Stu, it's allways good to hear feedback from liked ideas. (I'm just glad I've finally thought of one)
that would be sick though, wouldn't it? I'm sure there are many player's who'd like to see their own character in a comic.

wow, that is very similar to how the Grand Kai invitationals score used to run were, (except they didn't have sealed).
I think they need something like Friday Night Magic for VS. People come to these tournaments so they can play Magic while only paying a dollar and still get cool promo foils as prizes. All sorts of people who wouldn't show up at a PTQ or a draft show up at FNM. Maybe we could save some of those Magic players.

It's called the hobby league, also I find it hard to believe that people are only charging one dollar for FNM. Or if they are then the prizes must suck.
Hobby League is a lot different than FNM. The month long structure means that people willing to commit more nights a month have an advantage, which isn't good for convincing new players to play.
As far as FNM for a dollar, with 40 players thats $40 split among the top few players in addition to the FNM foils. It goes off weekly like that and isn't the only FNM in town.
We can't get 8 people together to play VS regularly however...
Regionals/states/nationals/city champs would be awesome. The only problem I see with doing those events is that the attendence would be too small to justify running the tournaments. I do not think I have been to a PCQ with more than 30 people. One had 6 people. When I hear about magic PTQs they have way more. Even magic regionals had over 200 people. Thats more than any 10k. The prize structure for a 10k is way better than magic regionals.
I guess what I am trying to say is do anything to help increase the competative player base as a whole. I dont know if this is something that the is in the TO's power. Anything that they can do would be great to up the player base.
Better information about the European 10k's, we have a 10k in May, but still no information of venue (other than it's in England) and know nothing of the format.

Re-activate all those Reserve Demo-Team members. That's the best way to get the game going again. Start sending out Demo sets to us old demo members, give us some "enouragement" and we'll grow this game with the sweat of brows and horseness of our voices!! I remember back in the hayday of Yugi when there were no judges only Demo Team people.....oh my mis-spent youth of three years ago....c'est la vie:ermm:

Also they should do something about all these people and their double posting!!!........Damn it!!
You guys are all saying that people should copy feature X of magic and feature Y of magic, yet the fact is, that if VS is to remain competetive in the market it will have to create a distinctive identity and not simply Magic with superheroes. UDE is not going to beat Magic at it's own game - Magic has already had around 10 plus years to develop that. In addition, no one can say with 100% that VS is a better game then Magic, so trying to bank all your resources on a head on does't seem so smart. Instead, UDE will have to develop something different. In my mind UDE needs to strengthen their grab of the casual fan base. Your competetive/would-be competetive gamers will always play as long as you have a decent prize structure. You need to captivate the casual players if you want to make any bank and to grow the game.
Extended Arts have gone a long way in this. In fact, this is a huge innovation that I believe UDE should continue to pursue. Casual players love extended arts and WotC is learning this, has can be seen through the recent 'extended art' Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind and Electorlyze. UDE should continue to print tournament staple rares as hobby league winner prizes. This will help casual players bulid collections by trading them off, or let them build tier one decks without having to trade for inflated copies of rares. If you go to your local hobby league, I am sure that most of your beginners play GL. This is not because of how cool GL is, but simply because the staple rares for said deck were all more easily to obtain simply because they were EAs.
In addition, how awesome would it be to give stackers out to a two-headed mutant to each side of the head? I mean, that would be super appropriate. You get Hawk, and your buddy gets Dove.
I'm surprised that no one has talked about doing any sort of comic book tie-in. I would love to see more extended arts in comic book form. How about tournaments similar to scenarios from Heroclix or the challenge from Warlord? UDE should more strongly push the connection with the Superman movie. Perhaps an Extended art Superman for those who go to the movie? UDE should actively pursue the grass roots gamers, as most people are attracted to VS because of the super heroes and not because they enjoy avoiding mana screw.
Team tournament are huge in order to draw in the casual level player. The first Magic pre-release me and my friends ever went to was the Mirrodin pre-release. Why? Because this was the first ever team tournament. You simply cannot underestimate how alluring it is for people to play in teams. Despite the fact that they may bomb out and that they are not really playing together, they will leave the tournament with great stories, a great time, and a sense of comraderie and more importantly a stronger passion for VS.
In addition, keep printing cool cards for legacy teams. It sucks that all of the cool newbie teams for VS all suck. Team Superman? Sucks. X-Men? Sucks. Gotham Knights? Sucks. As a newblet I hated hearing something like "Yeah, the Gotham Knights are cool, too bad they suck in tournaments." Something like that is beyond discouraging. The only exception to this rule is the Teen Titans. In addition, UDE needs to stop using good mechanics on obscure charecters. I enjoy playing with good versions of my favorite charecters. In fact, I think this is why Titans is so popular because there are cool recognizable charecters in it that are good - except for Red Star , who should probably be Connor Kent or something. My biggest example of this is Cyclops. This guy is so awesome in the comics, yet I cannot for the life of me find some way to play him because all of his incarnations are way to specialized to be good.
1) Instead of introducing one or two new mechanics every set, go back and visit some older mechanics. The response to the Morlocks team has been very positive, and one of their main themes is that they all have Evasion and many of their characters, plot twists, and locations use this theme to better the team. Maybe instead of a new mechanic in the Teen Titans set, go back and really focus on Leader or Cosmic.
2) I agree with the poster who said create something between Hobby League and PCQ, but make it have a theme that will bring casual players out. For example, one week, have an Avengers vs. Justice League week, where you build two decks (one of each team) and bring them to the store. You then roll; winner picks the deck they prefer, loser picks initiative. Simple as that. It's great for the casual players out there.
