I have no problem with HorrorClix being compatible, as Jason is in the Marvel Universe, and so are the Mummy, Frankenstein, Wolf-Man, Dracula, and many other monsters.
I've been saying this from the very beginning. My friends and I would have all bought HorrorClix and HaloClix in droves had it been compatible. After all, Halo is part of the Marvel Universe, and so are many of the monsters in HorrorClix.
I agree. It's kinda like Kevin Bacon.
Le's'see here; how many DC crossover books have there been where:
Batman, Superman, Green Lantern
Have met:
Predator, Aliens, Spiderman, Daredevil, Grendal, Grendal Prime, Thundercats
Who have met:
Terminator, Transformers
Who have met:
G I Joe
Who have met:
The Refrigerator, Sgt. Slaughter
Who have met:
Hulk Hogan
Who has met:
Mr. T
Who has met:
The guys from Riptide
I mean really how far are we now from Dukes of Hazzard and ChIps Clix?
And I'm sure I've forgotten a bunch.
Plus all these guys have gotten comics:
KISS
Fred Kruger
The Crypt Keeper
Star Wars
Elfquest
Micronauts
Evil Dead
Buffy
Star Trek
Serenity
Robotech
Every Anime show ever: Inuyasha, Akira, Cowboy Bebop, Appleseed, etc, etc, etc
Really; if I drew a web you might be hard pressed to find someone who can't possibly have been in the same universe at some point in time.
Exactly. If you're gonna write off everything except superheroes and supervillians you can get rid of a quarter of your clix because they won't fit your definition of the word.
Horrorclix could be a huge success if they followed a simple formula. The generic potential alone would get HC players on board.. even ones who don't like some of the elements of HrC would probably want generic zombies, ghosts, etc.
In the end, that was not enough. People had "buffy". But the name wasnt on the clix.
That mattered.
Well, that and the delay between sets, the lack of marketing, the failure of complete compatibility...
But Hrc Did get me into HC.
And I hope it comes back.
"And I shall make little coins with my head on them and place them in the thongs of your strippers."
Get me a piece of paper saying make clix 100% compatible, and I'll sign it. That said, how long are folk going to lament that it isn't so?
All I'm saying is I understand why HALO: Reach won't be compatible. The FreddyvJason and Gremlin games are irrelevant IMO, as they are board games and not even clix-style games.
I'd like HrC back. But unless they bought alot of licenses, and made the dials HC competitive and compatible, it will fail again.
You need a reason to cause HC players to buy it. That its a great game on its own was simply not enough to save it. It wont be a second time.
As for Halo -- I think that too will flop again. We will see.
"And I shall make little coins with my head on them and place them in the thongs of your strippers."
Now with Haloclix you're dealing with another problem -- you have a strong external IP, but you have to answer the question of "Why wouldn't I just play Halo?"
I used to ask the same question of CoH/CoV Clix. But it also comes down to why read an Iron Man comic when you can see an Iron Man movie? Some people love the Marvel Universe and want to get it in as many different forms as possible. Makes sense.

Agreed. While there was a lot of "tongue in cheek" references made to different properties, direct licensing would be nothing but a boon shoudl Horrorclix return.
Fortunately, NECA seems pretty solid in that arena.

I both agree and disagree with this statement.
I totally agree that it was a great game, and that HC players should be enticed towards it through marketing, design, etc...
I disagree, though, that Horrorclix's success should be directly tied to its popularity with HC players. Horrorclix enjoyed its own popularity and player base outside of existing clix players, and would so again (if the licensing issue were addressed) on its own merits IMO.

I think, before we needlessly dismiss this as a "flop", that we must first identify the goal of such a release. If it is simply to capitalize on the release of HALO: Reach and will consist of a few different "Classics"-styled battle packs, then it seems to be more of a short term gain sort of thing. If it does well for them, cool. I know I'll be buying them.
If, however, this is part of a larger long-term HALO revival strategy, I hope WK plans on marketing it as such and is looking at the compatibility issues. Otherwise, I think, again in the long term, it could very well be a "flop".

If having been in a comic is the sole criteria, then Pope John Paul should be clixed. So should Care Bears. This line of argument is really disingenuous though. Anyone being intellectually honest can see the difference between shared universe superhero comics and promotional Kool-Aid Man comics.
Also, though it probably doesn't even need to be said, VGA is wrong. HALO is not part of the Marvel Universe. just because Marvel publishes a book doesn't make it part of the MU
There was a Robocop III you know (so don't be racist)

OTherwise we should get STark Trek, Star wars and Beavis and Butthead.
Clearly

Yep. This.
You can license a property all day long. I don't think that anyone would genuinely argue a similarity between Sonic the Hedgehog and Spider-Man insofar as media is concerned.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
I would single handedly eliminate the Taliban and Al Queda if someone told me I could get Star Trek and Star Wars figures for clix. If I could get the Universal monsters I would overthrow the evil governments of North Korea and Myanmar.
I want these clixed: Doc Savage, Fu Manchu, Tarzan, The Shadow, The Green Hornet & Kato, Conan, Solomon Kane, The Phantom, King Kong, Universal Monsters, Black Orchid, Manhunter (Paul Kirk), Xemnu the Titan, unclixed Kirby Fourth World characters, and Lilith, Daughter Of Dracula.

Now THAT is dedication to a cause.
I salute you sir!

Bottomline, if they want to make every clix-based game compatible, fine. Call it "Pop Culture Clix" or something like that. Cram in all the random '80s properties you want. Cram in whatever cereal box "icons" you see fit. Have Herman Munster lead the Care Bears into battle with Scarlet Witch providing PC. Fine.
If this happens, I will simply have to find a venue comfortable with letting Heroclix be reserved for...well...HEROES (of the comic book variety, as the game was originally designed).

See, this actually makes a modicum of sense. There is no reason precluding a larger Clix Universe (hey, could that be the name? I call Royalty rights!) wherein different event formats exist.
That way folk who only want to play one brand or line, can do so with the expectation that they will only be faced with pieces from their game of choice.
Likewise, there could other events that draw from the larger pool of clix figures available in the Clix Universe.
Seems to me to be the best of all worlds; everyone gets what they want and no one is left having to play a game they do not want to.
