X-Wing literally count not release ships every month.......they can barely release ships 1-2 waves a year. They have MUCH less to work with. Many players (but I would not say the majority) didn't like the Hwks inclusion or any of Wave 4. If they could have put out more, while keeping up their quality they would have.
I would say it is not so much ship selection as it is production capacity. There is no way they could make enough ships to keep up with demand if they had to make monthly releases. Wave 3 has a reprint being shipped out now, while the A-wing and Interceptor have ANOTHER rerprint at the printers at the moment. I honestly wouldn't doubt part of the delay for the Aces pack was a combination of Chinese New Years, and having to make more due to preorders coming in much higher than expected.
I do think the game model of X-wing encouraging more ships offsets the release schedule of Attack Wing. I am curious to see if Wizkids is going to try an ape the Capital Ships. I'm sure they would love to seel $60-$90 models.

Well FFG could double, triple, or even quadruple the amount of factories making their product, if they A) wanted to B) thought it was a solid long term sustainable option and C) would have enough product to put through them now and down the line.
What FFG can't do is make up stuff that their fan base would not recognize. Wave 4 and the Hwk caught flack (not from me, the Hwk didn't excite me but I like new ships) already and most of us know them. Completely new ideas........ :shudder:
So I disagree with you there.
Having said that, ignoring that it's not possible, if they could put out ships per month I'm sure they would sell some where in the same ballpark (less of an particular expansion but probably somewhere in the same overall units)........but that's just speculation.
I think the release schedule FFG is using for X-Wing is near perfect for them (a little quicker would be my preference, but I understand) and is buying them time until SW:Rebels and the SW:VII-IX (if they feel it would be well received) while at the same time allowing their individual expansions to sell a lot.
It is almost upon us! Are you prepared for the Quarmageddon?
No doubt, the EU stuff isn't as popular. Which is why I believe they will mix Repaint/booster releases for the movie ships along with the Waves. We will see if Wave 5 uses Rebels stuff, but they have a few more EU waves in them before they are dumpster diving the EU, which they are willing to do.
Which is hit and miss with some of the vocal players, but it seems to have stimulated local play areas with players who would not have been interested.
They seem to have achieved their goal from most reports we are hearing.......we'll have to hear their first year #s for a better idea though.
where are these supposed reports of which you speak??? I certainly haven't seen a sudden influx of people suddenly wanting to play AW because of the addition of "blind" boosters. In fact, I have seen quite the opposite opinion.

However, I really think people are "Chicken Little"-ing this thing far too much. I cannot for the life of me reasonable believe that WK would change the model of this game from non-blind to blind.
Is it possible that we may see sealed/constructed hybrid appear in OP events in the future with more blind content? Yes.
Will blind content become the norm for expansions? No.
The non-blind format for this type of game has been proven by X-wings success and AW's success thus far, IMHO. They have solicited out thru October with non-blind content for AW. D&D is solicited out thru December in a non-blind format.
Yeah, cause its not like we have seen Wizkids over and over again choose to damage their product quality, or go down avenues that we never thought they would, in pursuit of the almighty dollar. There is absolutely no reason to add "blind" to this product what so ever. If venues want to run a blind sealed tournament, they can simply do what was apparently done at the con and throw a bunch of ships in a box and have people pull. Its naive to think that Wizkids couldn't possibly be testing the waters for future blind product releases.

so anyone can just walk into your venue and buy one?
This statement; and the fact that business sense, common sense, and logic do not seem to be abundant with Wizkids; is the reason I could see Wizkids going to blind boosters. X-Wing does not have exclusive ships for tournaments, and yet Wizkids does.

This part of the conversation is not about 'blind boosters' it is about LEs.

I think what DS is referring to is early into Dominion War, Wizkids allowed venues to purchase a spare DS9. I do not know about his venue, but our venue allowed me, as the judge, to purchase that spare DS9 through them. The venue did this because Wizkids made it impossible for a judge to get the grand prize unless they played in the tournament which I have always felt creates a conflict of interest.
10 pack brick with flat rarity = 2 of each of the 5 ships
$15 MSRP suggested
Suggested format is 90 points prebuild fleet; add 30 points from the blind booster.
Stores DONOT have to buy the brick to run the OP. They can choose to leave off the blind booster element.
So maybe it's just me but I cannot for the life of me see the down side. Everyone who is fearful about blind boosters and how they will negativeley impact their store's tourney scene can just make sure the players know they will NOT be using this format and everyone is happy.
I dig it. I still get to use the stuff I bought previously, and it sounds like they're using my pre-built sealed idea.
Just hoping I don't care too much about the sealed vessels, so I'm not driven to try and collect them.
75% constructed and 25% from blind seems like a good balance.
Now we just have to see how balanced the 5 ships are toward one another. That is the only factor that could cause this to be a NPE IMHO. As long as these 5 ships were created with this event in mind and play tested by Andrew and Chris as usual, I have little to be concerned about.
I guess for me it still just boils down to what the ships actually are, but this little snipit:

almost makes it sound like they'll be reused sculpts, but with new cards. If that's true, and it gets us a second version of some ship classes that we already have, especially LE-only ships like the D'Kora or the Nebula, then I'm all for it.
If that's going to be the case, then I'd like to see a D'Kora, Nebula, D'Deridex, Vor'Cha, and Galor. That puts the D'Kora and Nebula in wider circulation, and gives us more options for the widely used Romulan, Klingon, and Cardassian ship classes.
The one downside I see to the 90:30::constructed:sealed format is that it basically rules out faction-pure playing, but the flipside is that it increases the build total to 120, which I would prefer over 100. It also further reinforces the idea that the brick ships should be roughly equal to one another, since they'll be required for a chunk of your build.
