When the smoke has cleared and the dust has settled, there will be one man breathing Dragon fire and snorting Goat breath, with the cats wewing and dogs mooing, coming out from behind closed doors with the Art of War in hand, pages cindered from blazen touch........................................................RED DRAGON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahaha you gotta back a point with something more substantial. It might seem childish to bring academic backing into such a trivial conversation but at the same time it's childish to begin a thread with serious intentions, only to decide not to put in an earnest effort in testing your ideals.
True True, but man this thread has gotten so out of hand, it's late, I can't wait to read Reddragon's next post, I'm just a bit loopy right now, dude. But hey, it's all about fun right?!
Boy, I sure have pissed off a lot of people lately on the interwebs. Sorry to all.
What about calling them "Papillomas?"

I can relate in that I play someone who plays ultra conservatively(turtle), never purchases new figures, and uses god knows how many Feats he has to in order to win. It's annoying on every level but at the end of the day it's a game that we are all supposed to be having fun playing. If you get sick of playing that particular player then take a break playing with him or altogether for a while and come back to it with a fresh perspective.
On another note, if you know how he plays then you can more easily crush them as you'll be able to count on their routine strategy.
Yeah the game we played was 1200 pts. I just so happened to have Kid Zoom handy so I played him. His team was 2x300 Superman and 3x200 Supergirl. That really pissed him off!

these are words. my point has been made. while your his been beaten into name calling & mud slinging. maybe this explains why you aren't that good of a heroclix's player. but as i said before reading could help you with this.
sorry i'll dumb it down for you again. instead of calling people names like competitive, & crazy. spend a little more time reading. & get your game up. & stop asking for everyone to come DOWN on your level. get on my levei. you could never ever get on my level... & that is a song by lil scrappy & lil john

This is a load of GARBAGE. I've payed games where at the end I've still had a good time, even though I've lost. I've seen other GOOD players do the same.
You're saying you hate me. Because I really don't care if I win or not. Well, I would hate to lose to you, because apparently you'd be a yutz about it. I don't want to be on your team. In fact, if you come to Utah, please don't come to either of my venues. I'll have you out the door before the first dice are rolled.
This may be shocking but there is more important things in life then heroclix. I find the people who are ultra competitive and poor sports/whiners are generally people who use the game to overcompensate for other things they are lacking in life and are usually young/immature.
If your playing at home then why invite this individual in the first place? Otherwise the best you can do is set the rules/make scenarios that discourage cheese...
I have been to a few venues and tabletop gamers seem to be a different breed they are ultra sensitive and there seems to be mentality that whatever the other person is playing is broken meanwhile them using bencrawler is just for fun and perfectly acceptable. There is definately a lack of certain social skills with some people who play heroclix so its no wonder problems like this are common.
Personally, I don't think you have any right to tell him how to play or shape him in a different way how to play. This is coming from someone who, while good at the game, tries to stay away from cheese and build creative teams that can win rather than just going with the tried and true.
I make this note because I'm not defending him because I'm like him, just because I think everyone has their own style of play and they should be entitled to it. I think if he alienates players from wanting to play against him, then that is his own problem and he will have to find a way to deal with it, but because he wants to not because he's being forced to change how he wants to play.
I dislike uber competitive power gamers as much as the next person, but I'd rather just beat them (and the victory is oh so much sweeter against these types) than force them to change the way they want to play. I think if enough people don't enjoy playing against him, and they're honest and don't try to hide it - he will probably pick up on it. Whether he will change or not depends on the person though. Really though, at the end of the day he has just as much right to bring Ms. Skrullvel, Nightcrawler, and Bullseye as someone else has to bring the Great Lakes Avengers.
Those last couple of paragraphs are of course in regards to his playstyle and figure selection choice. If you're just referring to someone's general attitude and competitive nature (and not specifically referring to the pieces they play) then I don't really know what you would do in that situation. I can't think of anything other than just trying to tolerate it. If it's just who they are, there's really no quick solution to changing them - it seems like it would be more of a process than an instant solution.
Forum Team Building Contest #2 and #3 Winner, & runner up for #1 and #4.
i honestly play to win. i use cheesy teams/ theme teams. other people at the tounaments play cheesy teams as well, even more cheesy than my team, im ok with that. if im up against a cheesy team i use all the knowledge i know about heroclix to try beating that team but i i do have fun at the same time time. it not like its life or death if someone loses. if i lose a match i dont rant and rave, i just say good game and shake their hand.
some people are hyper competitive. i have a good friend that is like this. we were trying to teach some folks how to play and he brings an uber cheese golden age (figs these newbies can't hope to easily acquire team).
next match i swapped out my team and map for one that neutered his.
enforce scenarios that encourage team building and varied gameplay and not cookie cutter cheesy teams like 'nightron' or 'lamp'.
house rule that winning player can't play any of the same figures 2 weeks in a row.
To the OP, I have dealt with this type of person before. The way I dealt with it was make a crazy strong team and destroy him. Then when he is complaining about the loss tell him to suck it up and play better.
Sometimes the best thing to do is to do as that old adage suggests:
Be humble in victory, gracious in defeat.
... and be so regardless of who you're playing against. In the end, players like the OP is talking about will always be a jackass, but you'll always gain some respect.
