So, the halloween/dr. who mafia game got me interested in watching Dr. Who. So the question is, where should I start? Should I jump in with the current season, look for the original series, or somewhere in between?

You could always start with the second season of the new series. That was the beginning of David Tennants run. You could also start with the David Eccleston Doctor that was the first season. I watched Tennant's run first and went back to watch the first season.

I'd start with Season 2, which is David Tennant's first season. You can do Season 1, but it isn't totally necessary. Eccelson is pretty fun though.

I'm of the opinIon that the only Tennant episodes one would need to watch would be the River Song ep, and then go right into Matt Smith. Eccleston and Tennant are great and all, but the Smith era we're now in is like a whole new show.
"Why would the possibility of me being wrong ever stop me from doing something?"
I think you should start from the first season, the Ecclestone episodes. They give you a wide variety of things to expect from the season, not to mention it helps to know where Rose Tyler is coming from.
Personally, I prefer Tennant's run, Smith's run has been good storywise, I just can't think of him as the Doctor after Tennant.

I can see that.
I just think Tennant was easier to take as the Doctor for me. I attempted watching the first season with Eccleston, but couldn't get into it. I then started watching the Tennant episodes and loved them. After I was done with Tennant, I went back to watch the Eccleston episodes and found I could relate to them more.
Hell, I like Rose the best of all his companions, so maybe I'm the best for advise. I did not like Donna, though. Like, at all.

Well, not just for that reason. She had sass and was (in my mind) funny at least. The problem with the unrequited romance angle is that for Rose and Martha, that mutated into their ONLY angle. That limits the storytelling you can do.
And Rose was horrible, just horrible. However, I do like the current trio. Though I hope Jenny shows up again. That could be funny.

For those of you curious about Swedish culture, you may want to watch this: http://svtplay.se/v/2584088/allt_for...p167320,1,f,-1
It's a reality show where Americans get to visit Sweden and get to reconnect with their Swedish roots. The one who wins gets to meet their Swedish family.

Back... and a little hurt. But, what doesn't kill me only makes me stronger. Finally decided I am cutting back on mafia. I want to start limiting my online obligations so I can "live" a little more.
This weekend made me feel like I focus too much on things.
