I was just reading the "Finally Got Hulk" thread. Essentially, it is discussing how some people are quite unhappy with the Hulk set vs. people who are trying to defend the set. I know this is an exaggeration, but I'm almost feeling like everything after GSX has been filler until they could come out with Infinity Gauntlet and GG. This past year was their first full production year and they are definitely still trying to find their mojo. It just seems like GSX was a really bold move and sold like hot cakes. CA, SM, and HLK were all pretty bland sets in the grand scheme of things. Now we are getting a major 8 month long event in the Infinity Gauntlet and Galactic Guardians. I know it's way too soon to say, but I'll bet that the Galactic Guardians is the hottest set since GSX and DC 75th by a large margin. It may even surpass GSX.

I'm willing to bet that with the IG events going on it will be the most widely available set to to date. I'm also waiting to see how popular this set will actually be. I think expectations may be too high on this one.

I don't feel like braving general discussion tonight, so I'll just ask you--what is it about the post-GSX sets that you don't like? Or was GSX just so good that it overshadows the others?

I'm completely biased. I'm a huge X-Men and cosmic fan. Other than that, I have no objective information to give a valid argument. I can't really say the re-using of sculpts because that's been pretty par for the course with every set. I can't say sculpt quality because it's been more or less consistent. So for me, GSX and GG shine because they are coincidentally two themes that are exactly my favorite when it comes to comics.
The only set that I could say was lackluster to me would be Superman. By lackluster I mean the characters don't have as much draw for me. It was a set that the dials interested me more than the characters. That is only because I've never delved into Superman much. I still thought it was a good set and I liked the others just as much as GSX.
For me, GSX was the first set I was waiting for since I started playing Heroclix. It finally gave me some of the X-Men that I wanted that were as good as I wanted them to be. Now Galactic Guardians is about to check off my other want for comic book characters to give me the characters I want as good as I want them.

So far they have looked good. I haven't seen anything earth shattering good though. I think that is where the set will falter in the eyes of the fans.
I have come to realize that as far as SR's go character selection seems to have much more to do with the prices than the dials do. I'm sure this hasn't been lost on wizkids either. With Thanos and Gladiator heading up the SR front already I think I'm going to be really crossing my fingers come time to open that case.
Just checking in pre-bed. Came home about half an hour ago, having been out at a friend's place since Friday afternoon, mostly for a series of games -- some of which I don't recall by name. (We player Ticket To Ride - 1910 Edition, Monopoly Deal, Resistance and a couple other games.) My friend's wife and the two other guests are game fiends, and my friend's supportive of his wife's interests, so I went along for the ride.
The three game fiends all pretend to different degrees that "it's just a game" but it's painfully obvious that much self-esteem is tied to any victories they achieve, and so finding the most effective ways of gaming the game is something they take pride in. Keeping myself as distanced as I could from in any way buying into that mindset helped me enjoy what I could of it, but it's entirely too much like work to be preferred leisure activity for me.
For some reason another friend dodged the get-together, making it sound as if he didn't know any plans were solid for it even though I knew the specifics came up more than once on Wednesday. It was especially strange for him to turn down an evening of free food and drink.
Anyway... I'm going to try to catch a few hours of sleep.

My gut instinct is to agree with you, but looking at it objectively, I just don't think the characters in Galactic Guardians will have the mass name recognition that the X-Men do to be as successful.
GG will be popular with existing comic and Clix fans, but I don't see it drawing in new players the way GSX did. I know our venue got no fewer than 3 new players because of the name recognition associated with GSX. Galactic Guardians doesn't really have that mass appeal.
It'll obviously be successful, but I don't see it topping GSX.
