Have you ever had a night where you killed Mr. Immortal at least 5 times and got so frustrated that you almost hurled dice at another human being? I totally just did.
I had to vent for a minute. This has been a Jonna moment.

IWell, it is definitely hard to tell, but when I personally look at the figures from previews shown (which I think has an effect on sales) I don't really get that 'this is gonna be nuts' feeling. We haven't seen Darkseid, on the other hand, and I can pretty much guarantee he will be 30 bucks on the name alone. But it is pretty much a crapshoot. I think the sets around one character will generally do less than sets around a team or a 'theme'. Not enough sets in the pipeline to say definitively yet.
Trying to look for strongly different sub-themes to work into sets is something Wizkids likely needs to to. IMHO they fell into the trap of finding too many natural sub-themes for a Cap set, as they spilled out into the SHIELD/AIM/Hydra pathways. Holding back a little on some of those Maria Hill and Richard Fisk could have waited (though I wonder what the reaction would be to seeing reuse of such sculpts in later sets?), and both the passing attempt at Great Lakes Avengers and the inclusion of Sue & Johnny (really only there because they wanted to push the removable pieces mechanic more) should have been pushed off to later sets where they would be more easily absorbed, and instead a powerful sub-theme included. It's a matter of finding the right one.
Maybe they should have gone for another push at the Inhumans with a new Black Bolt, Medusa, Maximus, Karnak, Crystal and Lockjaw, bringing the power levels up on each?
Well, it's all done, and whatever's in Hulk is set in stone, too, so it's just going to be a matter of an unveiling. (As the Hulk had a few run-ins with the Inhumans over the years, come to think of it, that could be a good spot for them to deliver a War of Kings-level Black Bolt, etc.)
I hope Wizkids looks more at this sort of thing than trying to see what sorts of chases sells more cases.

I was waiting for that from the moment I saw the Soul-Killer's lament.
Time for me to get moving again. I have an expense check to deposit (unlike our paychecks, any of these reimbursed monies aren't handled by direct deposit) so since I have to go to the bank anyway I've brought my change jar with me so I can dump it in the coin-counter and deposit that, too.

Agreed, especially where Sue and Johnny were concerned.

I'd have taken that. I also would have taken perhaps some more AIM. All the generics in Cap (villainous) are Hydra. MODOK is mostly alone. I guess they didn't put enough power pieces in Cap, but there might be too few power pieces in Superman. I dunno..it's weird.

Yeah, and I love the Hulk, but some stuff that offshoots from Hulk has no interest for me, personally. Same as anybody else I guess, but the broader themed sets seem to hold more interest in general. More for everybody, maybe? I actually thought DC75th was too broad in contrast, though. Guess they are still figuring things out.

I know how you feel about it, but my problem is how do i move the stuff AFTER I get the cases and sell the chases. That's the real issue for me.
One of my next moves is to sell actual cases directly to people. I already have one customer. I just have to figure out how to market the cases to others without using ebay or posts here. I guess I could put up a sale thread.
Note that I won't say who my ebay name is and such (and the one in my link is MINE, not the people i work for) in order to not break any site rules.
Whos the customer? Maybe you should respond and give him/her confirmation that this deal is going to go down so they dont scramble to make preorders so they dont have another GSX mishap.

I really really think the sups set is going to suck in sealed. When almost ALL the commons we have seen ar 100+points a piece 300 pt teams are going to be a ##### to build.

I think it's going to be a fun sealed in set. You'll either have swarm armies or teams with 1-3 figures on it. I just want to pull 2 All-Star Supes.
It's like Michael Jordan going to the YMCA to play basketball.

How are you gonna have swarm armies?! commons are where you get the majority of figures, am i missing something? 2/3rds the set down and can count on my right hand(five fingers btw) how many -100 figs are in the set.

I thought I'd seen some of the Legion members and things that were on the cheap side. I hadn't looked at rarity so it may not be possible to field a team with them in Sealed, but that's the thought I was going for.

There's still too little of the Superman set revealed for me to really know how sealed is likely to play out, but I suspect the average points for a piece from the set will be on the high side, and that several of the lower-point pieces (Seven Deadly Brothers, and the low-end point Legionnaires) are designed to play best with their own kind.
The charity event I'll be playing in Oct. 1st (which has now been relocated to Philly, at EpiCon/EpicCon - however they're spelling it) will be 1 booster of Superman and 1 of Cap, which should be interesting.

I'm thinking I'll raised the sealed games to 400 points. Normally I've always done 300, but this set just has so many big guns that people will want a higher point game so they can use more than 2 figures.

Part of me was definitely looking for more AIM, but there were so many scrub-level generics in the set that more would have mostly dragged the estimation of the set down, I'm afraid. They made a point of keywording the Adaptoids for AIM, along with Mentallo, Fixer, Yelena Belova, Batroc, Scientist Supreme and both versions of Klaw, which I appreciated. They even did it with Red Skull (also both versions) which is good inasmuch that I like options, but not so good inasmuch that I wouldn't feel right about playing him and MODOK on the same team regardless of the build.

I thought DC75th was nicely spread out. It was probably almost only the concentration of Lantern items that bothered me about it, but I recognize that was both a push from DC's side and probably an effective marketing element for many of the customers. I enjoyed the All-Star Squadron/JSA, Secret Six and Titans elements of it probably more than anything else.

Which potentially brings us back to the same side.
There's always going to be dead wood in the CUR levels after the first rush of a set because most of them are meant to be discrete, individual characters that people would tend to treat as if they were playing under highlander rules. If the set sells very well there's little to get around this. The only two ways I can immediately see are:
Make more of them generics - good generics - since even if Players A and B may not be amassing a force of them, Player C definitely will, and so they'll retain market value and interest. Sentinels that are "merely" giants, as they were scaled in the 60s would be one, Hydra Dreadnoughts were a missed opportunity in the Cap set, and Kree Sentries are all potential stand-out generics they could pump into a set.
Dials designed specifically to make playing multiples of a named piece effective, then leading players to realize what the trick is so they'll be holding onto their extras of those pieces and will be looking for more.
Aside from new players coming into the game looking to build specific teams/collect favorite characters, once a set's been out for a couple weeks (really, much more than a week, and in some places only a few days) the only things people are looking for are high-rarity bits and generics, if the generics were well-designed.
