not going to read whole thred but Penance is speedball in 1 book don't remember which on he get attacked or something and his power goes off and comments he like pain now or something like that
It should be. I couldn't admit i was an X-men fan for a while because then people might think I actually liked that drek that Chuck tried to pass off as a comic book. If the X-men were real they'd be suing for defamation of character. I have sympathy for any Ironman fans at the moment.
I just don't see the point with playing a game with such a diverse background and flavour as Heroclix and such a massive pool of pieces to choose from to limit yourself to playing dupes or the same character over and over.
There's one problem there though, there's no real explanation on how this clone works. Assuming it's a copy of Thor's body, there's absolutely nothing that would say it even has a brain. In fact, it may not even have a brain. Considering the fact that it has been said that Hank Pym's cybernetics are involved, its brain could be completely mechanical.
Whenever people hear the word "clone" they tend to think exact copy. That isn't how clones work at all. Unless you can recreate a person's memories and life experiences, it's virtually impossible to create a clone out of scratch that is anything more then visually similar to the original source of genetic information.
Now, whether or not this is moral is debatable. Cloning a body for organs or as a means to supply blood is a common theory. Manipulating these clones to be headless or lacking any sort of mental capacities can be viewed as immoral, but are you really taking away the free will of something that never had it to begin with? The question goes all the way down to stem cell research. This genetic material isn't technically a human being, but does the fact that it could be have any sort of bearing on just how far we should tamper with it? I think it's a much more complicated issue then you're giving it credit. Not that I'm giving credit to Civil War for bringing any of this up, but cloning is a very complicated process.
I'm in a rush this morning so I'll add more later. But, I'll respond to this quickly and briefly.
I see what you are saying and totally agree. But-- and there is always a 'but'--
They used a hair strand of someone they knew. It wasn't donated or anonymous DNA material. It was a good friend and a teammate.
I know, myself, that if scientists wanted to use my DNA material to create clones or clone material I would say: "No."
It's not a moral issue with me. It's more an issue of it's my DNA and I choose not to have hundreds (or even one) version of me running around out there or just being kept in a Body Bank awaiting to be cut up for spare parts. I think back to Aliens: Resurrection and the part of the movie where Ripley found all her cloned/replicted bodies in the lab.
That is my major beef with the cloned/copied/replicated Thor. He was never asked if they could do that.
I made the mistake of reading through most of the thread and, as per usual discussions, it roamed wildly into cloning, Reed Richards' intellect, and the Gov't...
I feel that Penance will be revealed to be be Speedball. (AKA the lame Echo/ Ronin idea...)
That being said, who were the other super-villians in the house (that Speedball et al attacked) ? I don't remember exactly who was in the house, or even who the members of the attcking force were - maybe one of them? Or it could be someone new who will be revealed to have been at the school via retcon...
I think back to Aliens: Resurrection and the part of the movie where Ripley found all her cloned/replicted bodies in the lab.
On this note, I think it's an important distinction to make between clones of 'her' and 'other' clones of the now dead ripley. the character we see running around is a clone as well....the real Ripley was long dead. those 'others' were the failed versions....and man that scene creeped me out to no end!

Would an infinite number of Ro-Gans deliver an infinite number of junk shots????

Yes, but only to each other. The rest of us would have nary a worry.
Mmmm. Nary. Gotta love that antiquated adjective.
Now if you will excuse me I have to boldly go split some infinitives.
Which gives me an idea for DC's next crossover: Infinitive Crisis!
coming soon : nu52 Hercules

I'm going to show my age here by saying this:
That quote reminds me of the 1st Edition AD&D (the only true and good version of AD&D) Magic-User spell: Clone [or whatever its real name is].
When cloned the clone will have this obsessive compulsion to seek out the original body and kill it. It has to do with it having an obsession with being the only version of the character.

but if you were cloned a lot you'd finally get enough pull to get Clarmont back on X-men and Peter David on Hulk.

Tony cloning Thor isn't totally out of character and I almost expect him to have clones of other heroes as well. He is an ###hole and his suit almost dampened spiderman's spider sense permanently. This is the FRIEND that people should trust?? Hardly. Tony lives for setting people up learning everyones strenghts and weaknesses. I can't wait for Hulk to come back and destroy his possible clone and knock tony down a couple of pegs. I find it funny how all their archenemies have finally twisted the minds of Mr.Fantastic, Ironman, and even Xavier.
Man, you guys are going about this all wrong. Speedball is too obvious. Penance is obviouly a character making up for is past misdeeds. You'd also never expect to see them in a nothing book like Thunderbolts (their opinion, not mine). And they have pain related powers. He was also a 'crazy idea' of Quesada's, somethig Ellis said was barely acceptable for a kid's book (kids still read comics?). And finally, it has to be someone who has been out of the limelight for a while, someone you occasionally wonder 'where are they now?' type deal.
Dudes...
Penance is...
Bill Jemas.
tb; Marville = pain related powers, the reading of it
Retired, as per WK's rotation and judiciary replacement decisions. Talk about metaception.
but if you were cloned a lot you'd finally get enough pull to get Claremont back on X-men and Peter David on Hulk.
There is that about Claremont.
RE: PAD--
Peter David left the Hulk the second time around simply because he already had too much on his proverbial plate and had to cut the book from his writing pad. I confirmed this straight from his mouth at WWT back in 2005. He did state that if Fallen Angel falls flat and gets cancelled he would like to come back and write the Hulk again.
