Managed to get in a game of the first "Living Fiction" scenario, "The Battle of Two-Rock", this weekend. Lots of fun. Its a victory point scenario so killing your opponents force isn't necessarily the best way to go about winning. Some of the Gudanna forces start near the Durani side of the map, controlling the gates into the city of Two-Rock. The remaining Gudanna start on the far side and are reinforcements that are arriving to help defend the city from the Durani siege. Deployment zones are tight for the Gudanna, so they often have to deploy part of their forces after the game starts and when their initial forces move off of the deployment areas...coming in as even more reinforcements.
In addition, each side also receives an optional in game quest part way through the scenario. You can ignore the quest or take it. Taking the quest diverts some of your forces away from the battle, but will yield rewards if you complete it.
The scenario is still available for a couple of more days. If you have GA, make sure you get in a game of Two-Rock before its complete. If you don't have it, see about tracking down a FLGS and/or Emissary to show you how it works. Once the allotted time passes, results will be totaled which will drive the next chapter of the story.
So will you side with the Durani Empire and try to take the city of Two-Rock, thereby ensuring the Empire has a vital path to the Gudanna territories? Or will you fight with the Gudanna Dominion in protection of the city? And if you fight for the Dominion, will it be for the Spider Prince and his network of spies or for his half-sister, the Princess Nandanna, who promises to keep the Dominion intact...whatever the cost.

According to the HeraldofEretsu twitter feed, the Gudanna forces were able to repel the Durani invaders and even managed to fell a few Jagara colossi during the conflict!
No word yet if forces loyal to the Spider Prince were able to retrieve the spy and the info he carries or if he was captured by Princess Nandanna's troops.
Next up in the story arc... The Caves of Matis!

Led by Luja and her brother Murkha, the Durani launched a massive assault on the City of Two Rock. The assaulting force brought with it an unheard of number of Jagara to ensure their victory. Raga Dasra sent this mighty host to flank the Gudanna castles of the line that protect the Dominion’s northern border to aid the Empires invading armies.
When the Durani descended on the city through a mountain pass, the Gudanna at Two Rock were caught unprepared and took heavy losses in the initial attack. The Durani, inspired by their early victories, tried to make the most of their advantage by speeding the advance of their Jagara with the Rooted Road relic.
The Durani’s early success in the battle was not to last, however. A daring Gudanna commander equipped his War Sprites with the Great Sigil of Suffering, sending them deep into the Durani lines as suicide bombers. The sacrifices of the Gudanna Knights were not in vain, as they they sowed chaos and death through the Durani ranks.
As the rear lines of the Durani descended into chaos, the Gudanna defenders rallied, bringing the the force of their vengeance down upon Murkha, who was leading the forward assault from his Jagara. With Murkha’s death, the Gudanna had solidified their advantage in the battle.
The fighting at Two Rock did not stop there. In all, the Durani would lose four more of their prized Colossi and over 380 other golems before the siege on the city was broken. At the end of two weeks of fighting in the streets and on the walls of the city, however, the banners of the Gudanna Dominion still fly above Two Rock.
The outcome of the battle of Two Rock was not the only act of historical significance. Warriors from both sides were faced with tasks not directly tied to taking the city.
During the battle, Raja Khan Archa who had followed a suspect in the Great Khans murder to Two Rock was separated from his companion Yuvaka as the battle started. Yuvaka was discovered to have been found behind the Durani lines. Learning of this, a loyal follower of Rudatha, managed to make it to Yuvaka’s location, however, he was not alone in rescuing the young warrior. Seeing the plight of Yuvaka, a Golem knight loyal to Nandanna, disregarded her order to capture the warrior and turn him over to her, and instead helped Rudatha’s Knight secure Yuvaka’s freedom.
In addition, the Durani courier carrying gold bound for the Mercenary King Vanya barely made it out of the city. Laghu Chandrisetra the Pauper and his Jeweled Harpy’s fate was unsure until the final moments of the battle with rumors of his demise preceding his unexpected arrival.
Data highlights from the battle coming soon…
The data info should be pretty neat to see.

Played part two of the current three-part storyline event (The Battle of Two Rock was part 1). This one is called "The Caves of Mahtis" and if you want to see a really funky, really fun map layout, check out this picture! Red squares were my deployment zones and white squares were Alex's.

This was for the latest two week storyline event that finished last Wednesday. Because of the app, the company is using the stats collected to drive the storyline. And you get some nice little tidbits of interesting info to boot!
Imagine if something like this could have been done for the No Man's Land storyline and the gang war that supposedly went on during that campaign?

New update was posted. It includes a save game feature (Can't finish your game? Save it and you can rebuild it later exactly where you left off!) and a very intuitive scenario builder. Now you can create your own custom maps and victory conditions. Nice!

Lords of the Line, the final part of the first "Living Story" arc just completed this past Wednesday. Today, HBS put out a blog post with the results and stats.
Some interesting info...

...Vanya’s Untamed planted traps for them across the battlefield. Placing both poisonous traps and snares proved to be incredibly effective, and 96 powerful Gudanna Knights were felled by poisonous spore traps alone.
These were hidden "encounter" squares. You didn't know where they were on the map until you walked into them. I hit them a couple of times and they were annoying!

While both the Durani and Gudanna accepted the terms of using the smugglers’ route during the battle, the Gudanna truly made the most out of the opportunity, sending almost half of the assembled horde through the smugglers’ tunnels.
A random encounter that cropped in-game. You had to make a choice on whether you accepted the smuggler's offer or not. If you were playing Gudanna and accepted, they showed you a "short cut" route to the castle.
Stats from the battle:
Quote
Gudanna won the battle, winning 53% of the games played over the five weeks that we collected data on Lords of the Line. However, the night before the event ended, both sides were in a statistical dead heat. It was only in a surge of games in the final day that the Gudanna were able to secure their victory, winning all but two of the games played in the final day.
Quote
Only 40% of players declared their loyalty to the Princess, however she was the overwhelming favorite during the decisive last day of play.
Quote
the majority of players attempted to help the civilian escort for both the Gudanna and Durani. The Gudanna in the end attempted to help more, but only by the actions of a single player.
Quote
The Durani gate was blown open 63 times, while the Gudanna gate was only forced open 54 times.
As I said before, I love that these kinds of stats are collected and shared. It really helps you feel like you are impacting the world!

My LGS ordered a good bit of Golem Arcana when it first became available at the distributor level, and not a single box of it has sold. It's kind of depressing really.

That kinda seems like a lot of work. I work at my store, and it'd be adding an extra thing I have to do twice a month. I'd be all for it if a customer in the store were willing.

Well, only if you call playing games and getting free stuff "work".
Unlike with HC, the folks that make GA are encouraging their emissaries to play in their events. They understand that we all got into this because we like to play games.
Emissaries gain points for running events and can use those points to buy product from the GA webstore. That's a pretty nice perk. Maybe talk to one of your friends/local players and see if they'd be interested if you don't feel you can do it.

Very interesting discussion on the first storyline series. Some lore, some data, some upcoming things, some "backend" stuff. Its a good insight into how this game is more than just the miniatures on the map.
