I believe it's a serious concern, and we should listen to the actual doctors and scientists and minimize our contact with others. That will help slow down the spread, which will keep the system from being overwhelmed.
Did the experts tell people to buy ALL the toilet paper?
The COVID-19 death rate — the number of known deaths divided by the total number of confirmed cases — varies widely by country right now. In Italy, as of Tuesday, it was about 8%, while in the US it was 1.7%.
We'll know better in hindsight of course, but these numbers are pretty serious. A couple of big factors are whether a country's hospitals are overwhelmed (like Italy) and how far into the spread a country is (which si why I think those Nordic countries are low-- their cases are mostly in early stages).

Thanks! You're the first person ANYWHERE (several news sources included) to give me a decent reason for what seemed to be an overreaction until now. That second part about hospitals being overwhelmed totally makes total sense and news sources and government officials should be leading with it.
Frozen potatoes are following right behind toilet paper. Also, I got held up at checkout for having more than 4 canned goods. There's a limit to 4 per family per day. I guess they let me off because I bought several small can s and I guess they could tell that I was shopping for the week and not the day.
At my local store, they're spraying your hands with disenfectant when you enter, they have pre-disinfected the shopping carts, they are limiting almost everything to 2 per person, the first hour of shopping is for seniors, and they're still out of things like toilet paper, disenfectant, isopropyl alcohol, etc.
