I've run him before as a one-of. He's good but, he's vulnerable to Pathetic Attempt like al other cards that target.
Sure he's vulnerable to PA, but he doesn't exhaust to do it or stun himself or anything that keeps him from being a physical 6-drop on the board.
If you got enough characters out to use Magnus' effects to its max... then missing that stun probably isn't going to kill you. I doubt that your board will be smaller than their's.
I actually did try Magnus in a seperate build; while a nice setup, if you're able to recruit Magnus to stun a 4-drop, you could also have an 18/18 Heather Hudson, which even in the best of conditions is generally more appealing.
I see. I guess he's more for the 7 drop Blink 're'enter play shinnanigans. He might get you a 4 on 6 most games but could get you a 7 on 7 with 7 drop Blink.
It's also that curve really isn't the right way to abuse exiles; it's about playing fairly, which is not what this thread is about. This thread is about beating one of the most unfair non-combo decks this game has ever seen. Quicksilver/Fate artifacts proved that R&D is unwilling to ban anything that doesn't lead to an infinite loop (not since the early days where they whacked overload), even if it is bad for the game.... so I imagine Blink and friends will stay legal and unchanged in Modern for the duration that UDE is in charge of the game.
Apoc was no good; turns out he's not at the start of the combat phase, he's at the start of my attack step. So not only did I ended up burned for 42 (3 Marikos + clash), but then he still got to attack (I had dedicated a lot to getting a 5-counter Apoc up by 4). Even if I had the even init I doubt I could've mounted a comeback with my 6 points of endurance (I had shifted in caliban to enable Apoc's effect, and of course he stunned too).
Bleh, back to drawing board again :(. It's worth noting his kill came without even using Panac or proteus, and only 1 Beak (on Blink to get everyone into play); AND he was facing down a turn 2 Calliban suspended (so no draw from Sage). He only drew 1 Mariko; had to search out the other two, 1 Blink, and random host of guys otherwise (Albert, Nocturne, Mystique).

Do people still play her even wen her effect doesn't do anything when Shifted into play? In all honesty I rathe play Elsie-Dee. She has better stats and perhaps she can get me an extra card in the process.
I know this is a thread to defeat the evil doers of SHIFT I was just curious.

While we have yet to hear anything about the next set, let's not forget that modern age only consists of the last four sets. So if the next set does come out then Exiles will lose some of the cards that makes it so consistent: Mobilize, Beatdown, and even Common Bond. When this set first came out I tried making a deck very similar to yours with just the cards from the set. Without the cards mentioned I noticed I was winning more on turns 5 and 6 and only winning on 4 when I got THE god draw. I know that doesn't give many players any comfort considering this tournament coming up but I figured it could be a start.
Another reason this deck won't see much play at the tournament is because of its complexity. I was playing my deck in a casual game with Evildave looking over my shoulder. I was dealing with a bad draw and trying to figure out what to do. Dave gave me some pointers so I asked him if he would like to finish the turn for me. Before I could blink, there was a 13/12 Mystiq on the field. The deck requires lots of practice!
Exiles are actually far more bulletproof than Quicksilver. Even if you cut off Mariko from being a primary threat, you're dealt with facing an army of very large 3-drops, and if absolutly necessary Mystique can grow to obscene proportions. In short, the burn-kill is great, but even without it its a beatdown deck flooding the board with 3-drops instead of 1-drops. At this point it becomes about as good as Kree at beating down; Common Bond serves as its way of making those 3-drops have great "punch". They also have recovery (Beek/Warp Shards) and a way to get rid of large defenders (Warp Shards).
We were actually talking a little last night... forget Modern Age, can they be dealt with in Silver Age? You get a little better life gain; but you still really don't get too much that is going to stop the Modern deck. Quicksilver can race, but as stated, it's a little easier to shut down. Thoughts?
