You also don't have to worry about keeping them. If you need the roster spot to work on those 2*s and 3*s you tend to cut down your 1*s to just a single character.

So, stupid stuff I did to start:

Right as I started playing, I saw a deal on 2* characters and figured I'd go for those. Having done so, I kept the 1* Spider-Man and didn't bother with the others, selling off their covers. Then DDQ came up and I figured maybe I might need a couple, just in case.

(I also sold off the 2* Widow covers because I hate that costume, but now that I know about feeders... oops. I've got a bunch of covers waiting to recruit eventually but kicking myself for the ones I sold.)

When I hit 1,000 CP, I intend to go on a spending spree.

Conundrum: everything on Latest Legends, or Classic Legends?
I still have so many older 5 stars with low numbers of covers.

"Some people" is me.

The way I see it, there are 2 choices.

1 - Start getting new 5*s to 13 covers and then work the older ones when/as you can (most likely through the new 5* special stores). This puts you into the current meta within 6 months to a year.

2 - Don't start even trying to catch up until you have a good portion of the older (especially the meta) 5* toons where they are effective.

With option 1, you're going to ignore classic tokens. The Latest Legends store is due to flip Monday (and Kate becomes favoritable on Wednesday), so with this option, just hold until then and start pulling tokens. Your goal will be to get 5Witch to 13 covers. Then you stop. You go back to hoarding for 4 weeks and rinse/repeat for Knull.

There may/will be some times (for me it's about twice a year) where you manage to cover something early. Build a bigger horde. Those can be used on specialty stores and maybe the Classic store to dip into the older stuff.

With option 2, you will get significantly more bang for your buck. 10 extra pulls may seem like "not that much" but consider the extra 4* shards in that and, if the RNG gods are going your way, it could be 2 extra 5*s. You're probably looking at 6-7 covers in the Latest store and 7-9 in the Classic store.

I think I'll hold off until Thursday, and try option 1: go for 13 5SWitch, then stop and hoard. See what happens.

That is what I do, but I am in the situation nbperp mentioned where my pulls worked out the last time such that I had all three done. I will be hitting it a bit today to get the new one on my roster, but after one cover I will stop.

Actually, after looking at things I don't know if I'm going to make a run at anything today. The only purpose of me cracking tokens today would be to get one cover for my roster. I have 425 yards already. Assuming that they follow their normal pattern and have shards for the five star as a placement reward in the event preceding it being an essential, then those, or at least those plus the first fifty Shards from progress in the next event, should get me to where I can roster the toon from my shards. The issue for me is that I like to save those shards for the end as a wild-card to finish them out at 13. I will have to figure the odds on whether it's better to use them now or to save them and prevent possible overspending later. My gut is telling me that it's better to save the shards, because right now I'm only trying for any cover, which is, when pulling a 5-star, a 1 in 3 shot versus when going for one specific cover, or possibly two or even three, a 1, 2, or 3 in 9.

Yeah, I decided to go ahead with it now.
As best as I can tell, the numbers agree with my gut.

So...the first 5* I pulled was Electro, so that was nice.
What wasn't nice was having to pull 21 4*s before my first 5*.
Spent 22 pulls, recovered 3.
Now sitting at 75 LTs and 3024 CP.
That is 195 pulls.
Most likely 28 days until the next LL rotation.
@ 3 pulls per day that is 84 more pulls or 279 to use at that rotation.
When that happens I will be going for getting Ronan to 13. I have him with one cover now and shards for about one and a half covers. I figure that when the rollover happens I *should* have two covers worth, so i will be gunning for 10 covers.
That is hopefully a ballpark of 210 pulls.

Oh, and during the course of pulling I got Okoye up to 400/500 for her next cover plus one of my 4*s was a Shuri, which put her one cover away from getting 100 Okoye shards.
I switched my 5* favorite to Scarlet Witch. She was at 400/500, now 442. I figure I will switch again once she gets another level.

See, I've always been "behind" on following "best practices" for MPQ.
It wasn't until Shards were introduced that I finally decided, "Yeah, I'll start doing what all the other guys always say they are doing: Hoard Tokens."
And it's actually been fun to hoard tokens, check my counts daily.
But, then I spend Shards whenever I have enough for a character.
The concept of "savings Shards for 'finishing'" is interesting, though.

My theory behind it was always that I would have two strong toons doing all of the heavy lifting in PVE, so the essential one can remain week.
Like, I would have Okoye and Immortal Hulk plus whoever the essential happens to be.
Now with powered up 5*s it is two of them plus whoever is essential.
In any case, the point is that until that essential character is champed, it is going to suck. As far as the gameplay is concerned, if the toon is at 1/0/0 or 1/1/0 there is no discernable difference. At 1/1/0 it sucks just as much as the 1/0/0, so there is no rush to spend the shards just to make the guy suck imperceptibly less.

I get where you're coming from.
I don't think I'll be able to hold back on the Shards, though.

This morning, I was at 998 CP.
I think I was at 41 LL tokens as well.
After seeking advice, decided to wait until Thursday to spend CP.
And, obviously, I'll have to cash in LL's before I can spend CP on Option 1 of the advice given.

I'm still on track for Thursday.

But, I decided to have some fun and spend whatever Standard, Elite, and Mighty tokens I had at the moment.
I didn't really keep track of my pulls.
But after I had put the covers to use: I'm now sitting on 1,061 CP and 48 LLs.

Still on-track to try Option 1, although it looks like I won't be going for 13 covers for 5Witch.

Looks like LL featured 5*'s are now Electro, Knull, and Ronan.

You do realize that 5witch is out of the LL store?

The very best situation is to get to 300 pulls for LTs. Keep on hoarding. Open tokens until you get a cover for the new 5* and then be done. After that just save. Assuming you are able to pull Electro quickly you can save a nice stash by the time you want to get 13 covers for a character.

Keep in mind that in 3 months will be the anniversary, which usually has a decent store to spend CP on.

Note that my goal is/was to get Okoye to control blue and purple over Immortal Hulk.
With my IH at level 452, he currently has blue @ 111 and purple @ 102, 484 Okoye has higher displayed values on both.
That gives her control of 6/7 (all but green) over Hulk.

Obviously, when played with a toon strong in blue and purple (like 5X), that toon will probably control those over Okoye, but the goal was more to ensure damage avoidance on Hulk, so I'm good there.

And like I said last time, after all of this work it looks like in the end it doesn't much matter as the powered up 5*s have been proving to be more effective than Okoye/Hulk anyway. That said, I'm not going to complain about having Okoye at 484 even if it doesn't make a difference. It will only matter if I start to accrue covers/shards for Hulk. I had been expecting that I'd roster a second one in that event, but since it looks like I'm not going to be using them as my crutch anymore I may have to think about that.
