You might be forgetting with the exception of Heroclix, those are all one time use things. Once you buy Heroclix, they don't go away. You own them, you can actually do... whatever you want with them. You can't drink them (Well, it's difficult) or eat them... well... you COULD eat them it's just not recommended. But unlike a video game which is extremely ephemeral, your heroclix are an investment in your continued fun for quite some time. The MMO will run 5-8 years and be done, all your work will be gone with it. But 10 years from now you can still bust out the clix and play a game.
So... not really a fair comparison there. Perhaps if you had to lease beer that might work... but I don't think they'd really want it back at the end.
It is all a personal preference, people will spend their money on what interest them. Some people just like video games while others can settle for other things in life.
Anyways, back to dc universe online discussion.
I am currently level 22 and just finished defeating John Stewart(yes I am a villain) and Mr. Freeze, I am currently working on getting level 30 and going on raids and getting the iconic armor etc.
I also want to make a hero soon. But I have yet to think of a classy name :P
I assume you don't know much about the game, because there is no "beating" an MMO.
I know enough that if the game came out for the 360 IT WOULD BE MORE FUN and just like City of Heroes/Villains it's main quest will have an end and you'll be spending most of the time completing side quest until DCUO 2 comes out in 3-5 years

Actually, it is a fair comparison. I see people all the time buy a booster for what they "might" get, even though they have the set. Furthermore, most boosters fail to retain even half their value (DC 75th was probably a bit of an exception though) in resale. So, yeah, "pissing away your money" is in the eye of the beholder, really.
As for DCU...it does look really good, the more I hear. Though, no body sliders is kind of disappointing. I get that less models means easier processing, but more than three per sex might've been wise.

Not sure why you think this or what it has to do with anything, but since you said it in all caps it must be true

You're just reinforcing that you don't really get MMO's.
Whats the "main quest" in CoX? I played it for 5 years and I couldn't tell you what it is.
Is it the TF where you fight the Arachnos bosses and their giant spider thing? Is it the praetorian boss arc? Is it beating Hamidon? Is it the epic AT storyline?
Even if a game has a "main quest", you don't "beat" it.You'll wind up doing it repeatedly for drops.
You're conceptualizing it like a console game. It's less about completing quests than is getting stuff and getting more powerful. The activity of these games is less a narrative and more optimizing a toon.
Many veteran MMO players will tell you that the game begins at level cap, after you've done everything. Thats when you can start getting to work
.
There was a Robocop III you know (so don't be racist)
i was not planning on getting this game because of the fee...then i had enough credit to get it at gamestop...then i saw that it came with one free month to play...then i figured, "hey why not? if i play it alot for that one month, ive still played it more than some other games and i can always trade it in"...then i played it...now i plan to keep playing it paying the fee
i figure if more people would just give the game a fair chance they would find it to be really fun, sure there are some bugs, buts its a new game it happens. ill admit when i started the game up, i really didnt have much hope for the game, but then i actually played it. my only gipe about this game is that it took 15 gigs of memory from my ps3
ps, if anyone wants to add me my PSN ID is TheDarkJediX, just send a message saying you are from the realms and ill add you
This game just keeps getting better and better! It rules!
Yeah it does!

Note: You can do at least some raids a heck of a lot earlier than 30. At least that's the way it was in the beta; they were tiered and unlocked as you went.
