Speed Racer-- I was genuinely shocked to read the reviews *after* I saw it, with everyone ragging on it.
I couldn't think of one, but now that you mention it that's mine. Really liked Speed Racer, although it was long and bloated enough that I can see why people didn't care for it. Certainly underrated though, and edited down to 60-70 minutes it could have been really really great.

I agree that it's too long, but I still had a really fun time and was surprised that it was so hated.
I also get that I am the very-narrowly-defined target demographic for it (ie, a grown up who grew up on the original and was willing to see it updated).
I can't believe people liked T-2 and Spider-Man 2 (with Doc Ock). I just don't get it.
I used to say Pacific Rim was a movie that only I liked, but it seems a lot of people on the Realms like it, too.
I've liked all of the Punisher movies (not loved, but liked).
I'm surprised that Char doesn't like the original Matrix. I think the original is a great movie. I'm not surprised that Norym doesn't like it, because suddenly he dives so he probably has brain/oxygen issues.
I, too, don't understand why critics slam Speed Racer. That movie is fun, and does that cartoon justice.

For what it's worth I don't think I ever saw the original and I still liked it. Some kind of basic understanding of what the cartoon was like seems necessary, but beyond that it doesn't really matter. At least it didn't for me.

cc, true-- but there's not a huge loyal fanbase to give this a jump start, and that leaves it to people who are willing to get past the weird style. I daresay you are probably more open to weirdness than the general public.

I bet if you cut Star Wars Episodes I and II down to about 30 minutes each they would be good movies as well, maybe.

Indeed. Cut the prequel trilogy down to one movie, removing all excess Jar-Jar, Little Anni, and Anakin/Padme' romance footage. Then you'd have something.

Yes. Yes indeed.
Now that I think about it, that's one of the very few movies my dad and I mutually like. We usually have the polar opposite opinions on every movie, but Speed Racer was one of like two movies he's recommended to me in the last like five years that I didn't hate.

That has become my take on nearly all works of art ever, yeah: "This would be great if it was a quarter the length".
That being the case, it's weird that I don't watch Game Of Thrones. An abbreviated Song Of Ice And Fire should be cool, but I guess that's one of those few things that doesn't have a ton of material I would cut. Some certainly (cough descriptions of food), but not nearly to the same degree as most things.

Upon my first viewing of Spider-Man 2, I didn't like it because Doc Ock's arms having their own sentience really bugged me.
upon subsequent viewings, though, it became my favorite because I think it hits the power and responsibility theme of Spider-Man the best out of any of the movies.

I don't know about greatest movie of all time, but I recently (finally) saw it and enjoyed it.
I think that, much like Big Trouble in Little China, critics recognize it as something better than they originally did.

WRONG!
I like it. I always have.
I do not understand why people dislike it so much. But, at the same time, I can't really defend it, either.

I love the Matrix. But you are correct, it sucks balls.
I tell people to watch the movie all the time. I also tell them to pretend as though Neo wins the subway fight, and then turn it off. After that point, it sucks balls.
I hate Bullet Time and all the Uber-Violence. It's the philosophy of the thing that I love. It's basically The Cave Allegory updated and taken in a new direction. Keanu sucks, but Larry is worth the price of admission. Morpheus IS that movie to me. He's Yoda with even more assing kick!
I actually saw the Punisher and Captain America in a theater in the Cayman Islands as a double feature on a very rainy day when my dives got canceled in '91.

Have you seen Dark City? Similar, but with a much more personal feel. In some ways it hasn't aged well, but then again, neither has the Matrix.
