Just signed up. I'm new to MW though I played some Mage Knight and Heroclix when they first came out. I've bought some old boosters off of ebay and I'm waiting for them to arrive. I'm very interested in MW but I'm also an old time Battletech player from the days of first edition though I haven't seen any of the updates to the game since Citytech first came out years and years ago. I've dusted off my old Batteletech set and I'd like to try using the MW mechs, armor and infantry with the Battletech rules as well as learn the MW game.
Glad to find this site. Is there a list of the mechs, and figures from the various sets somewhere online?

Hello everyone, im kinda green to all this, so excuse my n00bness :)
I've never really got into any sorta miniatures before MW, although ive been a fan of the battletech universe since i saw the cartoon when I was 9 (1996 on trouble tv) and from there ive played most of the PC games since. My interest was renewed when I discovered those cartoons on youtube, when bored one night at uni. This led me to get up to date on the universe and check out the rumours of the movie and so forth. Anyways its been a re enlightenment, especially since I ordered the MW starter off ebay.
Currently im back in my home town and spreading the word amoungst my old friends who do (well did ;D) warhammer. Ive already got one convert. Hes jamp in at the deep end, and bought aload of the pre AOD boosters cheap. Also hes got connections to most gamers in the town, and is loving the game.
Also Im from the UK, ive had a lurk on other forums to see what brits are around, but its all looked pretty negative and the news is its supposedly in decline around here? I just wanna get a shout out to anyone from east anglia/fens or the north east of around newcastle (ill be back at the university of sunderland in september).
I have been playing for a few months now (again - tried Dark Ages way back when). I have loved all Battletech/Mechwarrior stuff since I was a kid. I'm having great fun playing both Mechwarrior and Solaris VII right now. I missed this thread when I first found the site, so I decided to come back and post an intro now. I'm a better player than I am on working the forum's.
Ppl at the venues that I have been playing at have been very nice and given me some nice Mech's to play and helped me understand the rules. I, jumped in head first, and bought Solaris VII Med, Davion Battle Force, and some boosters. I try to play faction pure - or faction pure + merc's because I think it is more realistic to the genre (also being a newbie I don't know what all the power pieces are yet so I'm just trying a bit of everything). I think I like playing Davion/Steiner the most - I have been playing the alliance card that lets me get 1 reroll, which lets me play new mechs with some of the older ones and still do well in games. I'm having so much fun I have been building and playing the other factions too.
I'm just playing the game - not collecting (Other than to have stuff to play - well I did hang a Zeus and a Griffin on my Christmas Tree because they are just such cool mechs). So since I am not collecting the game are there any rules that would stop me from repainting some of the figures? Along the same note I lost most of my old Battletech Books some years ago - What are the colors for Shadow Cats/Nova Cats. Can the lances, regiments, etc. have completely different colors than the supporting house(s)? I like the SC/CNC faction but the paint jobs are quite poor on some of them.
I'm also finding that I have way more gunslinger mech's than faction mech's, but way less merc's than faction non-mech's. So I find I can't build exactly what I want often. I see lots of the boosters for sale on ebay and places. Which sets are best for Merc pieces? I thought if I get enough Merc stuff I can fill in the gaps for any of the factions I wanted to play. I am going to buy a Gamma Set - I saw one the other day and it looked awsome, but I like to buy boosters too. Oh, and while I'm asking, which sets have the most Vtols? I only have a few of those but I want more. Oh, oh did one of the sets have all the AA stuff? If so which one? Did/do any of the mech's have AA abilities?
I just started playing Mechwarrior now, and this site looked like a good source of info and a nice community.
So far my mechwarrior collection consists of the AoD Starter and some random mechs from an AoD booster. I was wondering what should be my next MW investment. I have several options available to me based on the selection of my local shops.
1) Buy Dominion Boosters ~$10
2) Buy Solaris VII Light Action Pack ~$30
3) Buy Solaris VII Medium Action Pack ~$30
4) Buy Solaris VII Heavy Action Pack ~$30
5) Buy Solaris VII Assault Action Pack ~$30
6) Buy Undead Lance Action Pack ~$30
Are the action packs worth the money? More importantly, are they even useful? I've seen them online the MRSP is $25.
I am on a limited budget, so only one purchase will occur. (Either one of the action packs, or several boosters.)
What would be the best next purcahse for a person in my situation?
Hi all,
I was wondering what should be my next MW investment.
since your collection is still growing its roots, you should go for quantity. the light pack. but if you have funds available the battleforce sets are good for biulding.

The light pack gets you a good amount of units but i think the heavy pack is by far the best of the lot. If you are patient and good at finding deals you can find very nice lots on ebay that go for fairly cheap, but you have to be very vigilant.
Welcome new posters.
Welcome to the game and the 'Realms

For all the new players of MW.
If you're able check ebay. Some great deals there, but don't forget to read the descriptions. Don't want any player spending a tons of cash on FP Limted Edition figures that no one will use. Use www.warrenborn.com for the unit resources.
If you are able, get the Phantom War BattleForce set. Your local shop may be able to order it, or wait until you see a few on ebay. It's a solid set with mix of Mechs from differant weight classes.
Of the Solaris packs I like the gear out of the Medium and Heavy best. IMO the Heavy set has the most playable Mechs. The Champion Action Pack I has good gear cards and Mechs. Worth the price tag.
