Life is a continuing journey where everyone ahead of us tells us where we're going and we don't believe them, but continue to tell the people behind us what to expect.
I started believing the people ahead of me after a point. I don't know where that puts me.
Also, to a large extent, I have stopped telling the people behind me what to expect in most circumstances.
We are not thugs (We don't use drugs) but you assume (On your own)
They offer coke (And lots of dope) but we just leave it alone
It's like that y'all (Y'all), but we don't quit
You keep on (Rock!) shock! 'cause this is it
Athletes rejected
Governors corrected
Gangsters, punks, and smugglers
Are thoroughly respected
The money gets divided
The women get excited
Now I'm broke and it's no joke
It's hard as hell to fight it - don't buy it
Put some wax on the trax and slide on outta here
Hatchets in the corner ears to the ground
Improve to the groove get down to the sound
Buttons and bows and bleu blanc rouge
All things lively must be used
Liberte, egalite, au jour d'hui c'est tres tres tres
Voici l'opportunite nous incroyables
I got the moves they got the grooves
Summoned the Gods and they all approved
Bad vibes akimbo on the shelf
Bit of a rap thing going for myself
This gold on the teeth's no sense at all
It only matters when it's on the wall
(If anyone knows the last one without cheating, I will be most impressed.)
It sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it. I had to look it up.
I sent it to my wife. She's a big Adam Ant fan. It took her a little while, but she knew it without looking it up.
In her words...
I didn't recognize it last night, but "Put some wax on the trax and slide on outta here" kept working on me until it was painfully obvious. I was very tired yesterday.
I LOVE live concerts and recordings. I think one of the most interesting things is when the band changes the song a bit for their live performances; extending a solo, adding some bass noodling, or my ultimate favorite, having the drummer change the "safe" drumming from their album to a more bombastic drumming that really fits the song.
