10 new subfaction abilities
EL
EF
DC
OK
BPR
AE
Shyft
Solonavi
Drac
and either LOA or Mage Spawn.
Remember this set has a relic that say a Mage Spawn can wield it. They're setting up for MAge Spawn. Also there is a relic that affects :Fist: damage types, who has a :fist: damage type?????
The Oracle and the Skymage look to be nons, I'm guessing that the Oracle is a Solonavi and the Skymage is BPR from the mechanical wings.
I think the Galeshi Sorcerer has set up the BPR to get some decent figs in this set. BPR needing to fight fire with fire, etc.
This looks REALLY cool!
Shall we speculate wildly on how spells and spell books will work?
Option 1: You pay X points for a spellbook. That spell book lets you use any four cards from a list . No two may be the same.
Option 2: You pay X points for a spell book. That spell book allows you to take X-10 points worth of spell cards. The book would not allow spells of a certain type. ie an EF spellbook would not allow Necromantic spells.
Option 3: similar to option 2. You pay x points for a spell book. Some spellbooks are faction specific, some are 'general'. The general spell books will allow factions to get spells normally outside their faction, but cost more and don't have access to the most powerful faction specific spells. The Faction spellbooks cost less and have access to very powerful faction spells, but are limited in scope.
I'd also like to see an option where a mage could buy 1 spell without a spellbook. This would be an expensive 1 time use 'item' but if it's for a special purpose or points are tight.
Speculate away!
I would like to see 1 or 2 Mage Spawn scults in this set to make Summon more useful, especially with the Scroll of Invocation.
Oh, and isn't :fist: the damage type for Titans? That means they are setting up for Conquest! Wooo!
And thus the brilliance of this expansion is made clear. By pouring so much energy and magic into the Atlanteans, half of the Black Powders become stronger. As long as magic is flying around, the BPR just gets stronger because nobody has :mi: like the BPR has :mi:.
Anyway, I'm sure WKs will have some way for spells and/or spell books to effect :mi:. Maybe there can be two clases of spells, Mana and Physical. The Mana spells use raw magical energy to effect it's target, Physical spells change the conditions around the target to effect them. So go roast your dwarves with Fireballs instead of Mana Bolts.
So here is my guess on Spells and Spell Books. Spells are one time use cards that are either blown on one turn (like flinging a Fireball) or have a delayed result and/or a duration (Enchantments or the like). Spell Books do teh same as spells, only the effects are stronger, and they are permanent. You can use a Spell Book repeatedly to the same effect that you could a spell.

Okay, I'm going to push two of my dryads, and push this unique holding the Mountain's Heart... and we're going to cast channel/fireball on your entire army..
This is a great idea, I don't see why they'd call it sorcery though, how about "Mage Knight: The Gathering"
This looks cool. I figure that the new subfactions will be the spell casters- sort of like schools in D&D. Figure one school per faction with maybe EF and AG getting two each. The 20 spell books will be tied to the schools, figure two books per subfaction. 90 spells- I look for some generic spells that all schools can use and some school specific spells as well. I also think that spells will override the Wand attack type. Dwarves may be magically immune but I'm willing to bet that you can still fireball them, that is if they have a fireball spell. This is all speculation, mind you I could be WAY off so please don't take what I posted here seriouslyas to how spells work or what the breakdown is.
thanks,
Da Reapa
The spell books sound very cool in theory, likely great for Dungeons play, but I'm quite sure I'm not thrilled about adding yet another layer of complexity to the regular game, nor about the chase figures. Kudos on two cards per pack though, about time.
Pathis is probably a play on the word Pathos. According to Merriam-Webster, Pathos means an emotion of sympathetic pity.
Also according to Merriam-Webster, Arcana means mysterious knowledge, language, or information accessible only by the initiate.
Taken together it means that this sweet looking little drac female will either heal you or just put you out of your misery. I believe she will prove to be one of the mercenaries.
Magus Alment Lan...
In his previous version (Mage-king Alment Lan) he was a Dungeons Hero. He'll most likely be an Atlantean figure, perhaps a mercenary previous to becoming a Mage-king.
Lady Rowan...
She's named for a flower and appeared as an Elemental LE in Rebellion. The title of Lady hints at an elevation in power and authority. Most likely an Elemental figure with strong magical abilities, but doubtful as a mercenary since that generally goes against the Elemental tree-hugging, holistic type of character.
Oracle of Rokos...
The title of Oracle hints at strong mystical and magical power. May be a non-unique since the name doesn't hint of uniqueness. Therefore, this may suggest that some non-uniques can wield spell books and spells, meaning this would be a new special ability as opposed to an item/relic type of thing. The attire and color combinations of the paint job suggest two possible factions (or a dual-faction) for her: Necropolis and/or Solonavi.
Scholar Maleficius...
Maleficent means working or productive of harm or evil. His name therefore implies a spell-casting bad daddy. His sculpt is reminiscent of a Black Powder Revolutionary. He's likely one of the mercenaries.
Regal Skymage...
Again we have a non-unique that appears to have the potential to wield magic spells. Probably from the Elven Lords faction.
So, of the pictured figures, my take is that four of them are uniques, with two or three of them being the mercenaries.
Regardless, I hope they'll be pre-selling some of these puppies at Gen-Con...
