Originally posted by webhead817 Ultimate, is this a pre or post dec. 9th team? You talk about the new cards, but not about any new figs...
Lincoln's Holiday Event is Dec 11th. I have some MM stuff from the Pre-Release but I'll have more before the game. I know which cards I have off hand but my figs are at home (I'm at work), so I was just using figs I know I have off hand. I am considering MM figs but I know what to use really. My usual venue is pretty anti-cheese and I am not used to building teams designed to kill cheese.
I had a conversation at the pre-releasae event reguarding cheese teams. We dicussed strategy and fun in reguards to the concept of cheese. He stated that he beleived cheese teams were built for strategy of the game and that theme teams were played for the fun of playing. I took exception to his distinction that strategy and fun could not co-exist. As I read the same teams being talked about post after post I become more resolute that cheese offers no fun and even less strategy. There can be no strategy if all stategies are the same. Exact copies of teams lead to exact copies of games. Personally I believe that the strategy of a game goes up as people abandone these cheese teams and diversify the playing field with theme teams of all kinds. For this reason I hope that my theme team will not be the only one present at the pre-release.
BenG.
So what are the prospects of a swarm team? Several cheap attacks with high damage potentials- BCFers, perhaps? V Havok, Electro, Ult Cyclops? Maybe with some Super Senses to stymie the opposition. Stealth won't do too well since Thor is most likely going to be the most common team. But some Indy might work out well. And the IC U Elektra . . .
Or how about human sacrifices? Rookie Sidewinders, vanishers, and Moloids jumping in Thor's LOF or in adjacency to him, so as to force him to break away or waste an action on 6 points? Maybe have one of your guys with Trick Shot and a meat shield. GL?
PS. As to my earlier post lamenting the encouragement of con artists and paramedics, I wasn't referring to those discussing strategy on this thread. I was referring to Wizkids for trying to up the cutthroat competition in Heroclix. Sorry if I rubbed anyone on here the wrong way.
Come play in a mafia game! Hey! I'm talking to you, Scott Pilgrim!

Sorry, if my response seemed a little off, as that wasn't my intent. I took what you posted, as your way of saying that we were encouraging this style of play. I would never encourage that type of play, because I'm against it....but then I don't have to. The prizes do that!
1/6th of the Brothers Prob. '19-'20 Season: 15-13(8 events) 2 wins, 2nd XDPS PR 9-7, 7th SOC
I refuse to play full cheese, but at these cut-throat type tournaments I will allow myself to play what I call semi-cheese. Semi-cheese to me means:
- No Con Artists. I flat out refuse to use these figures.
- No Dupes of non generics. If I want to PCers, I'll use two different ones.
- Either all good guys or all bad guys. Many figures I will allow on both though (for example, Destiny was a member of Freedom Force, so I will use her on a good guy team if I have to).
It's still possible to make a very competitive, semi-cheesey team with these constraints, but I feel a lot better about myself doing it that way.
Christ did not come to condemn the world, but to save it.
Then the judges running the event don't know the rules.
As for cheese: I'm not a fan, but I win LE's for the purposes of selling/trading them. I used to hate it, but I'm one of those "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" people.
If they're offering LE's like this, I'm going to be as cutthroat as possible.
Good luck to VandalSavage, Thugit, TechLee, and others at the Premier event this weekend. Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, I will not be able to make it.
Yes the cheese is going to be extreme during these events. It will be so extreme that there will not be much fun in the games themselves, but competition should be fierce. I think a number of players will play many of the same teams posted here. It then comes down to strength of player and the luck of the die rolls. I also thing lower build total will be huge and you will have players sitting back waiting for their opponent to make the first move.
One other strategy that might win is to actually make a theme team and then politic the heck out of it that your playing a theme team. Make the judge or judges know that your having fun and putting up a good fight. Heck even the fellowship prize winner is going to be suspect because everyone is going to be putting out their best used car salesman charm and kiss ever baby they can to get the fellowship prize. Some may purposely choose to loose each round since a number of venues have a habit of giving fellowship to the biggest loser. This apparently happen at a few of the prerelease events. (Please, Please judges don't automatically give the fellowship to the biggest looser) Politicing worked really well at Gen Con this year where I won 3 of 5 Fellowships and that was when I was playing friends. Every nice thing your opponent has to say, you will have to wonder if it is only because they are wanting the fellowship prize. Will the fellowship winners be the ones with the best fellowship, or will they be the ones that best sold a concept that did not come from the heart.
I hope these events are a success. However, in the future, I would like to see Wizkids come up with some scenario or team building constraints for each premier level event which will shake these tourneys up. At least this way you might see some different cheese... I mean teams.
Even though these prizes will probably sell somewhere between 200-500, everyone have fun and keep things civil.
I already get the LE Otto which is what I'm in it for, and if I somehow manage to beat the plethora of Black Adams, Firelord's, and Ultrons, then so be it.
For the tournament I'm in:
Unrestricted
REV's only
No duplicate of ANY figure
300 points
Must be non Mutant Mayhem
Support on the dial does not work
Now usually when I hear the magic U word I grab Doctor Strange and head to town, but I kinda want to try some new stuff. So I'm going with this:
Taskmaster will always be able to give Hobgoblin an 11 attack and it gets even worse with Hobgoblin having that RCE later with either an 11 for 3 or 9 for 4.
Hobgoblin, Doombot, Parademon are the good taxis with which I move all the guys around with.
Sabretooth is the mastermind fodder-he sucks it all up and regens it back.
Deathstroke is the MVP, he outwits and his top worthy consistency gives my team some much needed dial unshallowness.
Meh, what do you think?
I also thought of this team. I'm not going to get the most points, but I am going to win all the games.
The 4 barriers do a tag team of setting up barriers in the corner. The total is less than 300 (by about 9 points) the victory goes to the one with the lowest build total (i.e. me) and if worse comes to worse you have several close combatants, two pulse wavers/energy exploders, ranged combat experts, SHIELD with enhancement and a flyer.
I'd only do this team to piss people off.
And before you pick on my teams-I was a guy with KC Superman and grunts at the DC Origins game and came in second (curse snake eyes on a push) and for 200 point games I play Doom vet and a pog. I do extremely well with him-almost took out a Nightcrawler team if it weren't for a miss.
