Sorry for the double post, but this just caught my eye.

Tamahome and Dave (En-Kur) I haven't had the pleasure of meeting but I am sure they are great guys. Also Tamahome has a hot girlfriend so I've heard...so that's a plus too if he comes we see her haha. Anyway...These three guys do DESERVE to be nominated and I think that whichever one does get the "Golden Ticket" will represent VSRealms nicely.

The winners here will take the spots and get smashed at the Pro Tour. Mark my words.
Pity spots is an accurate assessment. Then to deal them out based on votes? Even worse. I agree with Beacon.
Warning level of 2, huh? That lends you a lot of credibility.
On a different note, I nominate En-Kur for this contest thingamajig.
I don't understand all the Haterade(tm) being thrown around here.
So what if this ONE ticket is a popularity vote... big whoop.
So what if they are underqualified and get smashed... big whoop.
That's the whole point of a golden ticket... and actually, if you get nominated from members from VSRealms... it's a pretty good chance that you are NOT underqualified so I doubt the recipient will be gettting smashed.
C'mon... lighten up... this is all for fun and a chance to play with the big boys.
Heck... if the NBA were giving golden tickets out to play in the All-Star game I would apply. I would get my hiney handed to me but hey... BIG WHOOP!
The NBA does give out golden tickets to the All-Star game. It's called letting the fans vote their favorite players in, even if another player may be more deserving statistically. Same thing in baseball.
We're gonna see a ton of chocolate factory jokes, aren't we? :-)
I don't think I'm well enough known here to get one of those, but I hope I do anyway...dunno if there are gonna be anymore PTQs in the Denver area and I can't get to any elsewhere :-(
I think a better comparison would be the NBA giving out a "golden ticket" to play in the NBA Finals, not the all-star game. The All-Star game is meaningless, the Pro Circuit is the highest level of competition for our game. Not that I really care, but if you're gonna make an analogy you might as well make an appropriate one.
I'd think that anyone who makes the pro circuit w/out winning a PCQ (or accomplishing something similiar) is "underqualified". I don't see how being a popular community member would have anything to do w/ being qualified.
Hey Tostito Bandito. I have a warning level 2 for sticking up for myself when someone was posting disparraging comments about me because they were mad they lost to me at a PCQ. I cant control the fact that the moderators of this forum are overzealous, censor everything, and love to hand out warnings. My name is Gabriel Alonso. Ask around. Someone you know has heard of me. If you haven't, Ill make sure I personally introduce myself to you at Gen Con. Then you can talk to me about credibility.
I wonder, "Do I keep my mouth shut, or not?" I have enough stress and drama at work; not sure I want to be involved here. Fire only fuels the flames, after all, and I'm sure tons of the people I would offend would jump all over me like a belated porn star play-date.
When it comes down to it, I nominate Stu. I've met Rian in person. I've seen him work his magic on these forums. He contributes to every spectrum of the site; he has attended numerous PCQs; he cares about other players and does not have to belittle them and make petty threats to try and scare them off.
In every way, Rian deserves the Golden Ticket, and you can bet your effing Pro-Circuit dollar on the fact that if he gets it, he's going to work even harder during that competition. He doesn't need to prove that to anyone, and it isn't his "popularity" that drives the nomination out of me.

I disagree with you here. There are most likely more than a few people who have won PCQs and are less qualified than some of the people we have nominated.
And some of the people we have nominated play the game tons more and have entered more PCQs than many PC Qualifiers. Some of the reasons they haven't qualified were either playing against a better field or bad draws.
I have my doubts that the winner of a 7-man PCQ is more accomplished than a top-8 player in a 120-man PCQ.
Regardless... big whoop. Does it really kill anyone that some people get in with a golden ticket or less experience? If you're good... it won't matter.
I sorta think that someone who wins a "Pro Circuit Qualifier" is sort of by definition qualified to play in the pro circuit. I'm not saying they're better than anyone else, just that they are qualified to play in it. I'm sure there have been some easier PCQs and some more difficult PCQs and whatnot, but that's not really the point.
Additionally I don't think having played in many PCQs makes you more qualified. In fact, one might argue that it shows that you are in fact not qualified to play in the Pro Circuit (assuming you couldn't earn a spot).
Like I said earlier I could really care less. I'd prefer UD not give out these spots as they will go to less deserving people, but whatever. Hopefully it's just a one-time thing and next PC will be only people who have earned an invitation.
I don't know if he is already qualified for the pro circuit or not, but I think you all should seriously consider nominating the member TrippingBillies. Any of you that are members of the Yugioh Judge List in Yahoo Groups know him as one of the Netreps.

So what about the free invites UDE is giving out to top players of other games? How do you feel about that? Does success in other cards games like Magic and LOTR make you a qualified player in Marvel?

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but what is the point of posts like these? I think you people are missing the point of this contest. Each site (Realms and Universe) were given tickets to give away however the site owners see fit. I have been over to Universe. I don't see anyone #####ing about what is basically the same contest over there. When there is a communtiy enviroment, it basically all boils down to who is the most active on the boards, who gives back the most, etc. And yes, it is a popularity vote.
What do you gain by taking the time to log in and complain about this? Who cares if someone that doesn't have the skill to play on the tour gets one of these? They are free slots anyways. I am sure there is no limit to the amount of people that can play at Gencon. No one is losing their slot because someone won it here.
Put yourself in the site owner's shoes. You have these free slots to give away and you want to reward the community for taking the time to spend a bit of their day on the site. And you want to reward those that might actually spend an extra bit of time making it enjoyable for the rest. What's the harm in letting said community pick a person that they believe best represents them? It's not like they are saying pick so and so because he gives back the most. They are saying I'll let you guys decide.
