Congrats on the dice working for you. I got 3 different pairs of them. You saw how monumentally bad they rolled for me at GenCon. I swore to never use them again.
Figuring they were just that bad for me, I gave a pair to Haven when he was at one of my venues last week. I felt bad later when it turned out they were horrible for him too. On the bright side, we both have mementos of these threads (that will never be used in a game again).
Don't feel badly, I AM using them. . .
To keep track of my rerolls and the extra actions that I gain from Leadership.
No, they aren't making my game-deciding rolls, but they are getting use!
A messageboard environment generally doesn't welcome depth. Pithiness can be great, but generally what people muster for effectiveness is just zingers. Effective brevity generally takes more time and effort. I'm sure that even Oscar Wilde quietly worked at it in order to make it seem as effortless as he often did.
Interruptions at work and a computer that keeps testing my patience and nerve -- is it just taking a long time to get around to doing something, or has the browser effectively crashed -- made it take much more time than it should have, but I did post a comment on the piece.
Good kick-off for a timely theme and one fairly close to my heart, too.
That was a well thought article. Looking back at both those articles it makes me think what new figures might have taken some overrated slots. To think of some of the figures we have gotten since then I could see post hiatus taking a few positions.
Right. Still, my tendency is to be more interested in looking for the ones that were under-rated, whether it was simply a matter of being unappreciated/overshadowed at the time or, more often, pieces that needed complementary pieces and/or rules changes to really shine.
In general, overrating of pieces will eventually self-correct, so that's not much of a concern for me unless it happens to be a piece I didn't pull, I want, and I'm hoping to help speed up the process of self-correction so that more of them are dumped on the market and the price drops.
Anywhoo, I just published my first strategy article for Al's Clix Cave Cantina. I'd sure love it if my fellow Ogres would check it out and tell me what they think. You can even flame me like The Le.
Holy Crow...I LOVE this article!
On a personal note, I bought Avengers #4 when it came out and I remember how special it was at the time. Heck, I remember the Lee & Kirby advisory to readers to take care of the book 'cause those who did would be glad in the years to come --- as I sat at the dinner table reading the comic while eating a Swanson TV Dinner with reckless abandon.
So, right off, this article grabbed my interest.
It represents such a cool idea --- to offer multiple possibilities for building the Avengers team on that classic cover -- that I not only respect and admire the obvious amount of thought, time and effort you put into this project, but I'm grateful to have the information. Really.
Besides the guidance on which versions of the characters might work best in a particular combo, I'm especially glad to have the tips on Feats --- especially since you suggest ones such as Endurance and Hold the Line, which I've NEVER used.
Since you preface the list of teams by stating that you would use the characters on that cover, I was curious to see whether you might offer one with a higher build total that includes Namor, only 'cause he's on the cover in that head-shot teaser (and is my favorite male Marvel character).
So, that said, I'd enjoy any suggestions for such a team.
Meanwhile...great job, sol. Best of luck and thanks for sharing!
As always...just my two cents.
EDIT: The only downside: now I suddenly think I want an Ice Cap!
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
I wrote the article bereft of having read Avengers #4 beforehand (in recent times). I corrected that last night, as I went and grabbed some stuff for future research. I love that line on the first page about 'cherishing this issue, because we feel you will deem it special in times to come' [/paraphrase]
Does anyone have a copy of 4400 Season 4 Disk 4? I seem to have misplaced mine. I will pay for shipping if anyone wants to just "Netflix" it to me =]
Not here! I'd forgotten the show until you mentioned it. A friend and his wife got into it when it was airing, as I recall, but I only took a brief look or two. I'm often wary of getting into those long arc sci-fi mysteries because I don't know which I trust less: That the writers really have a firm set of answers or that the network will greenlight enough episodes to get there.

No, but I haven't been keeping up with Suttkus' Evidence thread on it. I'm hoping for a few generics I'll really want, too.

I had to look up who that was. So, your local venue's proven to be one of the ones open to integrating the compatible sets? I haven't been following any discussions of that beyond seeing plenty of early resistance from those who didn't want "outside" characters coming in to the game -- be they GoW, Halo, Streetfighter or whatever else is to come.

Phobos is quickly becoming a favorite of mine as well.
Good to see! I know when first looking at them that I was concerned that they'd be too easy to take down. Do you think they have much of a chance without Nick?

Yeah, I can see this, too. I think we're seeing more subtleties being built in - characters that have a synergy with other characters/power sets - that's less obvious than stand-alone pieces with more obvious dominance.

Pretty sure the Marquess of Queensbury gave him a run for his money, in a way.

It is definitely worth watching. It only had 4 seasons, and though it ended prematurely due to the writers' strike, the ending was not so much a cliff hanger as an open door of possibilities. In all honesty, the nature of the show would never naturally come to a nicely wrapped ending
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
since the general plot of the story is "the war of the future will be fought in the past" and no real resolution would be seen in real time until ~season 2000+
, so the ending we got was actually much better than if the show were to run out of ideas and be forced to stop leaving tons of stuff unresolved.
I have seen the show 2-3 times all the way through, but my wife has not ever watched season 4, and we just finished disc 3 to realize we have no idea where disc 4 is (and the reality is that, since we move all the time and loan stuff out all the time, it is gone forever). We also temporarily cancelled netflix due to them raising their prices, and we are deciding if we would rather do disc only or streaming only, so I am coming to you guys for help =]
As a serious piece of writing with a credible opinion? Absolutely.
You must define the conditions, Miraclo.

Very good article. My only issue with your first team (V.1) is that you use Mjolnir and the Gem. Since both are blue objects that wouldn't be a legal build. The same goes with other teams where you use the Gem and the Key. Also, the key is 4 points and not 5.
