If you ahve 16 players show up for an event, half of them have never appeared before, you have to devote floor space there so they can play. Most venues pay rent directly related to the amount of floor space the store has. Now, the whole point of having in store events is to promote play and boost sales of product. If non-of those players buys any product from the store, but buys it from another sotre or online. Do you think he would want people to take up space playing a game? For the players Faction war was wonderful, almsot everyone was able to walk away with an LE. But at the event, most venues did not see any increase in sales at all. I know at my venue not a single booster was bought, and the only MWDA related sale was some faction dice, mainly because a visiting players venue never had any.
I'm starting to see why we have not seen a repeat of this enormously popular event.
Still, I think WK and the retailer missed the boat on this one for these reasons:
1) Most players bought and bought to prep for this event.
2) All 3 venues I went to had lots of new brand new players.
3) It created a huge buzz.
It was all anybody talked about for 2 months. And this was at a low spot for MWDA. LI was a terrible expansion. 3 good mechs - the rest stunk. Artillery and VTOLs ran amok. Players were opting out of mechwarrior at an alarming rate.
Perhaps FW was too successful. Maybe it had too much prize support. Doing a monthly FW with limited prize support would blow the doors off the standard tournaments.
1. People who plays faction pure is not better than all-star players.
2. People who plays all star army do so because they like it.
- both sides of their points of view and both sides are valid, that's why we can have peace!
I don't admire faction purity, I don't despise all stars. I play whatever I feel like. Sometimes I want to use the BR scout, sometimes i want to use the Arnis, other days I like my HL mining mod. For Liao I love their ATV and Infiltrator!

now that's out of the way. the situation at warriorsage venue is highly irregular. I have send a message to wizkids for them to investigate! I agree with pkreynolds point of view. Hopefully this thread will be available for wizkids to see!
I already stated the old BM is gone, both of them, and I took over. That's old news now.
The venue is a very good one, and the owner has gone out of his way to provide product support OUT OF HIS OWN pocket in the way of discounts & store credit for the weekly scenarios when WK does not provide support.
For the next unsupported weekly event we're having I even put up my own new Geo as the prize and made flyers to give out, some of which players here have requested from me and I have sent them.
Anybody who's seen my scenarios, sound off here that I work to provide player and venue suppport!
What more can WK want? A good venue, a positive and helpful BM- what else do you need?

Uh were you there? If you were not, then you are going by hearsay and in no way have any business sending anything off to Wizkids. The appropriate people would be WarriorSage as he was a BM on site when it happened.
I do my utmost best to play Faction pure if I can...if not then I try to at least assemble a storyline logical force.
Ideally I'd be very happy if faction purity tournaments became commonplace, but I won't stop playing if it doesn't happen.
I went through a stage where I played a few severely mixed forces in tourneys and did have great success with them, yet somehow didn't get quite as much enjoyment as simply running a faction pure force and chancing a loss.
I've found that most of the flack one gets about either playing 'mechless or tank drop or chargers or artillery overkill...comes form those who've lost.
It's really a drag to beat a someone and they just whine about how my armies built or how I feilded it. I'm always the first to shake someone's hand and say, "good game" whether I win or not. I think being a good sport about all things is important.
When any one takes any game so seriously that there is hate mongering involved then I think it's time for that person to take a reality pill and check out.
Sure it's fun to get swept away in the story line and talk trash about the other guy's faction, but there's a lot of flame throwing that appears to go deeper than that.
I'm going to stand behind WarriorSage on this issue. Don't know if I'm a card carrying FP zealot but I think going along with the flavor of the game adds much depth and I most certainly prefer it. Win or lose. Just my opinions.
Do I look down on someone playing mixed up armies?
-No
Do I look up to those who play faction specific?
-Yes
For the sake of yourself and other players...have fun, or at least pretend you are.

Originally posted by pkreynolds It doesn't sound like it worked out for the guy playing Bannson's, though - he was refused the LE he should have been given for playing in the event.
Not that anyone would know, but did this Bannson's player sign up on WizKids as a Bannson's player, or as something else and just play Bannson's to get the LE?
If the former, then I kinda feel for him. If the latter, tough rocks.
I admit that on a very rare occasion, about 3 times in the last year, I mix my armies. 95% of the time I play RotS pure. But, on occasion I mix in some HL'ers.
Yeah...Highlanders. What do I use? Transports. RotS has one Cap 2 VTOL and it's an LE (Yes I have her) so I can only run one of them. So I use Shun's and J-37s (I just got my first RotS Zahn...last RotS unit that I don't have...Oh, I need that darn LE Locust too.)
Anyhoot...I would gladly vote for Faction Pure....it just makes (Fluff) sense.
You guys are sure making this a bigger issue than it should be. If you like playing pure faction go for it, if it help you enjoy the game more. If you like to play mix faction go for it, as long as you enjoy the game. As long as you don't put a gun to someone head or won't let someone play because they like to play pure faction or mix faction, do what makes you happy;) .

But would it not be more fun to have a regular Faction War type event? You kow like 600 point faction pure with 4 orders? Give it some minimal prize support and a little tie in to the fluff and it would be a huge hit. Check out the level of support for faction pure events in Warrior Sage's pool.
I'm not saying we need to eliminate the mongrel hth events. Some people love them and thats great. But give the purists a chance too. Around here, you must play all-stars if you you want to be competative.
