On the plus side, I'd be willing to bet that the SRs #61-64 were actually intended to be the chase figs for this set. So while they may not have the official chase rarity they might still have the sought after 'game breaker' design.
From what I read about the 61-64 in the thread, the cards kept as print as if they was Chase. They should be still a high want SR because character and game breaker design.
Yea, Imagine that everybody could have Angelina Jolie. That would be so bad.
It would certainly suck for her. Heroclix is a very capitalism driven game - yes, as are all products - but the rarity of chases adds a nice mix to playing. Does anyone really want to play against a Sinestro Corps Bats or Susan Richards every ither game?
Anyway we seem to have the chases in this set, but just a different form, i.e. #s61-64. And as I said before Wizkids/Neca is trying to find the right way to make players happy and have rare figures. Every set since Hot has had a different/new way of dealing with chases.
Reading this thread has both saddened me, and excited me. I have compiled some things to ease my frustration.
Agreeing here. Old chase pieces in "action packs" are a horrible idea. I played Yu-Gi-Oh and when the Ultra or Super Rare cards were commons in new starter decks, I quit.
Once again, agree 100% totally here. I, for one, hate seeing the same abusive piece over and over again. Also, knowing that anything I can pull and play, my opponent can also.
Oh, and before you rip on me, I have already heard mass hysteria over Nightcrawler and his "borken" dial. Let Oots Batman be a SR and WoS Nightcrawler be a chase, and we would be happy because not everyone would have one, but they would be an awesome piece. Example is Throg, awesome, but a chase, and to me, underpointed.
I, too am sad for no chases. Now everyone and their mother will have a Cosmic Spidey, Groot, and so on and so forth. The ebay set route is the way to go. Oh, and you LCBS supporters out there, guess what? A lot of case cancellations and online set buying. You dislike chases for the "secondary market value"? Well, now more ebay sets are bought and LCBS's suffer
Nope. One brick or case, then buy rest online or trade.
yup. agreed, see above
Yeah because I love the idea of my common being as easy to get as a SR. They have rarities for a reason. Why do you think you get 2 commons (or 3), 2 uncommons (or 1) and a R or SR? Now every piece is equal in respects to distibution.
I honestly think a "chase" is the route to go. It guarantees a chase in every case purchase, but still allows for the "lottery" type players to buy a random booster. Also, keeps the figure slightly more rare than the SR/
You should realize that weather you buy a case or get the set off ebay that Wizkids doesn't care. They had to buy a case or two to get that set for you. Also if there are no chases to help suppliment the cost of the case for the ebay sellers, plus there are four more SR figs. You can expect the prices to go up a good deal.
However I dont disagree that even with the increased price (say 300$$) it wont still be worth the ebay route. But either way your moneys till goes back to Wizkids.
Chances are this is just a test, they realised that the set is bad ### and it will sell a ton either way. So they could do this expiriment without risking too much.
And once the data is back we can find if this becomes the norm or the rarity.
At least that's my opinion.
Chases means a lot of extra product just sitting around at the venue causing the venues to buy less next go round. After you get the set no reason to buy anymore boosters other then more generics or trade fodder *shrugs*
16 SRs = needing to buy more boosters to complete the set.

I am very excited to see another way that New Wizkids is willing to think outside the box by not having chases this set. This is another example of why I think New Wizkids has long term potential.
I don't like the 1:40 or 1:100 ratio previous chases have had. I would prefer if chases needed to exist that they be 4+ figures with a 1:20 ratio (1 guaranteed per case).
I really like how they fought to honor the last World Champ. I think the variant idea is a great way to have a pseudo chase figure.
If a figure is so powerful I don't want to see everyone I play against using it, making it a chase isn't the right way to fix the problem.
It's okay man. It's not your fault. No, really it's not your fault man.
I've only ever pulled one chase, and that wasn't until HoT, but I'd still want there to be chases in every set.
You're good. But I'm magic!

The problem is that a lot of new players come from the "race generation" they want to define their worth by the "skill" they posses in playing a game of toy soldiers.
I hate chases and am glad to see them gone gone gone.
Good riddance!!
Think that while there are more SR's and that they may be more challenging to collect, you're not going to have to shell out $100 a pop for them.
No chases hurts the secondary market? Well, cry me a river.

I do honestly think this will hurt sales. I know I will not be NEARLY as tempted to pick up boosters in stores, for the simple reason that the SRs will probably make much more sense to pick up on the secondary market. The only reason I bought BatB boosters was the hope that I'd pull a Black Lantern - $10 is considerably less than $115 for Kal-L, a difference enough to warrant the considerable chance that I'd pull NOTHING of use from that booster. I will still probably buy a brick of this set, maybe even a case, but I will certainly eBay a MUCH higher percentage of this set than I would have had there been even 2 chases. It remains to see how this will affect sales, but it can only hurt them IMO.
I actually think sales will be fine.
Most players will probably now see the whole set as more of a reachable goal. I know many on the pro-chase side liked the "lottery ticket" feel of chases in boosters, but honestly, lottery tickets are for suckers. If we REALLY want the joy of buying lottery tickets, they're still available for most of us...just walk into the local convenience store and they're probably availabe in some fashion, as most governments have realized that their budgets can be padded if they offer a "stupid tax".
However, lottery tickets really have no place in a miniatures battle game. Different rarities is okay, as they actually serve to make the individual figures (particularly at the lower rarities) more accessible than they would be if these pre-painted figures were sold without rarity...the blind booster model allows the company to sell on volume and drives down the individual price of the more common miniatures. But lottery tickets give a game advantage to those with more disposable income, which hurts the balance of the playing field.
More accessible miniatures should encourage people to buy MORE, not less. I know many folks will buy fewer boosters because of the lost lottery feel, but that should be balanced by the rest of us, who will now actually attempt to collect all 64 figures in the set. I never bothered to try to collect all of any set with chases. I actually HAVE many of the chases (in fact I have or have access to all the "broken" ones, so the uneven playing field I talk about above isn't a personal tale of woe), but chases stopped me from being a completionist, which is what I was before Supernoa. Chases actually caused me to buy LESS from a set.
Now I have 4 more SRs to collect. That means I'll either be buying more boosters or buying more rare singles online (which means that someone ELSE will be buying more boosters for me and selling me the figure I want). In fact if the generics were all the kind for which I'd want multiples, I'd say this would be the perfect set for sales (unfortunately I have no desire for an army of nurses or researchers...thank goodness the police are in there to encourage more low-rarity desire).

That the 61-64 figures were originally chases has been confirmed by Justin in this very thread: "You are correct - We changed our minds during development and pushed the "chase figures" into the SR slots. Each of the 16 SRs should be equally distributed throughout the print run." As far as their game-breaking nature, I guess time will tell. I've only seen hints at one of their dials (Cosmic Spidey), and he DOES seem interesting, if expensive.
As for "crybabies"...well, I guess I could say the same about the pro-chase folks who are whining about the lack of them in this set. Many of us actually took up this game when there WERE NO chase figures. I guess I could say those of you who prefer a more difficult hobby could go find one. But the "crybaby" and "simpler" talk is all just an oversimplification (and it's just as much a whine as many of us on the anti-chase camp have given for any set WITH chases). It's not as if the different rarities are going away...in fact there are MORE SRs now, which is the highest non-chase rarity, as well as one figure for completionists to "chase" in the alternate version Nightcrawler.
At the end of the day it's an experiment. I had resigned myself to chases in every set prior to this news. Maybe they'll be back in the next set and I'll have to go back to cherry-picking. But with WoS, at least I can enjoy one set where I feel like I can complete the thing without taking food out of my daughter's mouth. So all you pro-chase folks can go ahead and whine and rant about how I just don't understand how this game works and I should get an easier hobby, but I'm going to smile and enjoy the heck out of Web of Spider-Man!
