Nothing you say in the article is wrong...it's why, in my own review, I gave Superbrat a rating of just 3 of a possible 5 despite his ability to kill anything he faces.
On the other hand, he was absolutely instrumental in beating old-school Galactus in 1000 points the one time I played him in a Sinestro Corps team. So he's not junk. Just requires a ton of finesse.
God is smarter than we are....

I'm by no means new at heroclix but i enjoy playing a fun team because what's the point of a game if it isn't fun. though i will admit that at my venue very few people come and the regulars aren't what i call master strategists.

I agree that Superman Prime is more of a fun piece. It's a little disheartening to see someone put all their hopes of winning into this figure and the lose big, Charlie Brown style, and not have a good time because of it.

that's true. cause of the fact that my venue was kinda easy i had more chances to make fun teams. though the judge did beat Superman Prime and other Super-people pieces with a team of flashes. damn pingable invincible and damn armor piercing (damn KC flash too)
I faced a prime/lyssa drak force in a 400 point game and I played a standard team with some prob, pc and some good attackers. Prime came out strong but I was able tochase him down, wear him down and finish him off. He is awesome against other other supermen but he isn't unbeatable.
SO prob is different than pc now??

As a tangent - people keep talking up Metron, but I'm not sure I see why he's so great.
Metron was great in AA sealed/Floor - where very few alternatives presented themself to shut him down.

He's usable at 318 points - it's just that for the points, there's most likely someone *better* available.
What part does he play on a team?
Primary attacker. There's plenty of HSS'ng Super Strength figures with ranged attacks and good combat values that can get the job done, better.

In all honesty this figure should not die if played right. What's going on is you have nubs just throwing him out there and brawling with him like a brick. Although he is expensive, he is a hypersonic figure and needs to be played with finesse and a TK'er. People that I've seen play him will run up and punch and stay there or only run back a few squares leaving him wide open. You really need TK to get the most out of his movement and you really need to hide behind blocking terrain and have other figures of yours tie up your opponets figures to keep them from Super Man Prime. Another common mistake is people don't remember he has super strength. You need to utilize that with a dumpster or at least heavy objects to get your 8 clicks of damage in. I don't know many figures that can survive 8 clicks, and if they do they are severly crippled and no threat to Superman Prime. Another instrumental way to play him is with a cheap mind controling figure with the Compel feat on him. Now Superman Prime can do back to back 8 clicks to two different figures in one turn. Sure you take a click of damage, but for the chance of taking down two of your opponets high point figs or crippling them is definetly worth it. If played right he is a moster. Just too many noobs play him looking for an easy win.
i once used him in a 300 point dc only tourney and for some reason i lost without ever playing a game....
but seriously? i've used him twice, and both times he's cleared or doubled his point cost before taking the dirt nap. with the advent of "no survivor points" i don't know why your turn based sbp is the way it i. it should be...turn 1, tk and attack, turn 2 attack and run, turn 3 clear, turn 4 tk and attack.... especially if you're running sinestro core... instead of the fort and shield, just brilliant tac 2 lyssa drax.... hi, i'm superboy prime, i'll be dealing you FOURTEEN penetrating damage this turn. as for who i'd pick between sbp or scam? can you TK scam halfway across the world to first strike whatever they throw out?
I'll be taking the whiner for the win.

They should have put a warning on his character card...

Merc requires an adjacent figure with a team ability that costs MORE than the figure you're equipping the Merc to. There's no one in the game with a TA that SBP can legally Merc because SBP is so costly (Maybe the Batman/Superman duo).
Awesome! Superbrat Prime teamed up with World's Finest sounds like a sure winner.
He's worked pretty well when I've used him although I've seen him struggle in other matches. He's really an offensive powerhouse that is made to take down other tentpole figures which is fairly representative of him in the comics. His defense could have been a smidge higher but other than that he's pretty spot spot... oh and he should have a trait that allows him to see through stealth (Superman TA w/o the TA). He's definitely not the most efficient figure out there but for me at least he's usually pulled his weight.
