I recently rented Cabin In the Snow, I mean, Dead Snow from the Library.
Whats better than zombies? Nazi Zombies! I've seen this on a couple of top ten lists & its good. I'm not sure if it breaks its own rules which only bothers me slightly.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
If the Zombie Nazis are only after people who steal their treasure, then why were Sara & "The Crazy Old Man" killed?
I also watched Batman:Under the Red Hood. This is really good. Especially in the post-Nolan "everything Batman does has its consequences and Bruce pays for them." My one complaint is only Kevin Conroy should voice Batman/Bruce. Why on earth would you have anyone else? John DiMaggio was OK as Joker. Mark Hamill must have been busy or something.
Melancholia- Saw it finally. What a weird little movie. Basically Melancholia (I think) is a planet headed for Earth and two sisters argue alot with each other. A rather depressing ending but I suppose if a planet is going to ram the Earth, there's not much to assume. You die. The kid at the end was utterly believable and as a father, I don't know what else you do.
Need something saccharin after that one. But I will say that I'm still a Kirsten Dunst fan after it.

I hate when movies break their own rules.
"When the going gets weird, the weird go pro." - Hunter S. Thompson"
"Victim? Victim? Do you think this letter on my chest stands for AMERICA?" - you have been getting insulted by nextwave.

That movie was phenomenal in my books. The only DCAU movie I like better is Wonder Woman.
Yesterday I was home with my sick boy, so I took in two flicks.
The Dictator: Two things I should get out of the way is that I normally don't like Sascha Barton Cohen's movies. They do nothing for me and seem outright dumb at times. Also, I was expecting more "The Ladies Man" than "Spaceballs."
You know what, I actually found it pretty funny. From the opening moment of "In Loving Memory of Kim Jong-Il" you know what you're in for. There's several great gags and one really good running joke that ends with Edward Norton appearing, and Cohen takes the time to basically call the current US a dictatorship, with some accuracy. Overall, I'd give it a 3/5 in judging it on what it is. In terms of "annals of time quality" you're probably looking at 1.5 or 2.
The Raven: The movie takes an interesting look at what might have occurred during the days leading up to Edgar Allen Poe found dying on a park bench. As the actual details are still unknown, it goes with the Jack The Ripper approach as someone is on a killing spree, with each murder inspired by Poe's stories. Once again I liked it, because I didn't know who the killer was until very late in the movie. However, I could not get past John Cusack as Poe. He did a decent job, but half the time I couldn't help but ask myself if it was Poe or emo Cusack during one of the High Fidelity scenes.

I have seen Christina Ricci in a lot of movies of questionable quality, but she usually stands out. Here she fits right in. Her southern accent is not particularly convincing and she seems to forget it completely at times. Tom Berenger gives a decent performance for the two minutes he's on screen. The child actors are horrible. They are overshadowed, though, by the bad camera work and the abysmal lighting.
Aside from all that, it is so weird to see Christina Ricci playing a mother. It made me feel old.
Cabin in the Woods, John Dies at the end, and the Inbetweeners movie.
Cabin was p. good, didn't want to go when it was out because I assumed it was mostly hype, although everyone going nuts over the plot still confuses me. Amy Acker is always a welcome addition.
John was trippy in a good way, and Inbetweeners was just an extended episode of a show I marginally cared for, but because it was British there wasn't many episodes to catch up on.
I just watched Brave. Wasn't particularly impressed. Not a very good offering from Pixar. Sure it wasn't as cloyingly toyetic as Cars, but just not really all that interesting.
Glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. I mean, it had a couple of moments but was overall underwhelming. I put Rise of the Guardians in much the same context.

Christina Ricci as a mother yet again. At least she was up to her usual quality of acting in a production that did not look completely cheap. However, I was sick of Robert Pattinson after about five minutes. And of the overly dramatic music. A little more subtlety would have gone a long way.
Overall very mediocre.
Just watched Seven Psychopaths (written and directed by Martin McDounagh, the same guy who wrote and directed In Bruges - a favorite of mine). This one is a bit more all over the place (felt like it was trying to send a message it wasn't quite sure of) but it did have a similar feel to In Bruges (guess you'd call that the director's style). Some entertaining performances (loved Tom Waits' part) and interesting dialogue but not as good as his previous effort. Worth a view if you liked In Bruges though.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
I'm just mentioning it because I can't wade thru the whole thread, but Tucker and Dale versus Evil is worth a look.Similar to Cabin in the Woods in tone. Saw The Purge too.It was okay.Interesting concept, not the best execution...
