Very good article. My only issue with your first team (V.1) is that you use Mjolnir and the Gem. Since both are blue objects that wouldn't be a legal build. The same goes with other teams where you use the Gem and the Key.
Hmm...yeah, that's true. I guess I was thinking of our 'house rule' when it came to the objects. I won't change the article, but I will point out that in a tournament situation you are only allowed by the rules to use one Special Object, house rules notwithstanding. I don't want to give out incorrect information (although I admit I didn't write it strictly for n00bz).

All good now?
EDIT: Done.
You were "all good" with the first version as far as I was concerned. I love these types of articles purely for the creative analysis of theme team builds. I just didn't want you to get flamed by rule mongers.
Also, I edited my earlier post to reflect that you have the key listed as 5 points rather than 4 points. One more CYA easy correction to avoid the flames.

Thanks.

This one I was actually worried about. Obviously, I don't actually have the key yet. We haven't given it out at the venue (which I think will happen next week), but I didn't want to leave it out. Time to do some further corrections.
First, let me say i know you were going for a specific issue build (Avengers #4). That said, as I am not a huge fan of feats and would rather fill a team with characters any day, do any of you know how soon after issue #4 that Hawkeye (AV56) joined the Avengers? Adding him to most of the teams brings it almost right up to 500 points. In fact, if I can get a hold of a Wasp I think I might play this team soon.

Hawkeye doesn't appear on the team until Avengers #16. When everybody but Captain America left.
What I am hoping for though, is a Rick Jones figure (in Incredible Hulk) who was hanging with the Avengers at the time, who should you choose to not use Feats (although I always will have them in my articles) could substitute for the Feats.
sol: When considering the choices for Hank Pym, did you consider swapping the Giant-Man sculpt onto the SI Yellowjacket (a) dial? It's something (well, not the sculpt swap as I only have one of the 82 pt Giant Man, but in terms of the dials) I've tended to do as points allow. The only things that are out of place (IMHO) with the Yellowjacket are the opening click of Leadership and the ranged attack. The range is the thing that most takes him into Yellowjacket territory, though the Leadership and big ideas aspects also feel more fitting for him when he returned to the team after his first break, returning as Goliath; for several years (our time) he had the authority of a founding member along with becoming the team scientist since Tony was taking a long break during that stretch.
Aside from those points, though (and I can understand them being deal-breakers), the stats, Perplex and late-dial Outwit work for me.
For comparison, it's

(Special) : Yellowjacket possesses the Avengers team symbol. He doesnt possess the Skrulls team symbol.
(Speed) Giant Man: Yellowjacket possesses the {giant} damage symbol and can use Charge.
The 82 pt Avengers set Giant-Man feels too under-powered for me, which chafes me a little more than working with the slightly inappropriate Yellowjacket. I'd probably only feel bad about the latter if I caved in to pressures in the game and used his ranged attack -- aside from throwing something. If I ignore the 6 range, treating it as a 0, and don't succumb to the urge to Feat him with Brilliant Tactician, I come out feeling better about using the (human) Yellowjacket dial.
Then again, I find myself building 600 pt teams these days for home use, so I have more room to work with.
Original team (Issue #1 & #2)
AV059 Wasp 37
AV038 Giant-Man 82
MU200 Iron Man 100
FFHA005 Thor 150
MU102 Incredible Hulk 113
482
"Cap Joins the Team" (Sol Team)
AV059 Wasp 37
AV038 Giant-Man 82
MU200 Iron Man 100
FFHA005 Thor 150
CA060 Captain America 68
437
Issue #16:
AV059 Wasp 37
AV038 Giant-Man 82
MU200 Iron Man 100
FFHA005 Thor 150
CA060 Captain America 68
AV056 Hawkeye 56
AV057 Scarlet Witch 34
AV058 Quicksilver 49
Issue #20 (Probably my favorite since Swordsman was only in one issue until the '70's):
AV059 Wasp 37
AV038 Giant-Man 82
FFHA005 Thor 150
CA060 Captain America 68
AV056 Hawkeye 56
AV057 Scarlet Witch 34
AV058 Quicksilver 49
SN008 Swordsman 35
AW088 Iron Man 89
601 (My venue will allow 2-3 points over if need be.)

Right. That brought in the Cap's Four era, where one's almost forced to build lower point teams -- or ignore the 10% Feat Cap and go insane.

Right. He'd be very appropriate, as he came in both attached to the Hulk and as key to the formation of the Avengers, and after issue #4 he kept trying to become the new Bucky.
I'm kind of excited for the Hulk set, but not because I care at all about the Hulk or Hulked-Out-Heroes (which I don't at all).
I'm kind of excited because the HC figures that are large in stature tend to have the greatest amount of sculpt detail. Bigger figures look better. (i.e. Groot, Red Hulk, DC75 Doomsday, etc.)
But at least when someone asks whether they should call you "Anthony" or "Tony" you can answer now, as can I (after not being able to use the following line for 20 months):
"You can call me anything, just call me Pay Day."
Are we not working men?!? And it feels sooooo good.
...thus spake the guy who works 12-hour shifts on Saturday and Sunday.
Tim Burton was right: "A square jaw does not a Batman make." Steve Buscemi as the next Batman! Luke Perry as Joker! Let's make it happen!
