Guilty as charged. I was about the same age as the kids on the show in 1983/84 and shared a lot of the same interests so the nostalgia factor is high.
Missus Spike and I went on a spending binge when we found out that Target was carrying Stranger Things merchandise. We're missing just a few of the Funko Pop! figures and the odd item or two. Need that SDCC-exclusive Steve Harrington figure!
I want Stranger Things Clix now. (That, and foil character cards inserted into Game Trade Magazine to rile the neckbeards... but that's another story.)

We weren't going to let anyone spoil the story for us, hence our disappearance from social media these past few days.
I know there's a Stranger Things discussion thread on the Realms but I'm not interested in talking about the show with anyone on this site outside of this group.
I just ran into an old friend from high school who I have not seen in ages.
She was the hot girl with whom the timing never worked out for dating...the girl you sometimes wonder "What if?" You know?
Well, she looks like she very well may be on meth, so, hey, now I know.
I call that a win for the day.
^ She just passed away from a heroin overdose.
I mean “just” as in she died yesterday, and I am just hearing about it now. I don’t mean that she is here, and it just now happened in my presence, and I am posting about it before calling 911.

The good news is I'm still alive! Sorry, first chance I've had to use that line from Curb.
Catering to the lowest common denominator since Feb 2003.
So who's handing out full-size candy bars for Halloween?
I have them on hand, but I could count on my fingers the total number of trick or treaters we have had in the fifteen years we have lived here.
When my brother was a sales rep for Hershey’s I know that my mom would always give away full and/or king sized stuff. He would literally get palettes of the stuff dropped off to use for samples. There was far to much to even practically use. He would give it away like candy, which it was, of course, but there really isn’t another viable expression here without disparaging Bud’s weekend activities.

Only for those that earn it.
Actually the wife and I decided to not do Halloween cause the little one is only 5 months and the trick or treaters will probably cause disturbance of sleep/nap time. We are unplugging the doorbell too as an extra measure.
Good news, we don't have to buy candy. Bad news, no leftovers.

Yeah but what comics were really popular in 1983-1984? I am pretty sure that is when Chris Claremont took over the Uncanny X-men, but other than that I can't think of anything that would stick out.
Claremont was rocking along on UXM and Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans were also a big title. Still my favorite era of comics.
So I evidently signed up for the full immersion Scare-o-rama version of Stranger Things 2 last night. In addition to staying up late and finishing the whole of season 2, which I posted about on Facebook, the following things occurred which did not mention:
-During episode 8 the 2 brand new kittens decided to have a play fight on the steps to the upstairs. They made a quiet, high-pitched scream sounding battle cry...sounded eerily like a kid crying.
- shortly after separating the scrapping 3-4 month old sibling killers, one of them decided to slink under Quincy's old rocking cow, and damned if it didn't make it rock back and forth very noticeably, while not being visible himself. I had to walk across the room to see what was happening, and for a brief moment was scared ####less as the kitten was hidden under the belly, so it looked like the toy was rocking on its own.
It gets worse.
- I'm sound asleep at 1:18 am...wake up to a blood curdling shrieking from Quincy "Daddy help, daddy I need you, aaaahhhhh!!" Worst screaming, ever. I try to react quickly, but have no idea what I am headed into, but I see the boy's light on and hear him still shrieking. His foot hurt evidently, and that meant he had to scream like bloody murder.
At 4:10am, repeat the above incident. Ended up giving him some children's ibuprofen for pain and the kid slips into blissful sleep. My alarm was set for 5:30, so I lay awake 'til about 5 minutes before my alarm.
My wife has worked 3 straight 14 hour nights, so I was the only awake "adult" at home all weekend and I am ####ing tired.

Yeah, and keep in mind these kids are Jr. High, so they aren't necessarily into the ones that aged well. When I was a kid, the Justice League and the Avengers were big enough that we talked about them at school, and Daredevil, Green Lantern, Detective/Batman, etc were selling 10x what they are selling now. New Teen Titans and X-Men would've led the way though.

Spidey's black costume debuted in 1984 and I remember that was a big deal when I was a kid. That, and Marvel Superheroes Secret Wars. Come to think of it:
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
You kind of got a bit of a nod to the symbiote with Will being possessed by the Mind Flayer/Shadow Monster.
