Expel. You could get "expelled" from town. And then for something less permanent in the game, you could use "Suspended."
Retire. "Larry has been retired." "Larry has been given his gold watch."

Excluded.
Exsanguinated. Creepy, but vampirey.
Neutralized... although that may cause confusion with neutral alignments.
Future endeavored. "We wish Larry well on his future endeavors."

It's an easy source of drama, but it's not strictly necessary IMO. My Fawlty Towers game had people check out of the hotel instead of dying, so the various kill powers and votes just led to people checking out (or quitting their job in the case of the staff) early. I think Magnito's High School Mafia had a similar feeling, with students and faculty members leaving the school instead of being killed.
I am of the mindset that the terminology should fit the theme of the game. One of the mash-ups used the term "Data-Dumped." While it was a stupid term even for the game it was in, it was something different. I think Color Mafia 2, the players were eaten (since they were skittles). Color Mafia 3, the players were dried out (markers).
Violence is throughout the vocabulary of the game. If things aren't being targeted by night kills, why are they being saved by doctors? What's an alternate term for paranoid gun owner? (these are rhetorical questions)
Violence isn't the problem. I enjoy violent television, movies, and video games. The problem is the modern connotations that come with the original word in question.

Agreed.
If we were playing a Quentin Tarantino Movies game, I would absolutely expect people to be “killed”.
Which I think I've been using recently anyway because of my feelings towards the word lynch.

I've been primarily using vote: player for the action itself but in discussion of it, it needs a good term that I don't think "voting" really covers. "test" does that better simply because it's a nonsense word and doesn't have potential to come up in other phrasings like "vote shenanigans" etc.
Just tossing in two cents on that train of thought before I read the rest of the overnight convo.

Lynching is throughout the vocabulary of the game, too. What's an alternate term for when a group of people decide to kill someone on flimsy evidence? That's what we're discussing right now.
Actually, how many mods use different words in day writeups and night writeups? My experience most of the time is either every death is customized, or they all use a similar term: "X has been killed" or "X has been eliminated" or "X has been removed from the game." I don't think we usually distinguish between nightkills and being voted out during the day.
I literally have no time to read through the thread yet (I’ll do it a bit later), but I wanted to share that I’m pretty sure I haven’t used Lynch consciously for a long time because of the connotation of the word and being from a mixed culture family.
I usually just say Vote, but I will happily say Yeet: PlayerX2099 from now on.
What, am I normal or not?
Am I crazier than other patients?
Right, I've done everything right.
So where's the karma, doc? I've lost my patience.

Should be "yeet" not test...

And I'm fine renaming subforum, future threads, and factions as well. Werewolf is fine for the collective, and mods can customize factions names etc as necessary.
