Correction. Journalistic integrity and ethics are important to me as well. Magical female gay unicorns. The color is open to individual taste.
tomolak, you have not been around here for long. It gets more obvious with each post you make.
Off to bump my unicorn. (That sounds dirty.)
Here is the unicorn thread for all those journalists researching the true history of Vs. System:

Stu, you've been around here for far too long. It became obvious after the first 10 minutes I spent on these boards. I think the unicorns have gone to your head.
Originally posted by tomolak That was my first major post, although I occasionally view the forums. Not a huge fan of them. Too much flaming :-)
It keeps making more sense with each pass. Cool.
So you were jumping in, like we were playing Double Dutch. And you thought you had to throw out "suck" and "downright unreadable", since that's how all the cool kids talk.
Metagame is the most frustrating kind of site for me. It has loads of information with almost no organization or way to access it. I want to search the site, browse to previous (archived) articles, see decklists (new and old).
I pretty much just come here or TCG and goto Metagame if something is linked to there. Either that or I use google to find Metagame articles.
Originally posted by tomolak And btw, even though I do have a Journalism degree and published articles, THAT is one of the reasons I don't write. I don't want to deal with the ethical issues, even if I could use the extra money. G-d knows, the Vsuniverse.com weekly contest thing is there for the taking.
Spoken like a true coward.
I may rag on articles from other people, but at least I man up and post my own stuff for people to slam.
But to critique others and then try to claim the moral high ground -because- you don't write? I gotta say, that's choice.
Tell you what, you get up the guts to write a vs article and I'll chip in a buck to buy you a spine.

Crystal. Thanks for the explanation.
I appreciate the gentle ribbing, I really do.
I've been stewing over this issue for quite some time. I've seen it in MTG for many years. I used to read Brainburst and some other MTG strategy sites. But I didn't care enough about MTG to stand up for it. Vs. is different for me, I see it as a better game and definitely a better gaming community than Magic. So I finally vented. Should I have used the word "suck"? No, it was unprofessional. Should I have cut/paste that post into an email to UDE? Probably. Do I still wish to see some of the changes I described implemented for the betterment of the game? Definitely!
I realize most people here don't want to compare Vs. strategy writers to journalists, but that's only because no one has of yet combined the two. If UDE went out and hired a pro investigative journalist, believe me, THAT first article would be a good read.
Originally posted by Avangel I want to search the site, browse to previous (archived) articles, see decklists (new and old).
The archived articles are available by author. When you are inside any one article you can click Archives at the top. Each author's entire portfolio is available with a tab at the bottom of their current list or under their name in an individual article. The only search currently available is for single cards by name. To find decklists you will need to click the Events tab at the top and go into one particular tournament. The tabs are not available on the front page, only if you are in an article or on the main Vs. System page.

Isn't it great when you just randomly read a post in a thread, and it becomes abundantly clear that there's no point in reading the entire thread?
thanks for taking the time to respond. It does help. Although I think the site is still completely illogical. If you know the web developer point them to an excellent book I'm reading called "Don't make me think".
When I see search I think. Site search/card search/article search. I don't expect to goto archives to look for articles and search there.
Decklists should be a link called Decklists. That's what most of us care about!
I find the articles engaging and content excellent on the site. Just have a terrinle time trying to find the stuff I want to read!

1) In-depth, pre-PC analysis articles should be written by people whose income does not hinge on the PC itself. This is the best way to avoid the conflict of interest that several other posters in this thread have referred to.
Who do you think should write these articles? From my viewpoint anyone who would have the knowledge to do so would likely either a. be playing in the PC (or atleast have teammates going to the PC) or b. work for UDE.
It would be interesting to see UDE's take on the environment, but do you really want the designers of the game to shape the play environment? I wouldn't mind I guess, but there's also the factor of these people have better things to be doing (like playtesting the next set so there's not like 4 broken decks coming out of it). You've already objected to group A writing the articles. The other option is to have someone not that qualified (which does happen). There's not really a good answer here. Part of the problem is that the environment for a PC is always very new so people don't know what to expect. If you hadn't playtested much for PC:SF you might have thought that AGL or Glock was the deck to beat and you would've been terribly wrong. If the environment was more defined then it would be easier to get lesser players to grasp it, or get higher calibre players to talk about it.

Again, you are not paying attention. There is a great deal of real journalism going on. The behind the scenes stuff from R&D? Kergy giving us the inside scoop on pro teams and character selection? Hell, they let me expose the real origins of Xallarap:
well mike(wats up its anthony btw happy ####in birthday dude)ur both wrong and right
ur right in the sense that metagame does in fact take up time in which you could have gotten laid or twiddled ur thumbs or whatever you are into.especially that week in review thing.the best way to learn is the same way doug tice and the inked lawyer guy and that amazing individual who made xaviers dream(that wasnt sarcasm, ill give u credit),u should play the stuff,i can think of a million things the pros do that i hate and i can think of a million things they do that i love, but thats me.metagame reaches out to the GENERAL VS player and not all of them.dont like metagame?go to vsrealms, where u can take advice from deuschebags like me who get it right 49% of the time.theres always good reads somewhere, where u get them from is up to u
