According to Lying in the Gutters, Jason Todd gets the cowl. Grant Morrison is writing the story.
This death of Batman/Batman becomes a New God/A Robin takes over as Batman rumor is just the strangest rumor I've heard in a long time. And yet, it will not die.
Well, as of the most recent Superman/Batman storyline, he was seen seriously thinking about getting it on with Orion's wife (who has a major jones on for Bruce as well).
So maybe Orion bites it and Bruce takes his place?
"Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad,
He's so bad, he mak'a me mad
Un-fun Dad, un-fun Dad
He's a real cad, Un-fun Dad"
i was asked who should take up the batman title, i answered , if you don't like that's you're problem, if you agree with it thats you're business.
people who hate things are just as entitled to an opinion as the ones who like things.
No, you CHOSE to answer. Just because a question is posted, you are not REQUIRED to respond.
And honestly, you're barking up the wrong tree here. I'm sure if I showed up in the Final Fantasy clan threads and said, "Stupid game, I hate it. then the PS3 will implode, OR HOWEVER MANY IT TAKES TO WIPE THIS FREAKIN GAME OUT OF EXISTENCE," I'm pretty sure Final Fantasy clan members would tell me to stay out of there area.
One of the best things about Batman is that he's mortal. Give him god like power and everything unravels.
Thomas and Martha Wayne are Dead. Not anymore, Bruce wants them back.
Oracle becomes Batgirl again thanks to Bruce.
Joker ceases to exist
Gotham is crime free.
It's Wayne's compulsion to be Batman that fuels him. Nothing good will happen if that gets altered, or simply taken away. Just my thought on the idea.
Rumor has it that all of the big-time Justice Leaguers are going to become god-gods, replacing the New Gods in the "Fifth World" in Final Crisis.
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and presumably Wally West, Hal Jordan, and the Martian Manhunter, with a strong likelihood of Hawkman as well if I remember the preview art right. Though it strikes me Barry's a strong possibility for the place of the Flash and I'd chose Kyle over Hal any day - if simply because he's the Lantern of Morrison's League.
So it wouldn't just be Batman.
Mind you, I have some difficulty believing that. From a business standpoint (even if the story is awesome, which I trust it will be), I can't see it working except within the specific framework of the multiverse where there's multiple incarnations of characters to draw upon. So it becomes a bit of a cop-out.
Not to mention the idea that Jason Todd ever becomes Batman fills me with the urge to vomit.
But at the end of the day, Batman is iconic. Within the framework of the JLA, he was a god - they were written as a pantheon, to a degree. In Kingdom Come, he was one of the major players despite being "just a man." He's the other half of the World's Finest. Batman typically has a role to play that overshadows a multitude of other more "powerful" characters. He's also one of the most absolute immortal DC characters, rivalled only by Superman, on a metatextual level.

I understand the iconic placement. Still that doesn't mean that they have to hit you over the head with it. Batman isn't Hades in comic reality, he just takes the role when placed in a discussion such as this. In the comic to me Batman is mortal. His psychotic compulsion is what gets him past God like situations. One of the best things about him is the fact that he doesn't have the power to change anything he really wants to. A very human element that many of us face. It's what helps identify him to us.
The very idea of Batman being offered immortality and taking it seems alien to the character in my view. The rest of them, not so much.
I'd prefer if Batman refused becoming a god. That would make a good read.
Oh and Dead Batman/Todd Batman/God Bruce Wayne? So not happening. You can still expect a status-challenging new scenario, still expect Alex Ross covers and designs, still expect some intricately complex yet instantly entertaining Morrisonia, just, expect something else. Did Internet reaction affect this? Not one jot it seems. All decisions are taking place at a much higher level, and Warner Bros. have made their feelings known.
