Ah yes. My mistake. I seemed to be a bit corn-fused as the 2010 champ did this exact thing at Origins knowing he already had a spot on Sunday.

Yeah, I wasn't a fan of his being able to participate in such a way.

Don't get me wrong, George seems like a great guy, and I don't think anybody should be denied the right to play HC. But, I think he could have had plenty of fun in BR's w/ cheese & such.

...and hey, if he enters and doesn't make nationals, it gives him a good bunch excuses as to why he entered so many in the first place.....

Will he be allowed to do this at GenCon without invalidating his auto-bye to Sunday?

Nationals was not Worlds. It was a separate event. While part of the prize would have been pretty meaningless to George, if he wanted a shot at being "National Champ" he had that right. I will admit that hearing that his motivation was to specifically make other people's chances at playing at Nationals harder is not what I would want to hear. But this type of thing isn't my call.

On the other hand, Worlds is Worlds. And the grinders and Saturday and Sunday are all one event where to qualify for one event, you need to perform in a certain way in another event. Anyone who wants to play in a grinder is welcome to do so, but they forgo any previously won spots. Now, our Sunday pre-qualifer, George, does not qualify for Saturday, so he cannot play in it.

So if someone wins a grinder and then enters another grinder, thus forgoing their spot, would their spot go to the guy who got second in that grinder or something? Or is that just one less spot that will be filled on Saturday? Or am I missing something else entirely?

I don't get it. My system for running grinders was perfect, but Norm totally ignored me and kept responding to squire instead. Totally unfair...

Im sure George was just being sarcastic about the whole stopping other peoples thing. He seemed pretty chummy with a bunch of the four points guys. Lets also not forget this is the man that said he was going to be the villian of heroclix, challenged groovy to Strip Clix, and set up a high stakes heroclix game right next to WK section :P Im thinking hes just having some fun with us.

Back in the day, Groovy would have taken him up on it.

So lets say 40 people show up on Thursday morning. By this system, I'm telling #33-40 that they should come back in about 2.5 hours before we'll seat them? That seems silly.

And if the answer is "well, seat the first few grinders right away and then go every 20 minutes" I think you'll find that the answer will always turn back to "I've got 8 standing right here right now, why should I make them wait?"

At $24 per seat, I do not genuinely believe that there will be that many people who do nothing but thrash. Not so many that people will be going "there weren't enough grinders and it's all their fault."
