I just finished Ready Player One by Earnest Cline. It is pretty good. Best book I think I have read in a few years.
It has a little bit of everything.
From back of book below.
Anyone else read it? Any other opinions on it.
Are you serious? That's creepy weird. I just finished it this morning before I went to work. I got my copy in a loot box.
My thoughts:
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
I thought the story was interesting, even though I knew where it was going I liked the journey to get there. I felt the constant barrage of 80's references was too much. I get that's the theme and all, but not every other sentence needs to reference some 80's pop culture. It reminded me of the Piers Anthony Xanth novels - mature topics treated in an adolescent manner. For all of these negatives, I will say that I had trouble putting it down and made a point to make time to read it.
Having your company bought out is pretty stupid...
My 401k had to transfer, and apparently - in 20 ####ing 15 - they still have to cut a check and mail it to the other company. So my life's savings have vanished as of the 18th, and are in the mail somewhere!!
To make matters worse I have a lone out against it so if my moneys don't resurface correctly the IRS is going to destroy me...
I have a trust but I don't understand it, they take money out as a fee and nothing is going in.

Oh man... you're in my territory now. From 03' to 05' I worked in a small , now disbanded agency. I left that agency to go to a larger MGA and was there from 05 to 07. That MGA sucked (and since was bought out) and I went to work for JPMorgan.
Now from 03' to 05', my agency principal was putting money into a 401K in my name unbeknownst to me. That agency was shut down in 2005 just after I left. The agency 401K account had to be shut down. However I wasn't notified of this until late in 07 when I was switching from the MGA to JPMorgan. So I stalled the money transference from late 07 to early 08 when I secured with the JPMorgan managed 401K. The goal was to move that agency money into the JPMorgan coffers. That rollover took FIVE YEARS. It took FIVE YEARS for my old agency to correctly complete his portion of the rollover paperwork and disperse the funds and then over the course of FIVE YEARS, the paperwork was completed incorrectly and so when JPMorgan recieved that incorrect money they had to physically mail me the check. THREE times the check disappeared in the issuance/mailing and the money was never received by me. Then I had to wait months for the check to be reissued and relost. It wasn't until early 2013 when the whole mess was straightened out.
So yeah... sit back and enjoy not knowing where your money is for years.

Is there a talking gorilla in it? That's the only way I read anything these days.
