So i guess what Ben is saying in #10 is, WK has a point formula but evidently it doesn't work right for special powers or traits. And it must not work even for combinations of regular powers, because a 19 def or 14 move or HSS or super senses or shapechange or stealth might equal something independently, it seems they should equal something altogether different when together (coupled with two extremely strong special powers and an extremely strong trait no less).

I believe the point cost is fine. Nightcrawler is not a power fighter but strongly effective because of his teleportation. He only has two clicks of hypersonic! With a whopping 2 damage. Look at Inertia, he's 87 points. Hypersonic 2 damage and nerfs hypersonic. Intertia's special is a unique power such as Nightcrawlers BAMF!.

I believe power traits that are unique to that character shouldn't be charged a exorbitant point value, such as Nightcrawler's special power. It's what he DOES.

I don't think Wolverine should be charged for blades/claws at full price. Wolverine and his claws are one. Unlike Gamora that uses knives and swords.

That's just my two cents.

See, that's some God-awful writing IMO. Any book which features Spider-Man, of all people, sneaking up on Charles Xavier is lousy. Toss in taking down the X-Men by himself, and you've got a steaming pile of.....something.....certainly isn't decent reading material.

Great Dial! Very much the Nightcrawler we all know and love. But he really should have been 40 or 50 points more expensive. Much like OotS Batman, Namor, Dr Strange, SI Spiderman and a few others escaping my mind at the moment, he's simply too powerful for his point cost.

Great job though. Not your fault Wizkids is having so much trouble with point formulas since the advent of Special Powers. I mean for every Nightcrawler or OotS Batman there are twice as many pieces vastly over priced for what they do, almost every grounded brick they've ever made for instance.

Nightcrawler is exhibit A for the argument that super fans of a particular character shouldn't be allowed to design said character. He's a plastic love letter that elevates a minor X-Men character to the status of "must use" or "must prepare for".

Sigh.

I don't get the Ben-Hate...I applaud his efforts. He designed a, IMO, perfect Nightcrawler. I have nothing but love for this figure.

I am in agreement with those that think this figure is game changing and undercosted though. Still love me some Kurt though.

My thoughts exactly, though presented much more eloquently. There is only a handful of people in the Dreams and Desires forum that I would even consider approving of for designing an actual dial for the game.

Sorry, there's no two ways about it. I could write a 2000 word essay explaining why Sersi should be 350 points and have an 11 click dial with traited Impervious -- doesn't make it a good design.

You have very odd cents. Do you really believe that two figures with completely identical dials should have different costs because of their name?

There is some merit to this argument. Not that I agree with you fully, but I think that in the future Wizkids is likely to impose greater restrictions on World Champion dial designs, just to avoid situations like the one we're in now.

Honestly, if it means we don't get seventeen threads with forty six pages each about how awful or not-awful said character is, then it's fine by me. Can't wait till NCRealms goes back to HCRealms.

That said, I'm glad that Ben was afforded such a unique opportunity. The results really are amazing. Whether they're good or bad is another issue.

But congrats, Ben. Cherish your design and don't let anyone spoil your passion for the game. We who are about to get crushed by Nightcrawler salute you!

True, but honestly have any of those "sky is falling" conditions garnered as much discussion, fear, and polarization as this one? (aside from when the game died, of course)

The point is that the new NECA seems very intent on listening to fan response and reacting. I'd say there has been considerable fan reaction to the power creep in newer sets, and I wouldn't be surprised to see some kind of response. In fact, with the "silver bullet" bandaid characters, I'd say we're seeing some already.
