You know what? Reddragon didn't lose this thread. Reddragon WON this thread. It's been quite some time since I've been this entertained reading someone's posts on the realms. Thanks hoss!
Well actually RedDragon might have a point here.. With the exception of love (I would never view my love as an opponent, maybe my feelings). What Sun Tzu wrote was a set of principles to take to any environment with an opponent. As long as there is a perceived opponent standing in your way, then The Art of War can be applied. Once my college business organization professor assigned the art of war as required text. Now the question is: Does Sun Tzu have a place in collectible miniatures battling. Without getting caught up in this dispute, one-side has a point there is an opponent and a war like environment is occurring. However on the other hand, games are facilitated by the store and ran by appointed judges and in the end of the day it's the store and the judge who set the tone of the enviroment.
Like, OMG!
Boy, I sure have pissed off a lot of people lately on the interwebs. Sorry to all.
What about calling them "Papillomas?"
If you are treating heroclix, LOVE? like a competition as in WAR? you must have some deep seeded issues going on. Did I play you the other night? Nooooo, you are much crazier.
i'm sorry you have use personal attacks to get your point across. but it is no matter let hercules himself do what he may. for the cat will mew & the dog will have its day.
all i'm saying is respect everyone. ELE! everybody love everybody! you worry about your fun. let him worry about his fun. if you feel you can't. do you do something about it. don't be a behind closed door type of guy. & get the person banded. make a meta team kick his teeth down his throat. shake his hand. & in a polite voice say, now was that fun? we can do this every week or we can have fun.

Reason: there fixed it sorry fast texting
Sun Tzu also lived in a time where men raped and pillaged and if a boy was caught playing with a little toy he would be beaten severely.
Let's just hope that in this day and age, we could play a GAME with civility.
You must be mistaken. This day in age, men also rape and pillage... Just because you repackage violence in a more modern context, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Holy carp! The last part of your post actually made sense to me! Minus Hercules and cats wewing? and dogs barking, I actually liked that last part. Oh wait, that would make me look like just as much of a jerk!
Darn! Try again Reddragon.

hahaha you gotta back a point with something more substantial. It might seem childish to bring academic backing into such a trivial conversation but at the same time it's childish to begin a thread with serious intentions, only to decide not to put in an earnest effort in testing your ideals.
When the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, there will be one man breathing Dragon fire and snorting Goat breath, with the cats wewing and dogs mooing, coming out from behind closed doors with the Art of War in hand, pages cindered from blazen touch........................................................RED DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a love of reading could help you here, it shakespeare. here let me dumb it down for you. whatever whatever i do what i want!!
So we've got this guy who treats every game as if it's game 7 of the World Series. He takes everything too seriously to the point where if he loses he ends up pouting and pissing & moaning about the loss for the next week and if he wins, it further boosts his ego and makes himself feel superior to all. The other night I called him out on it in the middle of a match after he decided that talking trash to me was the cool thing to do. It wasn't so I let him know. I let him know that because of his over competitiveness, people don't like playing with him and it makes for a very unenjoyable experience. I told him that he should just play to have fun, whereas he responded with "I play to win." Basically what I told him left him even more pissed off, and I felt that what I told him went in one ear and out the other. AARRgghhh.
The problem is that he is one of the original players of our group and I don't want to alienate him. How would you deal with a player like this? Have you had similar experiences? Please share.
I can relate in that I play someone who plays ultra conservatively(turtle), never purchases new figures, and uses god knows how many Feats he has to in order to win. It's annoying on every level but at the end of the day it's a game that we are all supposed to be having fun playing. If you get sick of playing that particular player then take a break playing with him or altogether for a while and come back to it with a fresh perspective.
On another note, if you know how he plays then you can more easily crush them as you'll be able to count on their routine strategy.
I'm really hoping there's a huge amount of alcohol involved here.
Anyway, nobody likes to lose, but then again there are objectives other than just "I defeated your army with mine." There's pulling off a weird trick, learning something new, etc. Just because you lose the battle doesn't mean you lose the war. Besides, losing a friendly game for fun should be just that, fun. If it's not fun, nobody really wins.
