Now, in a way I'm a little miffed since I really enjoyed the collectibity aspect of the game. Now that it's going to become "collecting for dummies" with a 1:3 unique ratio, I won't be as excited when I do pull a unique. Super-Rares reduced the collectiblilty of LEs, and now they seem to be taking that same route with Uniques.
But now the play aspect of the game HAS gotten a lot better, and I'm looking forward to spending less on a set and getting the complete set a lot faster. All in all I think I like this idea since it will be saving me a lot of money. I've already decided that I'm gonna have to sell off all my Marvel sets so I can pay off bills and such. I mean, sure they're fun to collect, but I hardly ever play anything from them.
I've never been a big fan of "Support Your Local Game Store" in some respects. I will do all I can to support them with comic purchases and sealed games...but I feel "Support Your Local Game Store" comes only after the Game Store "Supports Their Local Players." Unfortunately...the latter isn't always true. I'm sure there are those that disagree with me...so I'll just have to agree to disagree now.
I actually fully agree with this line of thinking. I was once a naive loyalty driven "support your local venue" clone until I got a chance to see just how manipulative a store can be behind the scenes, shuffling cases, "losing" prize support, etc. Now, Im about what is right for me, and not about "supporting someone else."
I think this announcement is great! I think that all collectible games should be done away with, I am of the belief that everyone should have access to all the goodies equally. Sorry, but Im not an elitist ####### like the oh so many players that whine about LE's in the boosters, etc., ad naseum.
I think the new map size is also convienent. Besides, now it will be easy enough to just put two 2' x 3' maps together to get the 4' x 3' map for awesome battles and multiplayer fun.
And, I want to say KUDOS Wizkids!! KUDOS!! The fact that they have actually listened to some of us dingleberries to the point to agreeing that Heroclix should be more themed and scenario driven is really awesome on their part. Thanks again.
Also, on a side note, I did get a chance to speak to Ray Wehrs (sorry if I mispelled your last name Ray), Wizkids Distribution Manager at Origins, and I have to be honest, Ray is a smart cookie, and a hell of a nice guy. If half the people working for Wizkids is as smart as he is, I think Im happy with the direction they are moving. Why? Well, because I think they actually listen to what is being said.
I do like the fact that they're theme orienting more. It shows that it's a comic book game and not a war game like 40K.
Hey, $20 says the free map for the Giant Sized X-Men set is Krakoa...
And I like the idea of exclusive figs that you don't have to go to convention to get, although we will see alot of those on ebay shortly after (people buying a case and getting 4 brick figs, bringing New Guys that could give a dam, just to get their fig, ect...). But, it shows that they are starting to pay attention.
And I loved the answer to the question about a DC Convention peice like Dark Phoenix or Galactus...

They also said that while there are no new Team Abilities, there will be more Feat Cards for Team Conversions as was done for the FF and T-Bolts. My money is on X-Men/Ultimate X-Men being interchangable for at least one of them.

Nah... my money's on Alpha Flight and New Mutants. People have been #####ing about Alpha Flight since the beginning, and there have been alot of New Mutants lately...

I'm sure that Alpha Flight is going to be given the Feat treatment, as well as the New Mutants. The only real question is when. I'd like to see a Feat conversion for the Skrulls, so their TA isn't so useless. Of course, I'd like to see some Skrulls too.
I love the 3:1 ratio of uniques. Sure the after-market value may and will drop, but for those who buy a lot of boosters, this will save them more money than they would earn from selling extras. When I say this I mean players, not online stores or venues. Plus it will make after market figures cheaper for players unable to buy a ton of boosters and still allow them to get the figures they want. This will attract players who didn't have the cash originally to join the game now that they can get their favorite characters. Nice move WK.
One out of every three boosters produced contains a Unique! Players will only have to buy half as many boosters to collect a full set (slightly less than a full case!) Complete-set-collectors will end up with, on average, 78% fewer duplicate figures. All of this without sacrificing any characters – expansions will still contain 96 figures each!

I don't mind Alt Team abilities, but I hope they don't do them like TBolts. I would rather them list a number of figures that can be a part of the team on the card. This would work alot better now since sets are going to be "themed" focus. I like the TBolt ability, but do the Avengers team really need an Alpha Flight alternate team ability to use also.
The announcement didn't seem major. Improving the ratio of desirables to less desirables is good but the brick thing seems to be one of those things where the creators were so clever that they outsmart themselves. I don't believe the "clixbrix" idea is bad, I just believe that they will sell more product because the figures have improved as sculpts and the dials are more realistic and playable. (But Ult. Hawkeye and FF Hawkeye are a little overpowered.)
I also like the idea of promotions that bring in new players. I wish my local venue was more supportive and aware of tactics and practices that would encourage new players. I'm definitely for the "New Guy" promotion.
I was told not to expect rules changes. I believe that WIZKIDS is missing the boat on this issue. I believe they could make the game faster and better with a 450 point default and one action per 150 points and feats that provide substantial rewards to theme teams. We probably won't see these changes but they should be considered.
Armor Wars or other themes sounds interesting but that wasn not major. Remember though, themes can backfire too if they are obscure, forgotten, unpopular or not fun to play.

The only thing about droping the online prices is that some of us that buy 2-3 cases to try to sell the extras to pay for our set will probably only buy 1 case now. Instead of getting a set for virtually nothing after selling extras, we will have to buy the case for around $220. However, we will not be spending that other $220-$440 on cases because there will less demand for figures. Sure its better for the individual player who does not use the secondary market, but less product may be sold as an outcome of this. If sellers can't make a profit from these figures, they will not buy the extra product that ends up on eBay.
Yes, the game will cost me more now to collect, but Wizkids will get less money from me because I will only buy 1 case.

What if there were twice as many uniques? Doesn't hurt their individual rarity really, since there are more of them, but it does increase how many different ones there are. This gives people more of a chance to trade those which they don't want for those that do as well...
I like the "Support You Local Store" aspect of the announcement. I've always been a advocate of supporting the local venue especially if it's a place for tournements. the local shop here offers cases at discounted prices, maybe not as good as online but if it keeps the lights on and the store open I don't have a problem spending a little extra. I can understand the concerns about bad venuse too. There was a place here that the owner "lost" the prize support offten, usually to ebay before the tournement date, but that shop was turned in and they lost thier support from Wizkids.
The Unique distribution is interesting, but I don't see that as meaning theres going to be more Uniques in the set, just the greater chance of pulling doubles. And I haven't read the transcript, nor did i participate in the chat so if this was covered there then I appoligize for being wrong.
And it was in the statement that single boosters would still be available for purchase, so there should be little concern about a shop opening the bricks and denying people the chace at the LE. But it also asks the question will there now be 2 choices of case for sops to get, the single booster case and the brick case?
