I very much enjoy playing "physical" Magic, but the tournament environment can go #### itself. Bunch of cut-throat horse####.
I'd rather get friends together and see what silly garbage we've got going on today.
Try Commander (the artist formerly known as EDH) if you haven't yet. The precon decks they have are REALLY good for getting into that, and it is a pretty fun casual format.
It also combos well with Archenemy and/or Planechase.

See, I wish there was some sort of discount for getting it on multiple platforms. Because I would like to play this on my laptop. It's pretty great.
Considering that you get a card that sells for about $15-20 when you buy the game, that you can pick up at your local game shop? It literally does pay for itself.
Also, normalview is a copycat.

Is Planechase any good? My understanding was that it was effectively Battlefield Condition cards, and the few that I saw seemed especially slanted toward certain colors and decks. Which I do not like.
What is Commander? Is there any relation to Emperor?

I just played a tutorial match against the AI and I don't think I learned too much.
Wait, I shouldn't say that. I learned stuff, but I didn't really learn any strategy. I don't have any MS points right now, but I had planned on picking up some on Friday so I'll probably buy the full game then.
I think I'm more worried that the game may make me want to buy actual Magic cards though.

Unless you have Magic playing friends, you should be safe from that.

So essentially, you have a Leg. Creature, everything in your deck has to match their colors, you have 99 other cards in your deck, and the highlander rule applies.
During the game, you take your Leg. Creature out, and can play them like they're from your hand, and can keep bringing them out for ramping costs. Everyone has 40 HP, but if they take 21 damage from Commanders, they're done.
How does that integrate with Archenemy?

You have one Archenemy commander player, and then have a bunch of other Commander decks trying to take him out.
And they recently released a bunch of Commander decks, which... well, even if you don't want to play Commander, there's a bunch of good cards for casual play. Particularly for multiplayer, it's a great format.
As far as Planechase goes, it is a bit like BFCs, except you rotate through them as you keep playing, which changes things up a lot. Typically we just play from one big stack that has all of the Planechase cards in there.
(There's also a Chaos Magic app for Android/iPhone, but I don't know if you want to go there...)

Ah, if only we could all live in a socialist state...

Actually just came from my weekly EDH/Commander event, and yes it is fun. For instance in the last match there was 3 of us, one played an artifact that caused any player that shuffled their library to lose life. And I played an artifact that cause each opponent that lost life to discard the same amount of cards off the top of their library. Which was fun since only one of us was playing fetch lands and other stuff that sped up his deck.
But yeah, it provides ways to be inventive with your deck. Death by Dragons gives all except one player a 5/5 flying Dragon on the battlefield. One player generously gives all except himself a Dragon. Then he plays his Commander, Karrthus, which gives him command of all the Dragons on the battlefield. And then someone plays an Instant that destroys all creatures, and we start from scratch again.
And yeah in Archenemy the one player who plays Archenemy has the Scheme deck which gives him extra abilities each turn to balance the fact that he's playing 1v3. So playing it with Commander decks can make pretty much anything possible. So you're playing this guy that halves everyone's health amount. And I have this enchantment that doubles all damage dealt.... so if you had an odd amount of health, you have 1. If you were at even health, you just died.

1) Just watched Chasing Amy for the first time at Darq's recommendation. Much like Tarentino movies, I dislike Kevin Smith movies. This one was no exception. I will say that of the ones of his I've seen, this is the best. Still nothing to write home about, but I do like how this one really makes you think about people and the reasons for their actions. Two major distractions in this move were a) smoking and b) Ben Affleck's goatee. a) When every character is a chain smoker and the smoke fills the screen on almost every scene, it distracts me. b) I don't think Affleck is near as bad an actor as a lot of people say, but the dude can't grow facial hair to save his life. I found myself staring at it and having to rewind the movie to catch what was actually being said.
2) My card game thing is moving along nicely. I have completed 73 cards thus far out of the total goal of 180. Anyone who wants to see a few of them, drop me a pm.
3) magic sounds way more complicated than it was back when I played. I think that was around Ice age and 4th edition or something.
