I'll admit that their methods are foreign and not my preferred way, but I find I like rainbow lists just to get discussion going. It springboards a lot of theories. It's also an invaluable tool for info-gatherers who don't want to outright claim. If they die as town, we might have some info from their rainbow list.
To each his own and the Syndicate's general playstyle was very much a high learning curve for me with some players a bit more...abrasive than others. The style isn't without merit.
EDIT: I bet Grinner would feel good listing JoH as red.
Also, just want to clarify this since it sounds a bit accusatory and I don't mean it to. I think everyone should be participating more, not just Grinner, and that we've all played long enough and are good enough players to offer valuable insights.
I agree with this. I think there's two ways to play this game: like Monopoly or like Chess. The first is what a lot of people are guilty of. Making the same moves, taking the same turns, with little difference (or evolution) in strategy. Playing it like chess, where every game should teach you something about your own playstyle or your opponents', takes a lot more dedication and attention. Neither way is necessarily wrong (in the end these games are for fun. Period.) But the latter is definitely more engaging and eventually more fulfilling for everyone involved. There's no "right way" to play, but it's hard to enjoy chess when your opponent is playing monopoly.

It's so easy. Either "forgetting" to pay for a property when you land on it, or moving 10 spaces on a roll of eleven to miss out on a hefty rent. (I've got a sister who will adjust her movement +1/-1 when no one's paying attention to avoid landing 7 spaces away from a big rent space.)

I like this. I've come to find recently that I haven't really tried to improve my game at all. A genuine monopoly player. I was mainly just using Mafia as something else to take up my spare time. I also really enjoyed the "in-person" version of the game because I am really good at putting on a poker face and reading others. I've been around here a little while now, though, so I may as well start to try to up my game a bit.
I will say, modding was very eye-opening because I got to see how other players play/don't play. Not that I am going to compare notes between games or anything, but it was just interesting to see people make moves that I wouldn't think of, or wouldn't dare making.

I agree in concept and especially in most other games.
This one, I'm hedging my reads a bit being there's the whole "XP for posts" mechanic which, I feel, is going to really distort the sound to noise ratio. Picking the chaff vs seeing who's posting just for level-ups is going to be a tad more subtle than just context of one post.
Vote record is going to be more convincing to me than most posts.

I guess I'm just too honest, I never thought to try and get away with fudging the roll count. Mostly because I usually knew where someone should land on what roll, so I assume everyone has that ability.
1) Lynch people that refuse day 1 discussion, or dissuade it, or try to coast through joking. I think folks that refuse are trying to go under the radar as much as possible.
2) I dislike lynching on day 1 based off of weird posts. People that tend to jump on the slightest weird post tend to hurt the town more than help.
I'm not a fan of Day 1 lynches at all, but that's mostly because it seems completely unfair to somebody who gets a character that they never actually get the chance to play. Call me Mr. Terrific, but I'm interested in Fair Play.
That said, in a game with multiple characters or multiple life possibilities like this, it takes the sting out of that a bit. They may lose a character but don't have to completely leave the game.
The whole 'luck of the draw' pressure on Day 1 I guess should be expected to get a little information in order to stave off the bum rush. With a Day 0, I'm also more inclined to be fine with going after low posters.
I'll disagree with part of this, namely "takes the sting out because they have a back-up life".
First, your hinting aside - and why do that so early, especially since there are false claims? - it's not very fun for someone to lose any character. Maybe they're more attached to the first.
On a more important overall matter, it would really bite if that first character packed a great power and the second was...I don't know...vanilla with a one-shot.
Throw in the experience factour and that one life could be built up while the second starts back at square one and that's a bit more detrimental. Certainly enough so that I don't feel, "They have a back-up" is the mindset to be taking.
