From any ID card:
"Setup - At the beginning of the game, choose a character on your sideline with a name or real name matching this ID Card and turn it to a starting line. This character is called an ID Character. You can't have more ID characters on your force than you have characters placed on the map at the beginning of the game. This card is Unique."
So there is precedent that non-characters can be officially Unique.
The way I read it, possessors at 25 are no longer characters because of their specific language saying so, but nothing says they're no longer Unique.
Good call on the IDs, but without something stating otherwise, the silver ring doesn't give a unique status to anything but characters. We have a strong word indication of what the desired effect would be, but nothing in the rules at this time actually makes it so.
[C]If a standard character equipped with an item becomes a non-standard character due to a game effect other than an effect granted by the equipped item, the equipped item remains equipped, but the equipped character can no longer use the items equip EFFECT unless it becomes a standard character again.
EDIT: Of course there's really a couple ways of looking at that because it only addresses what happens if you become non-standard by another effect. It doesn't actually address what happens if you become non-standard by that item's effect.
I'll just assume that the unspoken implication is that it remains equipped and usable. That's the sane way.

Which is what the ruling was before "equip" came about so...consistency! :D
What we do in life echoes in eternity!
Respect is a given, only disrespect can be earned.
he would not count as a character for any other parts of force construction
This sounds like he would not count as a character for most parts of force construction, but this implies that he does count as a character at some point(when actually building the force.) I believe the unique status of possessors will be upheld.
I thought this change would do the opposite for entity prices
I'd doubt it.
The entities lost some minor things. They cannot be equipped with anything else. At this point, that is other entities/Jocasta, Pym Particles, and Hulkbuster pieces.
They gained the ability to go on any team without breaking the theme. (There's also the possibility that you can now use multiples, but I think the possibility of that actually working that way is really slim.)

Overall, I'd say they're better than they were.
Yep.
When this was first announced I thought it would include Contructs, but since it doesn't... Entities got a bit of a boon.

Not to me, anyway. I had a habit of running OMA's with an Entity attached for a +2 Theme. Kinda can't do that anymore.
"It is a fool's prerogative to utter truths that no one else will speak." "Prove you have the strength and courage to be free."

But the same effect still works to make a themed team.
I actually see your gripe as something which had been a problem with the narrative of the game. Yes, under the old rules what you had was technically a themed team, but narratively speaking you had, as you said, a One Man Army.
One guy does not make a team, even if he does have a tinted genie inside of him.

If you have a genie inside of you, wouldn't that still be a team? He's still another person helping you. Are you saying Aladdin and his genie weren't a team?
