I got Settlers of Catan from my wife for my birthday. It was completely out of the blue. Considering she's not into strategy games, it was very sweet of her to do the homework to find a quality lesser known game and then hunt one down for me. On top of that, she played the game with me Sunday night. Only one of my buddies showed up for geek night last night so I showed the game to him. It's pretty basic in terms of game play, but pretty complicated in terms of strategy. Very cool game.

Yeah, it's not checkers, battleship, candyland, monopoly... You generally have to go to a hobby shop to find it in the US, (though Barnes and Noble started selling it a few years ago)
Personally, it's one of my less preferred board games because it has the Monopoly principle where one player is pretty much guaranteed a loss from the beginning of the game once you get past 3 players, and considering it's designed for up to 6, that's always bothered me.
But obviously that's just how I feel about it. It's pretty much king of the hobby shop board games. Still, really cool to get surprise nerd stuff!

We may be talking about slightly different versions. The one I know and love is designed for 4 players, but can be played by 3 in a pinch.

I believe that the standard game of Settlers of Catan is meant for 3-4 players. There are expansions that allow for gameplay between 2, 5, or 6. I have only played the standard version, so I don't know a whole lot about the expansions.

Wow, rep really is gone. How about that? No more virtual bragging around here. Looks like the rep farmers finally caused rep to implode and disappear! LOL!!!

(quick try to rep yourself, see what happens. Then go to a buddy's public profile...)

I tried repping myself, but I could not.
I repped you and it seemed to work. However, when I went to your public profile I didn't see any rep.
Is that what you meant?
