Forgiven has not Alpha Strike, I use the SU CEC in his primary damage slot... 23 points more, but has worked very good for mee.
Regards !
HW
:) Ah, Mkay.... Not bad, especially on the second click in... A few chances to restart is nice too... Me, I've been running it with the RISC Advanced Pulse for much the same effect. Only got the 12 point shot off once so far, but it was sweet having a Light take down an Heavy in a single action effectively...
I haven't used much of the gear that came with this set as yet... Medium IT on the CW Griffin, Heavy Inferno Ammo on Reaver... I can see using AnP for the Warwolves or Summoner (Thor), but.... Of all that, the IT for me is just far more useful in any situation, and so the choice to use something else is... Well, if I get bored I guess :) Or if I know that there will be swarms of Gropos or something of the sort...
Anyone esle have any thoughts on the current gear crop?
well ejection pod or "close in weapon systems" ( a ballistic gear that come with an energy mech for crying out load) i doubt id use those.
haywire missiles could find its uses but only when you know it will help you (i d rather use HB then these)
Antipers/ Full strike could see some use in BR armies.
Anti Pers Pods on an assault, its not worth it in my opinion would rather use a coolant pod.
So like you i dont know really if there s anything exceptionally good.
so far i only been using IT and had gray hunter/reaver/carnivore with padilla,
either mechs with IT or added 2 srm and 2 purifiers.
it has a potential +3 to hit bonus for 1 target (and 3 out of 4 have 16") a 12 av carnivore can be scary heh. though army is pretty slow.
(do notice the warwulf mechs dont reach 23 dv easy (except with aiko or vaughn) nikki raddick and star captain are my personal choice for heavy pilots as is gwin for lights (dont have phelan kell)
Has anyone used Cleaver Violator yet in a 600 pt battle? I'm wondering what gears have been used, and how they performed. Right now, I'm considering:
Improved Targeting
Agility
Improved Myomer
and leaning towards Agility. I'm also trying to figure out what mech to pair Cleaver with. Something with 16" range is where I'm leaning, which can either be a Griffin or one of the Warwolves. The heavies all run around 300 pts with gears, and would only leave about 115 points of support, though that may be enough.
I've been trying to come up with a way to use Markus Kerensky's hamstring ability in Fell. Since it only applies to its Primary Damage value with range 12" it didn't seem too terribly useful unless you could get outside the target mechs front arc.
Then it occurred to me that because of the way range effects are applied, you could combine a range shortening Planetary Condition like Dust Storm with the Stormhammer-Steel Wolves Situational Alliance to really be able to lock down an opposing 'mech.
Works like so, Dust Storm makes the maximum range of all weapons 8". Because of how effects are applied, however, you can increase Fell's weapons range to 10" with the aforementioned situational alliance.
Fell stands at 10" of an opposing mech, and holds him at bay with hamstring, all the while your House Steiner Towed Thunder Launchers or Steel Wolf mortar squads pound on it.
I'd really like to try this combo in a 600 point game. Seems very fun if you can pull it off.
For large games, Fell with Julie Kolchak in Jack also makes a great combo.
Well, I pulled Cleaver and Reaver in a sealed 2 boosters game today.
I don't like reaver too much, not that good. I would much rather have a pure offense mech than a defensive mech seeing how the DV sucks.
Cleaver is just plain nasty, 1st game I was wreaking havoc intill a HK raven that I had charged had flamed me and I exploded for 5 dmg. Even though I had been hurt badly I was still able to crush the Raven and successfully charge his BR Vulture. The Vulture killed cleaver the next turn.
Won that game
Game two was against a person playing a CW Vulture as his main mech
Reaver was buisy fighting his 3 lightmechs (I had 2 other tanks also).
Cleaver charged the vulture and failed, I ended up only hitting the vulture once, but I fiery kissed it like 4 times. :p
won that game
Game 3 I just plain wooped on him
Did some charging with cleaver again here
The medium improved myomer is nice on her.
I'd say that cleaver is a really nice mech, though I am not extremely comfortable with the 21 DV. And the mech w/pilot is very cheap too.
So far I have 3 of the star, but will have 4 on tuesday. All's I'll need to get after that is Forgiven.

Try Extended Range Targetting on the Primary, increasing your range to 24" and granting you the three damage you require. From there, TTLs can take care of the rest.

You can not use Special Equipment when using Markus Kerensky's Hamstring ability.
when fielding warwulf reaver (thats the HB right?) i prefer using Nikki Raddick.
gives an optional 14 av at 16"
nice in combination with gray hunter-gwin , can have other units give a +3 av when in range.
(managed to accomplish this with an army fielding both mechs, a padilla and carnivore, with 2 purifiers and srm as support (though could drop them and equip both mechs with IT)
As it stood before my force ran a pretty pretty high win rating, the only probelm being the ability to take on the DF/SC All, with Hyper Laser running around, which I'm hoping to overcome that issue with the AA targeting and getting Lucky with Phelan to lock it down as always.

To me this force is somewhat shakey. It does not have a real counter to a light mech swarm (take Jade Falcon Phoenix Hawks with IT and Faction Pride as one example), or really high defense mechs, 24 w/ decoy could be a problem.
Armies built around abusing blocking terrain could also cause you problems.
You need at least some support for a the basing tricks that can be done in the game or to clear off opposing basers.
slayer might be a good replacement for one Thor (16"streaks with no damage penalty add perhaps some elec camo) i find the padilla a good support piece 1 targets Anti with 16"and AAMS.
just realized i have 2 WH Thors and a CW one aswell. from all the Warwulfs
though i prefer using Fell with Nikki (+1+2+1) their defense isnt that high. enabling a possible 14 av, 15 even if Gwin hits something)
might add c3i gear in an army above 600 (have l-m-h c3i) though prefer IT.
army i been fielding has one weakness ,energy attacks (aams doesnt work and most CW have reactive armor)
In my opinion, given the current Clan Wolf and Steel Wolf choices, if you are going to be including a heavy 'mech in your faction pure armies, Slayer + Vaughn Sender + Improved Targetting is the best choice.
11 attack with Improved Targetting, 23 defense, ignores blocking terrain, just an all around solid piece to build an army around.
Hi I know this may be the wrong place but I have hotseat with polit, and 2Gray Hunter with polit . I'm just looking for the Hard to get CNC Vixn if anyone has one. I have seen 3 cases openned and not a one. Thats all I need from this set.
