Let me further elaborate:

The mafia know whether or not Fred is scum. The town does not, and may know more info than you regarding names, alignments, etc separately. By withholding Fred's name, if he IS town, it puts a bigger scummo target on him because he will be perceived as a high value target to them... simultaneously the town will be less likely to use resources to protect Fred as we don't know jack about him other than he MIGHT be high value.

The fact that he appears in the write-up is also interesting, as there are only a handful of characters that have appeared that aren't A) claimed or B) dead

If you want to wait, go for it, but I doubt Fred is going to outright claim.

I'm willing to claim if it will help, but yeah I am very obviously in the write-up, it's not as if there's not a ton of targets for the bad guys already.
