The Lorax. I am a huge fan of the book. The movie was OK. I just can't stand those musical numbers they put in kids movies.
One thing that I did enjoy was that the first 15 minutes was a precursor to that boy visiting the Once-ler, so it was kind of a prequel.
The sucky part was that there was an ending to the movie. The book left it open to what the reader envisions could happen when the truffula seed was given away.

Also saw Monsters University. A light, enjoyable, film. Not one of Pixar's "heavier" pieces, but fun regardless. Worth the price of admission for the short beforehand (The Blue Umbrella) which features some of the most impressive animation I've ever seen (hint: it's all animated, not manipulated live action).
Watched a weird older movie called The Celebration. Great script, but I believe it was part of the Dogme '95 movement and so while there are some moments that are well-shot, most of it looks like it is shot on a VHS camera.
Uncomfortable story. Not too complex, but still engaging.

Ditto. I usually eat up P.T. Anderson stuff (Boogie Nights, for example, is on my short list of utterly perfect movies). This, though...this was more of a character study than a fully-realized story.
Still, the acting was downright spooky good at times.

Definitely agree on the acting in The Master. I just wanted so much more from that story, which I do think had loads of potential and of course it looked great, too. The pieces just couldn't come together.
Also, to take a moment, I just wanted to thank everyone that's participated in this thread since its inception just about 2 years ago. It's almost time for this one to be retired and a new one to spring forth, so I hope you keep on sharing your experiences, folks. I always appreciate reading about the various things people see and then adjusting my Netflix queue appropriately.

Open Window. Alternately heartbreaking and inspiring indie film about a rape and the recovery of its survivors. 3 of 5 stars.
Groundhog Day. Had never seen it until last week. Bill Murray's great and Andie MacDowell is adorable. The geek in me still wants to know why the temporal singularity loop occurs in the first place. 4 of 5 stars.
Notorious. A typical fine mess of a Hitchcock film. Never thought walking down a brightly lit staircase could be so interesting. Very subtle movie. 3.5 of 5 stars.
Kick-Ass is the most EFFED UP comic book movie I've ever seen. Too violent for my taste but technically it works fine. That little girl frightens the poop outta me, kinda. 3.5 of 5 stars.
Scenes of a Sexual Nature. Great title but ends up a somewhat boring English indie film about couples talking about their relationships. Very badly paced but well-acted. Ewan McGregor stands out as the baby-crazy yet philandering half of a gay couple. 2.5 of 5 stars.

Also, saw Lincoln and generally dug it. Not great, IMO, but definitely entertaining and informative.
Most recently I watched an HBO documentary on the McEnroe/Borg (as in Bjorn) rivalry, and it made tennis interesting for me (i.e. a person who couldn't otherwise give two ####s about tennis, or sports for that matter).
