group...though yes, I would say that without doing any research beyond years of posts, it's fairly likely that the group has a pretty centrist, maybe left of (current) center core. Then again, with today's political dialogue level, anything that does not match up with OAN/Q-Anon/Press secretary statements is considered wacko leftie Communist to the President and his followers. Your use of the much abused, overused, and thoroughly discredited idea of massive "rioters and looters" pretty much makes it clear what your assimilation of news and first hand accounts includes.

I haven't caught up with what others may have responded to you with, if at all, but your unbelievably stupid strawman argument about "dreams come true and you live in a district filled with rioters and looters..." would be dismissed as a first draft and rejected by any sort of forensics team at even a high school level. A. Certainly not my dream. B. How would you jump to rioters and looters? Do you use false dichotomies often when trying to argue a point you cannot articulate? It's funny that ONLY the far right talking heads and meme masters think that anyone, left or otherwise, claims that John R. Lewis' funeral, or a mass protest, or any other massive gathering, was somehow a zero risk for virus spreading. Like, there are literally pictures and videos of where people are (and some are not) wearing masks, discussing expectations, and people following at least some level of mitigation protocol. Your second strawman in less than 2 sentences. Maybe the appeal to ignorance type of statement works in some circles? Not sure.

As far as my area, yes, it's a poor, rural, heavily redneck area of Michigan; we've become pretty famous you know, what with the CSA flag-carrying, weapon-toting guys occupying Lansing a couple times, the initial resistance to mask wearing, etc. The whole "3 percenter" movement and Q-Anon dip####s have a fairly strong presence around here, as do some white supremacist movements. So yes, given that there is a DIRECT correlation between a person's political affiliation and their attitudes toward the Coronavirus and implementation of basic protective measures like wearing a mask(or even isolating themselves when possibly sick) is it wrong for me to generalize that we would more likely have a virus spreader from that background? Now, we could argue probabilities, but it certainly is at least more likely to come from that background.

Anyway, sorry you felt personally attacked by what I wrote. But I have a hunch many people by now feel sad that making false equivalencies, constantly finger-pointing at previous administrations, blaming conspiracy theories, labeling any criticism as communism, and downplaying the damage done by this administration's constant divisive, inflammatory rhetoric results in themselves feeling unwelcome by a large segment of the American population. Maybe that should tell you something? Maybe you fit none of those descriptions personally, so sorry for jumping to conclusions I shouldn't. But I've seen sooooo many people doing those things for the past couple years, and now crying victim when they are called on it.

I don't usually talk politics on here, though over the years, many of us have had a few venting sessions on here with topics related to the economy, environment, politics, etc. We usually either lightly support it or just move on, maybe even a private message. But I have a hunch your response to my post will spark much more discussion than my venting ever would have.

Ahh, well, I guess I should have taken a breath and spent a couple minutes reading through the thread before launching my counterattack...it appears most of my points were made for me before I even logged back on.

Sorry if I made somebody's friend mad and he went home. Not sure how long he's been with us beyond this thread, (maybe some in the last one too?) or if he was a special invite? I’d way rather know I bought it from a 107mm old-ass Russian built rocket, or getting snagged inside a shipwreck 80’ below the surface than die from little Jimmy’s ‘rona!

The Mouse army is gone. I kinda miss them. That was at the house we lived in from 2013-2018. The new house has bats sometimes, and these amazingly small, fascinating little ants as our only resident pests.
