But I don't think that's what he's saying. It's writing 101...show, don't tell. Characters talking about what's happening is poor storytelling.
Depends on the story being told. I was ordered to do dialogue heavy writing while earning my degree because sometimes the best way we find/discover character is what they say, how they say it, and THEN what they do.
In large crossover comics its necessarry to help showcase characters and point out things in such a mess. A little reading never hurt anyone.
My biggest beef with Final Crisis is it's the same story he did in JLA a few years back, Rock of Ages. Darksied wins, couple of guys go into the future and oh no! things are way bad, what do we do!?!?!?
hey Morrison, I used to love your writing, but man, here's a quarter, buy some creativity.
Contrary to popular belief, I do know what I'm doing

I'd hang on to that quarter if I were you, There are still 4 issues of Final Crisis to go. I secretly suspect that Green Arrow and the Atom aren't going to save the day this time. If I'm wrong, I'll pay the quarter.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
Actually, Doc D, DC Comics are mostly quite amazing.
The problem is, I agree with you about Countdown and Trinity. I did indeed drop Countdown for that very reason. Trinity, I can't even get my girlfriend to read it. And I have her hooked on Green Arrow/Black Canary and all Green Lantern and Batman titles.
Final Crisis has been good so far in my opinion.
DC has just GOT to drop the weekly titles. All the creative teams have time to do is make the characters talk. Weekly is too frequent. Their monthly stuff is off the hook, though.

I am finding the side issues for Final Crisis (Requiem, Rogues Revenge) more entertaining to read than the actual FC. I suspect that FC will read better as a trade.

Yeah, good point. Rogues Revenge is VERY good. And they make for an exceptionally fun Clix team, too!

That's kind of funny to me. Why does the story have to be a mess? Write better. Not all crossovers have to be a convuluted mess.
Inheriently, he wishes to write about a world-spanning event. He WANTS to have a lot of characters. So he's using his writing ability to try and get a lot of story across through dialogue, so we do not have to spend entire issues on one group, thus turning it into a 15-part crossover from heck.
Really, who here has read the first Crisis? People talk that up, but the thing's a huge mess that took me forever to figure out.
When it comes to complaints about too much dialogue or "show, don't tell" in Final Crisis, people seem to be quick to forget that Crisis on Infinite Earths, despite being well-loved, was loaded with expository dialogue. Just about every time the series introduced a character (and with the entire cast of the DCU there were a lot of them) another character would remark something along the lines of "I recognize those two! It's Hourman and Wildcat! They're part of the JSA on Earth-2!" Meanwhile you have the Monitor, Anti-Monitor, and others constantly explaining their current plots to save/destroy the multiverse.
As for another common complaint, the mysteries and secrets of FC not being revealed right away, how did people deal with reading CoIE twenty years ago and seeing the Flash continually appear in front of others in a state of death with warnings about how everything is doomed? The mystery behind that certainly wasn't revealed until well into the series.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that there isn't really much point in rendering a final judgement on FC when the series isn't even half way through. If you want to stop reading it and remove it from your pulls list that's cool, no one should hold that against you. Just don't go calling it a steaming pile of garbage until all the pieces have been placed on the board.
