LOL, indeed, on gauntlets thrown, I hope I might be able to participate in the UK Nationals. Just for getting the unoffcial title of being the Britisch Champion. :)
After all you lot a sportmanshiplike bunch and you all have no doubt in your ability's to prevent me from making my ridcilous claim on your title. :p
If allowed and shedule permits, ill join you guys I understand I cant win anything and willing to sign off on that. But it would be good practice.
Hell I might just join for the fun of it, anywayz.
I'm sure you'd be more than welcome. After all, last year's winner was a Yank so why not a (insert suitable derogatory term for a Dutchman). ;)
PS that was intended as a joke. No offense to anyone who feels the term Yank is derogatory and no offense intended to Nederlanders who dislike being called (insert suitable derogatory term for a Dutchman).
Didn't realise you wanted me to go for the full CT scan and Ultrasound to make sure. I was going for what I could see without removing my clothes. Believe you me, the world isn't ready.
Regarding the disputed ROS/SC card. Does the wording 'a unit' mean that only one unit per turn gets the benefit, or does it mean that every unit gets the benefit when hit on that turn?
This is a re-done version of the 2005 US Nats champion army:
2 SC R10s
> Merc Kelswa
> 3 SH TGR
HK Morningstar HQ
2 Highlander Hadurs
4 HK ATV Squad
This is also 450 points.
With the SC and HK units, you have lots of formation options. I considered using the Highlander R10 to make formations with the Hadurs . . . but I basically prefer the SC version.
I really don't know how competitive this is, as I have not played it. It's simply the closest I could get to an army from the past that impressed me, using only post-AoD pieces. Some different choices could be made - like replacing the R10s with HD Bishops, etc. - but I think this army is fairly strong. I also wanted to build something without an SA, just due to the prevalence of those around here.
Tis not a bad army, but it doesn't - nor can it - emulate DragonDawg's winner. DD's army was extremely mobile, with the BR Sprint drop, two merc zahns and four (hated!) Liao ATV's. Bishops could replace the R10s to gain a bit of that speed back. But on the arty front, you just can't replace the SS or SW Arrow IV with any AoD+ arty unit.
You know, the real question everyone should be asking right now and pressing WizKids on is this: Are the 2006 Nationals going to be 450 or 600 point contest? Given the preponderance of 600 point events, I suspect the latter. And I favor 600 points, as it opens up so many more build and strategy options. Unfortunately, as a player that favors mech-based armies, I think the extra points provides the most bang for the non-mech builds.

I agree on the question, however I strongly doubt that 600 points will be Mechless. If there is no cheap command then I for one dont believe there will be a good competitve mechless army maybe in 450 but not in 600. And it depends on what the RotS-SC SA will do for me.
In 600 mechless looks decent on paper, 2 strong TD plus inf. support drops and Arty. Unfortantly the TD in question have issues with some Mechs. Specialy when there is not a good command option to support it. and an Mech + arty support army will slaughter it.
I prefer 600 points myself as I am quiete sure it will make shine Mech Armies.
Try a 600 pointer 'Mechless and unless you are losing, you'll find that 100 points or more of your army barely moves all game. Now roll that into one of your tanks and upgrade it to a 'Mech. Your army now does more and is more flexible than it was before. It is also safer from saturation bombardment.
I always thought you were to strike the face with the gauntlet ? ? ?
and do not worry us yanks are not easy to offend esp if it was in person with that cute little accent you all have ;)
IIRC, it's a matter of how offended/offensive you are. Striking with the gauntlet is more direct/honorable, while throwing it down simultaneously challenges and disrespects teh challengee. I *think* that's right.

All very good points. I personally do not believe in this army, but I wanted to put it out there - it's just about the best you can do in 450 with a Keslwa-drop (at least, based on the best 2005 mechless army that I saw). You may decide to go with HK/HS SA to get the command instead of the Morningstar . . . but this has disadvantages as well.
About the only other place to turn to keep your army mechless is the type of super-infantry drop that Elite favors. I've never tried it myself, but it looks like it has possibilities . . . especially if the SC/ROTS SA is not uber.
I also agree that 600 will probably end the winning ways of the mechless army. Mechless wins in 450 because the Mech lacks support, and being an order-efficient rather than point-efficient piece is far less useful. With significantly more points, but only 1 more order to play with, the more point-effective/less order-effective pieces (like tankdrop) become less attractive.
