Sure, but that doesn't change my opinion of Grant Morrison.
My favorite example is Apple. I like a lot of Apple products, and a Mac has been my primary non-work computer for years. But lord almighty the Mac Faithful are the most annoying tech poeple I can think of. Doesn't make the Mac itself good or bad, though.
Oh it is definitely more a dislike of the fans than the actual thing being discussed. I'm just saying that a particularly rabid/moronic/up-their-own-!@# fan base isn't going to make me want to run to my nearest store to check out what the buzz is all about.

So? Are you that worried that other people will lump you in with fans that don't like him the same way that you do/as much as you do?
I've been a Hal Jordan fan through thick and thin (and it got *very* thin) for over 30 years, and lots of people only know/like the cocky Top-Gun personification of the character, or only because they thing the rainbow Lantern thing is cool. That has zero bearing on my enjoyment of the comic and characters or not.
High.
I'm tpchid.
And I too am a long-time Hal Jordan fan.
(Hi tpchid.)

Yep, being a Hal Jordan fan is like sitting through an AA meeting. It really feels like this when I get in discussions about him a my LCBS. The movie has to be my low point, but he is still my favorite.
So I am working at the library and a lady comes in to check out a computer. I scan her card, no big deal. The next guy comes up to check out a book and I scan his card. Right as the screen changes, I notice the the woman's address was on the same road as mine, so after I check the man out his book, like a good nosy little person, I scroll back to see what her address is. As it turns out, she had an old address listed, because the address she had listed was my current address! Fun little small town happenstance =P

Sure, me either.
I was talking about people who dislike something because other people like it, or like it less when it becomes popular. I was an REM fan before they broke big, for instance, and it's really weird to see one of your favorite bands suddenly get picked up by every frat guy on campus. But the music was still good.
Before you make any more "Counter arguments" to my statements, Chid, remember that you have only been reading comics for a little over a year at this point. When you have the 25 years of comic reading that I have you would have more of a background to pull from where Wolverine and characters of the like have been infused into every corner of every aspect of almost every comic that is on the market. If it isn't Wolverine specifically then it is characters with as little depth as him that were "Inspired" by him (and by inspired I mean the two dimensional type of character who exists only for sales)

Yeah, definitely.
Still, it was a little off-putting when the jocks who made fun of me for liking Dave Matthews Band in 1996 were rocking their hemp necklaces and going to see them play at Foxboro Stadium in 1999.
Not overly bothersome, more of a "Oh, you like DMB too? Wow, that's justYOU'REAJOCK!@#HOLE."

I noticed in the thread about Joker having the Monster keyword, people debating if he should have the keyword or not because it's his actions that make him a Monster and that he's beyond all human feeling, not actually being a Monster. I wonder if I should stir the pot a little and post in there that Martian Manhunter probed the Joker's mind and found that there is still some human empathy in there, but it was written by Grant Morrison?

I wince about the movie, but it doesn't rate. The second lowest point for me would be the early 80s, when the book was just a complete mess drifting with no creative direction. It gave us the Boy Exploding in a Vaccuum cover and Haljor the Barbarian (I am not making this up: http://comicbookdb.com/issue.php?ID=19827 and http://comicbookdb.com/issue.php?ID=19823)
The lowest point, of course, is Emeral Twighlight, when they completely change his personality for the sake of a shocking sales event/new direction.
No matter how "pushed down our throats" any character can become, if you put the right writer behind him/her they can still be worth your time.
The problem with a character being over saturated is that means a lot of bad/mediocre writers get their hands on him/her. That means a lot of bad stories over time.
Wolverine, Deadpool, and Superman are great characters, they've just been muddied up with horrible interpretations over the years

Once again, I am not disagreeing with you on the characters. You're right, in terms of comics I do not have the long history you do, though I have known about most of the characters for most of my life through other media. I was just pointing out that I hate the use of "I hate X because I am told it is good/popular" as a trump card to prove points or "win" a discussion. It is unbelievable how often I see it used in this way on this site. Just annoys me each time.
That's it. Don't read any more into it than that.
To me that statement is just one step above "I liked X before it was cool, and now that you like it it isn't cool." This was the childish game I tortured my younger brother with when I was a kid. There is no logic behind it other than the logic that ensures that the new people can never be as cool/in/hip/edgy as someone who liked it earlier.

I can get behind this.

Okay, so I have more like 35. Can I argue with you?
If you are sayinjg you hate the influence a character has had, I guess I can get behind that. Even so, that would not explain the Superman hate, only the Wolverine hate.
I mean, the influence that Superman has is that there are superhero comics as we know them.

Forget about the kid in space, look at the size of Hal's hands/forearms (particularly his left)! What's the story there?
Yeah, I hadn't really read anything centering on Hal since he was running around with Green Arrow on their road trip. I would read bits and pieces about him and just felt bad for his fans since they raked him over the coals over the years (particularly Emerald Twilight). The whole Twilight thing even bothered me and I wasn't exactly a fan of GL.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.
