Yup. There was a poll done on which Olympic event was most outdated that my local radio station used for a trivia prize giveaway. Table Tennis was the answer. Other sports they should get rid of: Ice Dancing, synchronized swimming, and Oscar Pistorius. Also, they need to add Free Running and street Luge.

He came and checked out my TV on the 8th, taking the bad part and 245 dollars from me (200 for the part, 45 for service diagnostics). He said he would call the next day to let me know about ordering the part. That was a Sunday (July 8th). I didn't hear from him come that Thursday, so I called him. He said the part would be 215, but he would wait to get the extra 15 from me. He also said the part was out of stock and he was waiting for the company to email him when it would be available. He said he would try to order the part again Friday morning.
This is 5 PM Thursday (July 12th) we're having this conversation.
7 PM Thursday (same day), I find a TV for 600 dollars that is 55 inches, 1080p LCD. Since my TV is almost 6 years old, I would rather take the money to buy new instead of repair. I call him back to cancel, letting him keep the 45 dollars for his time and service. I explain what I found and how I feel about it all. He then gets very hesitant and says "I ordered the part about an hour and a half ago." Despite telling me he wasn't going to order it until the next day on account that the part wasn't even in stock yet. I commented about this, saying "You said you weren't ordering it until tomorrow because it wasn't in stock." He said that after we got off the phone, he tried to order the part and it was available.
Since he just placed the order, I told him to try to cancel it, and if there was a cancellation fee, I would pay it. He said he would see what he could do and call me back.
Having not heard anything from him by Saturday (July 14th), I call and leave a voicemail asking him to call me back. Tuesday (July 17th), I still haven't heard from him. So I call again and get his voicemail. He does return my call finally, and he informs me that he is waiting for the company's supervisor to make a decision on the cancellation since orders are automated. He said he will contact me when he knows something.
He calls me on Friday (July 20th) and tells me that they will cancel the order, but I have to pay a restocking fee of 107 dollars. At this point, I'm furious. I tell him to order the part and then when it comes in, tell me and I will pick it up. He comments that it will be a little over 300 total for his services, and I say that I'm not having him fix my computer at this point. He can have the 245 + 15 extra (with proof of sales purchase for the part) and I will take the part and fix the tv myself. He's not happy with this and starts to tell me that I was the one who agreed to him repairing my television but then tried to back out.
At that point, I went off on him. I explained how he said he would contact me and didn't, then he told me he would have to wait on ordering the part but lied to me about that. I asked him to keep me informed on the things that were happening, but he didn't. I said he was not returning my calls in timely manners. He lacked professionalism and customer service, and I was done with him. He then agreed with some of what I said and also agreed to my terms. He then mentioned some weird remark about how he respects me and that I'm not a "stupid redneck." He says he'll call when the part is in.
On July 24th, still having heard nothing from him about the part, I call once again and leave a voicemail for him to call me. It's now July 28th, and I haven't heard anything from him. So I started checking for his mailing information (since I will need it if I have to have him served). I came across his public records, and he's a registered sex offender in Chouteau, Oklahoma (about 10 minutes from my home town).
My dad is a volunteer deputy at the Mayes County Sheriff's Office (Chouteau is in Mayes County). My dad is also in good with the Sheriff's Office. I can get the information I need to take this man to court. And if it has to go to court, I'm getting my 200 back (plus court costs).
So it's more than just a "my TV isn't working" thing. Seriously though, for the repair amount alone(part+service), you can get a 25-inch flat screen, larger if you find the right store or website. Sorry for your troubles Kenny. If it makes you feel any better, I spent about $500 total last summer because a computer repair shop made the wrong diagnosis on my computer. Oh well, I have a bunch of spare parts in case anything craps out.
And now, I must go get dressed. I get to go to a wedding at a ranch.
Whoo, I got last post in the old thread before the closing post!
Also: From what I've heard about the opening ceremonies... I really need to watch it. Apparently it involves James Bond, corgis, David Bowie, Voldemort, Rowan Atkinson, a speedboat, The Prodigy, Mary Poppins, the Queen, and someone swears they heard the TARDIS noise during one of the musical pieces.
Those Brits, they actually do have a sense of humor. Stiff upper lip and all. My daughter watched and she said it was pretty good. Yes, it had Voldemort, Mary Poppins and other Disney characters, the Queen and a whole bunch of other stuff. Hoping I can catch it somewhere online.
Just curious, I know Quebbs and Mags run allstars, but does anyone do a contest of champions? Not the mods' submitted roles, but all the winners of the games. Could be fun. And as my current game can't get signups, I may need to do something else.
I think mal wanted to do something like that last year, but it never got off the ground.
Don't you have Galactic Guardians and Chaos Wars Clix Mafias to do anyway?

It seems that everyone who's had TV repair done has a horror story to match it. It's pretty much convinced me that when mine goes, I'm going to be buying new.

Hi everybody, sorry I've been AWOL for so long. I was away in London with no internet access but my phone (wasn't going to try managing a game on my phone) and having returned I've had the worst bout of sickness for about 6 or 7 years (really horrible fever, gastroenteritis and insomnia -- basically been lying on my bathroom floor for the past 3 days). I'm still not 100% and I'm going to Formentera (Spanish island) tomorrow for 10 days.
Basically just a head's up that Marvel Mafia is on hold, but is certainly not abandoned. When I am back in my homestead and in full health it will return!
